MITRE ATT&CK
2 techniques across 2 tactics: Initial Access, Persistence The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | The attacker must be able to log into the baserCMS admin panel; exploitation targets the list and detail actions under the Admin and Api/Admin prefixes, triggered by supplying ORM-structure query parameters (contain, conditions, fields, finder, order) that the admin controllers pass directly into the ORM via array_merge, letting request values override defaults and reach the EagerLoader. The primary limiting factor is the authentication requirement (PR:L) - an admin-panel account is needed - which confines exposure to deployments with multiple or semi-trusted admin users or to credential-compromise scenarios. Critically, the documented hardening of setting USE_CORE_ADMIN_API to false does NOT prevent exploitation, because an authenticated browser session still reaches these paths; the earlier 5.3.1/5.4.1 public-page and public-API fixes also did not cover these administrative paths. The only complete fix stated by the vendor is upgrading to 5.3.2 or 5.4.2; the only workaround given is restricting admin accounts to trusted users. |
| Impact | This is a genuine near-term priority for any organization actually running baserCMS, though its blast radius is limited by the product's niche footprint and by an authentication prerequisite. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N, 8.8) is internally consistent with the description: exploitation is network-reachable, low-complexity, requires no user interaction, but does require privileges (PR:L) because the attacker must first authenticate to the admin panel. The CIA triad is fully High - reading password hashes from the users table (C:H) and executing arbitrary SQL that can modify or destroy data (I:H/A:H) - which is credible for a raw SQL injection via ORM options (CWE-89). No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no PoC/exploit reference were supplied, so there is no evidence of active exploitation or public weaponization; the only external urgency signal is the vuln.today 'this_week' decision label, which aligns with a patched-but-serious authenticated flaw rather than an emergency. The main nuance to flag: PR:L understates the trust barrier in practice - admin-panel access is itself a meaningful gate, so real risk concentrates on multi-user admin deployments and any environment where admin credentials could be phished, reused, or held by semi-trusted operators. A notable confirmed subtlety is that the common hardening step USE_CORE_ADMIN_API=false does NOT mitigate this, since an authenticated browser session still reaches the vulnerable admin paths. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who holds or obtains any baserCMS admin-panel login (e.g., a low-privilege operator account, or stolen/reused credentials) issues a list or detail request to an Admin or Api/Admin endpoint with crafted query parameters such as contain[Users][conditions][] or order, embedding SQL fragments that the ORM passes straight into WHERE/SELECT/ORDER BY clauses. They use a subquery to exfiltrate password hashes from the users table, then crack or reuse them to escalate to higher-privileged accounts. No public exploit code is referenced, but the vendor advisory and patch commit describe the exact injectable parameters and vulnerable paths, materially lowering the effort to reproduce. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 23, 2026
SQL injection in baserCMS 5.0.0 through 5.3.1 and 5.4.0 through 5.4.1 allows a user who can log into the admin panel to execute arbitrary SQL against the application database - including reading password hashes from the users table - by embedding SQL fragments in query parameters such as contain, conditions, fields, finder and order that the list and detail actions pass straight into the ORM. The earlier 5.3.1 and 5.4.1 fixes addressed only public pages and the public API, and setting USE_CORE_ADMIN_API to false does not block the authenticated browser path to the Admin and Api/Admin endpoints. Scoring is 8.8 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H) with CWE-89; exposure is gated by the admin-panel authentication requirement (PR:L), and no public exploit identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade to baserCMS 5.3.2 (for the 5.0.x line) or 5.4.2 (for the 5.4.x line); the advisory is at https://github.com/baserproject/basercms/security/advisories/GHSA-2w6g-wp3r-26m3, the releases at https://github.com/baserproject/basercms/releases/tag/5.3.2 and https://github.com/baserproject/basercms/releases/tag/5.4.2, and the fixing commit at https://github.com/baserproject/basercms/commit/344de2aa975eda6d85dc1fa4647ba094caf8dcb6. Do not treat 5.3.1 or 5.4.1 as sufficient: those releases fixed only the public pages and public API, and the administrative paths remain vulnerable. The vendor's stated workaround until upgrading is to restrict admin panel accounts to trusted users, which reduces the set of principals who can reach the vulnerable list and detail actions; note that setting USE_CORE_ADMIN_API to false (the default) does not prevent access from an authenticated browser session and is not a mitigation for this issue. The vendor's position is that upgrading is the complete fix; no additional compensating control beyond limiting admin accounts is given in the advisory.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The flaw is a CWE-89 SQL injection arising from how baserCMS controllers hand request data to the CakePHP ORM. The list and detail actions under the Admin prefix and the Api/Admin prefix forward request query parameters directly to service-layer getIndex()/get() calls, and those services merge the request values over their defaults with array_merge([default contain], $queryParams) - so request-supplied keys win. Supplying ORM internal structure keys such as contain[Assoc][conditions][], contain[Assoc][fields][], finder or order routes attacker input through the EagerLoader into the WHERE, SELECT and ORDER BY clauses of generated SQL; the vendor notes that order is particularly exposed because some services pass it as a plain string into orderBy(). The commit at 344de2aa975eda6d85dc1fa4647ba094caf8dcb6 fixes this centrally in AppController::beforeFilter by adding removeOrmStructureFromRequest(), which strips ORM structure keys from query params for all controllers except those under the public Api prefix, and by normalising amp;-prefixed keys before stripping so that the removal cannot be bypassed. The same root cause previously produced GHSA-ch8f-q957-r9xm, GHSA-2ghw-gwvv-mv56, GHSA-v9g2-xmwr-23vc and GHSA-636g-rgj6-542v, whose fixes in 5.3.1/5.4.1 covered public pages and the public API only, leaving the administrative paths reachable. Affected CPE: cpe:2.3:a:baserproject:basercms.

2DescriptionCVE.org
baserCMS is a website development framework. In versions 5.0.0 before 5.3.2 and 5.4.0 before 5.4.2, list and detail actions in the Admin and Api/Admin prefixes pass request query parameters, including contain, conditions, fields, finder, and order, directly to the ORM as options. A user able to log into the admin panel can embed SQL fragments in those options to execute arbitrary SQL against the application's database, including reading password hashes from the users table. Public-page and public-API fixes released in 5.3.1 and 5.4.1 did not protect these administrative paths. Setting USE_CORE_ADMIN_API to false does not prevent access through an authenticated browser session. This issue has been patched in versions 5.3.2 and 5.4.2.

Executive ViewAI
CVE-2026-114621 is a high-severity SQL injection in baserCMS versions 5.0.0-5.3.1 and 5.4.0-5.4.1 that allows authenticated administrators to execute arbitrary SQL and read password hashes. This means any compromise of an admin account could lead to full database disclosure and further system compromise. Leadership should prioritize patching because this affects the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive data and could enable broader attacks on the organization.
