MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Initial Access The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires the Traccar instance to have OpenID Connect / OAuth SSO login configured and enabled - this is not Traccar's default authentication mode, which sharply narrows the exposed population. The attacker must possess their own valid authorization code from the same OIDC provider and induce the victim's browser to load /api/session/openid/callback (passive user interaction, UI:P). The flaw is that the /api/session/openid/callback handler never validates the OAuth state parameter, so any attacker-supplied code is accepted. Limiting factors: SSO must be configured (non-default), the victim must be enticed to follow an attacker link, and impact is confined to the victim's data being written into the attacker's account rather than takeover of the victim's account. |
| Impact | This is a genuinely low-priority issue and the signals agree on that. The vendor-supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:P/VC:L/VI:L/VA:N) scores only 2.3 - network-reachable and unauthenticated, but requiring passive user interaction (UI:P) and a present attack requirement (AT:P, i.e. the attacker must supply a valid OAuth authorization code from their own account and win a timing/flow race). Impact is limited to low confidentiality and low integrity with no availability or scope impact, consistent with a login-CSRF class flaw (CWE-352) rather than server compromise. No EPSS score, KEV listing, or explicit POC flag was provided in the input; however, a detailed public technical write-up exists (hackmd.io) alongside pinned source-line references, so the mechanism is fully documented even if packaged exploit code is not confirmed. No conflicting signals of note, but one caveat: the CVSS marks PR:N (unauthenticated), yet real exploitation is gated on the target deployment having OpenID Connect SSO configured - a non-default condition the base vector does not capture. Net: a real but minor, conditional CSRF affecting a niche class of SSO-enabled Traccar deployments, not an urgent patch-tonight item. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker running OIDC SSO against the same provider as a target Traccar instance obtains their own valid authorization code, then lures a logged-in or about-to-log-in victim into loading /api/session/openid/callback with that code. Because the OAuth state parameter is never validated, the victim's browser is silently logged into the attacker's account, and any devices or data the victim subsequently registers land in the attacker's account. A public technical write-up documents the flow, but no packaged exploit code is confirmed in the provided data. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 11, 2026
Traccar 5.7 through 6.16.0 can log a victim into an attacker-controlled account via a cross-site request forgery flaw in its OpenID Connect callback, causing data the victim enters, such as registered devices, to be stored in the attacker's account. Exploitation requires the non-default OIDC/OAuth SSO configuration plus user interaction, with the supplied CVSS 4.0 score of 2.3 and the independent assessment CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N both indicating low impact. No public exploit identified at time of analysis; this is not an account takeover of the victim and does not permit code execution or availability impact.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. If OpenID Connect/OAuth SSO is not required, disable it and rely on Traccar local authentication to remove the vulnerable callback path; the trade-off is loss of single sign-on. If SSO must remain enabled, restrict the affected deployment to trusted users, monitor OIDC logins and device/account mappings for unexpected cross-account data writes, and consider temporarily blocking or tightly controlling access to /api/session/openid/callback at the reverse proxy, though blocking it will break legitimate OIDC logins. Watch the vendor repository at https://github.com/traccar/traccar and the VulnCheck advisory at https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/traccar-5.7-through-6.16.0-login-csrf-via-openid-connect-callback for a patched release; upgrade to the first fixed version once published. These are compensating controls only and do not correct the missing state validation.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The issue is CWE-352 cross-site request forgery in the OpenID Connect authorization code flow. Traccar's /api/session/openid/callback handler, implemented around SessionResource.java L175-L193, accepts an authorization code and establishes a session without validating the OAuth state parameter; the related OpenIdProvider.java L110-L198 logic also omits state binding. In a correctly implemented flow, the state parameter is a per-login anti-CSRF token that ties the callback to the initiating browser session. Here an attacker who has a valid authorization code from the same OIDC provider can induce a victim's browser to load the callback, causing the victim to be logged into the attacker's Traccar account; subsequent victim-entered data, such as registered devices, may therefore be written to the attacker's account. The vulnerable component is Traccar (CPE cpe:2.3:a:traccar:traccar:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*), versions 5.7 through 6.16.0, and the flaw is only reachable when OpenID Connect/OAuth SSO is configured, which is not Traccar's default authentication mode. The CVSS 4.0 vector reflects Attack Requirements Present for that non-default SSO configuration, and the impact is limited to low confidentiality and integrity effects on the victim's data placement rather than account takeover.

DescriptionCVE.org
Traccar 5.7 through 6.16.0 contains a cross-site request forgery vulnerability that allows attackers to log victims into attacker-controlled accounts because the OpenID Connect callback never validates the OAuth state parameter. Attackers can induce a victim's browser to load /api/session/openid/callback with their own authorization code, causing data the victim enters, such as registered devices, to land in the attacker's account.
