MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Requires (1) the Self-Service Portal feature to be enabled/configured on OCO-Server (documented in Self-Service.md), (2) a valid Self-Service Portal account whose role grants permission to create job containers AND 'read' visibility on the target computer and package, and (3) OCO-Server at a version prior to 1.2.3. No 'deploy' permission on the target resources is needed - that is precisely the control that fails open. Limiting factors that reduce real-world risk: the attacker must hold an authenticated low-privilege portal account (not anonymous/unauthenticated), and must have at least 'read' visibility on the targeted computer/package because getMyComputer()/getMyPackage() still throw without read rights; targets are selected via trivially enumerable sequential computer_package.id integers. Only the uninstall path is affected - the install (deploySelfService) path fails closed and is not exploitable. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but moderate-priority issue, best characterized as an authenticated authorization bypass rather than a high-urgency internet-facing threat. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N = 6.5 Medium) is internally consistent with the mechanism: network-reachable, low attacker complexity, but requiring a valid low-privilege Self-Service Portal account (PR:L) and no confidentiality impact (C:N), with the severity driven entirely by high integrity impact (I:H) from unauthorized software removal. No EPSS score and no CISA KEV entry were supplied in the input, so widespread or automated exploitation cannot be inferred; the vuln.today decision label is 'this_month', which signals a scheduled-remediation rather than an emergency/act_now posture. Against that, the vendor GHSA advisory includes a fully reproducible, independently DB-verified proof-of-concept (Docker + MariaDB, real schema, seed scripts, attack transcript), which raises practical exploitability for anyone who already holds a portal account. Net: real and fixable, with confirmed working PoC and clear integrity impact, but gated behind authenticated low-privilege access to a niche product - prioritize patching within a normal cycle, not as a fire drill. Missing signals (EPSS, KEV, SSVC automatable/technical-impact fields) should be noted rather than assumed benign. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A low-privilege Self-Service Portal user - holding only 'read' visibility on a shared software catalog plus job-container create rights, but no 'deploy' permission - enumerates the small sequential computer_package.id values and submits a crafted uninstall request to self-service/ajax-handler/job-containers.php. Because the uninstall path fails open (rejected IDs are not removed from the list and the downstream CoreLogic is constructed with a null SystemUser that short-circuits all permission checks), the server queues software-removal jobs on other users' or departments' computers. A detailed, reproducible PoC (full Docker reproduction with DB verification) is published in the vendor GHSA advisory; given AV:N and AC:L, exploitation is a straightforward HTTP request once the attacker has any valid portal account. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 22, 2026
An authorization bypass in the OCO-Server Self-Service Portal (all releases prior to 1.2.3 with the feature enabled) lets an authenticated low-privileged portal user queue a software-uninstall job against computers and packages for which their role holds only read visibility and no deploy permission. The uninstall handler's permission-check loop never removes rejected assignment IDs before passing the original list to CoreLogic::uninstall(), and that CoreLogic instance is built with a null SystemUser so every internal checkPermission() call returns true unconditionally - the sibling install path fails closed and is not exploitable. Impact is integrity-only (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N, 6.5): a portal account can disrupt installed software on machines belonging to other users or departments by enumerating sequential computer_package.id values, provided it can already read the target resources. No CISA KEV listing or active-exploitation reporting is associated with this CVE, and vulnerability-priority scoring places it in the this_month band; a detailed public PoC reproduction accompanies the upstream advisory; it is not verified as working exploit code.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: OCO-Server 1.2.3, which changes the two METHOD_DEPLOY checks in uninstallSelfService() so they throw instead of silently continuing, mirroring the fail-closed pattern already used by deploySelfService(); the fix is visible in commit a0b3b6d2c22d01b196c22a9aa0e225429dbf09c8. Upgrade to 1.2.3 or later (release page https://github.com/schorschii/OCO-Server/releases/tag/v1.2.3, advisory https://github.com/schorschii/OCO-Server/security/advisories/GHSA-34mv-3gjp-gf53) and, if the code was customised, ensure the patched call sites are carried over and that no HTTP-reachable path instantiates the core CoreLogic with a null SystemUser. Because exploitation still requires read visibility on the target computer and package, tightening Self-Service role scoping so browse rights cover only the computers and packages a role genuinely needs reduces exposure until the upgrade is applied - at the cost of narrowing the shared software catalog self-service users can browse. Disabling the Self-Service Portal removes the attack surface entirely but also removes legitimate user-initiated installs and uninstalls. The upstream advisory additionally recommends a regression test asserting that uninstallSelfService() rejects or drops any installation ID the acting domain user lacks deploy permission for. No vendor-released alternative fix exists for versions before 1.2.3.

Technical ContextAI · show details
OCO-Server is a self-hosted PHP endpoint management application (computer inventory, software deployment, MDM) that ships its own permission model via SelfService\PermissionManager, with verb-scoped methods such as METHOD_CREATE, METHOD_DEPLOY and read visibility resolved against domain user roles. The flaw class is CWE-862 Missing Authorization, and it arises from two independent defects that compose into a full bypass. First, lib/SelfService/CoreLogic.class.php::uninstallSelfService() iterates over the supplied uninstall_package_assignment_id[] values and calls checkPermission(..., METHOD_DEPLOY, false) on the derived computer and package, but the third argument disables throwing, so a denied check only skips that loop iteration - the rejected IDs stay in $installationIds and the unmodified array is handed to lib/CoreLogic.class.php::uninstall(). Second, uninstallSelfService() constructs new \CoreLogic($this->db, null, $this->du) with a null SystemUser; checkPermission() in CoreLogic is written to return true whenever $this->su is not a SystemUser instance, on the assumption that a null SystemUser means a genuine system/cron context. As a result no effective gate remains inside uninstall() when it writes the job_container_job rows. The read path is not wholly unguarded: getMyComputer() and getMyPackage() still throw when the acting domain user lacks read visibility, so at minimum browse rights on the target computer and package are required, and the target selector is a small sequential auto-increment integer (computer_package.id) that is trivially enumerable. The installer counterpart deploySelfService() calls checkPermission(..., METHOD_DEPLOY) without disabling exceptions, so a denial aborts the request and only vetted IDs reach CoreLogic::deploy() - which is why only the uninstall direction is affected.

1DescriptionCVE.org
OCO-Server is a self-hosted endpoint management application for computer inventory, software deployment, and mobile device management. Prior to 1.2.3, a valid Self-Service Portal user with permission to create job containers and read visibility on a computer and package can queue an uninstall job without deploy permission for those resources. Requests to self-service/ajax-handler/job-containers.php pass uninstall_package_assignment_id[] values to lib/SelfService/CoreLogic.class.php::uninstallSelfService(). Its permission-check loop continues after denied METHOD_DEPLOY checks without removing rejected IDs from $installationIds, then passes the original list to lib/CoreLogic.class.php::uninstall(). The CoreLogic object is constructed with a null SystemUser, causing lib/CoreLogic.class.php::checkPermission() to treat the operation as system context and unconditionally permit it. Enumerable computer_package.id values allow selection of readable installed-package assignments, including those on other users' computers. The deploySelfService() install path instead aborts on denied deployment permission, and resources lacking read permission remain blocked. This permits unauthorized software-removal jobs across resources visible to the acting user's role. This issue is fixed in version 1.2.3.
