Vulnerability Assessment
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires the Apache Kylin job service and its job-driver UI proxy to be directly reachable by the attacker - the advisory states impact is greatest when the job service is 'directly exposed to public network, which is not common,' and that in-house (firewalled/segmented) deployments are 'mostly not impacted.' The core limiting factor is therefore network exposure of the job/UI proxy component; deployments that keep Kylin internal-only sharply reduce or eliminate realistic exploitability. Affected versions are 4.0.0 through 5.0.4; upgrading to 5.0.5 removes the condition. Authentication requirements are not confirmed from available data, as no CVSS vector was published. |
| Impact | No CVSS vector, EPSS score, KEV listing, or POC was provided in any source, so quantitative exploitation signals are entirely absent - this assessment rests on the vendor advisory text and the CWE class (SSRF) alone. The ASF rates this 'moderate', and the advisory explicitly scopes real-world risk: impact is greatest only for Kylin job services 'directly exposed to public network, which is not common,' and typical in-house deployments are 'mostly not impacted.' This is a self-limiting, deployment-dependent SSRF rather than a broadly exploitable flaw. No public exploit identified at time of analysis, and there is no evidence of active exploitation (not in CISA KEV). Treat this as a routine-priority patch for most operators, escalating only where the Kylin job/UI proxy is internet-facing. Key missing data: an authoritative CVSS vector and any EPSS/KEV signal - exploitation probability cannot be numerically estimated from the inputs, so risk is inferred from the vulnerability class and the vendor's own exposure caveat. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who can reach an internet-exposed Kylin job service sends a request to the job-driver UI proxy containing an attacker-controlled target URL, causing the server to forward the request to internal or otherwise unreachable network resources (e.g., cloud metadata endpoints or internal admin services). Because the proxy issues the request on the server's behalf, the attacker can probe or interact with internal systems the server can reach. No public proof-of-concept was identified at time of analysis. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 16, 2026
Server-side request forgery in the Apache Kylin job-driver UI proxy (versions 4.0.0 through 5.0.4) allows an attacker to induce the Kylin job service to issue requests to attacker-chosen destinations, potentially reaching internal services or cloud metadata endpoints that the Kylin host can access. The vendor explicitly scopes real-world risk to deployments where the job service and its UI proxy are directly exposed to the public network, describing that configuration as uncommon and stating that in-house, segmented Kylin deployments are 'mostly not impacted'; exploitation prerequisites are therefore dominated by network exposure rather than by any inherent weakness in default internal deployments. No public exploit code, EPSS score, KEV listing, or vendor-published CVSS vector was available at time of analysis, so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and the issue carries a moderate severity rating; upgrading to 5.0.5 removes the condition (tracked as KYLIN-6104).
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade Apache Kylin to 5.0.5, the version recorded as the Fix Version for KYLIN-6104, which removes the SSRF condition; consult https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KYLIN-6104 and https://kylin.apache.org/ with the oss-security advisory at https://seclists.org/oss-sec/2026/q4/189 for the upgrade path. Where immediate upgrading is not possible, the most effective compensating control is to remove the exposure that the vendor identifies as the precondition for impact: block public/internet reachability of the Kylin job service and its job-driver UI proxy using firewall rules, security groups, or an authenticating reverse proxy with an explicit allowlist of source networks - the trade-off being that legitimate remote users and external BI integrations must be moved onto VPN or a bastion/jump host. Network segmentation limiting what the Kylin hosts can reach on egress (denying access to link-local metadata endpoints such as 169.254.169.254 and to internal admin APIs) reduces SSRF pivot value but will not stop SSRF to any destination that remains permitted. If the job-driver UI proxy is not required in a given deployment, disabling or unbinding that component removes the attack surface entirely, at the cost of losing the proxied job-driver UI functionality. Because no official CVSS vector or patch refs beyond the 5.0.5 release were published, verify the 5.0.5 artifacts against the official Apache Kylin distribution before deploying.
Affected ProductsAI
Apache Kylin versions 4.0.0 through 5.0.4 inclusive are affected, across the job service and its job-driver UI proxy component. No CPE strings were supplied in the input data, so affected installations must be identified by product name and version rather than by CPE matching. The fixed release is Apache Kylin 5.0.5, which is the Fix Version recorded on the tracking Jira issue KYLIN-6104 (status Closed, Resolution Fixed). The public record is the oss-security posting at https://seclists.org/oss-sec/2026/q4/189, the vendor site at https://kylin.apache.org/, the CVE record at https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-108764, and the remediation-tracking issue at https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KYLIN-6104. Administrators should inventory any Kylin 4.0.0-5.0.4 deployment, with priority on clusters whose job service or job-driver UI proxy is reachable from untrusted networks.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Apache Kylin is a distributed OLAP/analytics engine that pre-computes multi-dimensional cubes and serves sub-second SQL queries to BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI and Excel. Its job service launches and supervises build/query jobs, and the job-driver UI proxy component forwards browser or client requests to the individual job driver processes. The vulnerability is an SSRF (the advisory title and issue KYLIN-6104 identify the class; no CWE was formally assigned in the CVE record's CWE field) in that job-driver UI proxy path: the proxy does not adequately constrain or validate the destinations it will contact on behalf of a caller, so a crafted request causes the Kylin server to perform outbound requests from its own network position. Our internal assessment rates this CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N - network exploitable, low complexity, low privileges required per that vector, no user interaction, scope changed (S:C) because the vulnerable proxy can be leveraged to affect resources beyond its own security authority, with low confidentiality and integrity impact and no availability impact. Note that the vendor published no official CVSS vector (the record lists CVSS Score and Vector as N/A), so authentication requirements are not confirmed from the vendor data alone; the PR:L value in the internal vector implies a low-privileged authenticated position, but this should be validated before it is relied upon. Because the SSRF class permits the Kylin host to be used as a pivot, the practical blast radius depends on what the Kylin server can reach on its network segment (internal HTTP APIs, admin consoles, link-local cloud metadata services), not on the Kylin application itself.
