| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires an authenticated account with privileges to create/edit event minutes (content creator or speaker able to create minutes) to store the crafted HTML payload. The payload only executes when a second privileged user performs CONCURRENT edits to the SAME minutes, triggering the minute-editor conflict-resolution UI that renders the unsanitized HTML - this specific concurrent-edit conflict path is the required deployment/feature condition. Limiting factors: both attacker and victim must hold edit rights on the identical minutes object (per vendor note), the victim must interact by opening the conflicting edit, and the collaboration-dependent timing makes opportunistic/mass exploitation impractical (reflected as AC:H). This is not exploitable against default configurations by an unauthenticated remote attacker. |
| Impact | This is a genuinely low-priority issue despite being a stored XSS (CWE-79). The CVSS 3.1 base score of 4.4 (Medium) is driven down by three limiting metrics in the vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N: high attack complexity (AC:H), required low privileges (PR:L), and required user interaction (UI:R). The scope change (S:C) and network vector (AV:N) are the only aggravating factors, reflecting that injected script executes in the trusted Indico origin. No EPSS score was provided, so statistical exploitation probability cannot be weighed. There is no CISA KEV listing and no public exploit (POC) in the supplied intelligence, so exploitation status is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' Crucially, the AC:H rating is corroborated by the vendor's own advisory note, which states the attacker and victim must both have edit privileges on the SAME minutes and collaborate via concurrent edits to trigger the conflict-resolution UI - a narrow, collusion-like precondition rather than a drive-by attack. All signals are consistent: moderate CVSS, no active exploitation, no POC, and vendor-confirmed low risk. This is a legitimate defense-in-depth fix, not an urgent patch-now emergency; prioritize via normal maintenance cycles. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A low-privileged user who can create content (e.g., a speaker permitted to author minutes) stores crafted HTML containing a script payload in event minutes. When a second privileged user edits the same minutes concurrently, the minute-editor conflict-resolution UI renders the attacker's unsanitized HTML, executing attacker-controlled JavaScript in the viewer's browser within the Indico origin (enabling session/CSRF-token theft or actions as the victim). No public POC is identified, and the high complexity requires both parties to be editing the same minutes. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 08, 2026
Stored cross-site scripting in Indico event management system before 3.3.13 lets authenticated users with content-creation privileges, such as speakers who can create minutes, store crafted HTML in event minutes. The script executes in a victim's browser only when a second privileged user makes concurrent edits to the same minutes, triggering the minute editor's conflict-resolution UI that renders the unsanitized payload. No public exploit has been identified at time of analysis, and the vendor rated the risk as relatively low due to the collaboration and privilege prerequisites.
RemediationAI
Upgrade to Indico 3.3.13, which contains the vendor-released patch for this issue. The fix is available via the release tag v3.3.13 (https://github.com/indico/indico/releases/tag/v3.3.13) and the specific commit d4c8c7127176efa4cb53c64119ca8ee2b551be18. If immediate upgrade is not possible, restrict the ability to create or edit event minutes to trusted users only, as exploitation requires an attacker with such privileges and a victim concurrently editing the same minutes; however, this is a functional trade-off and does not fully eliminate the risk. Additionally, monitor for suspicious concurrent editing activity. Refer to the GitHub security advisory GHSA-cw24-x4mj-fw3q for further guidance.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Indico is an open-source event management system built on Python/Flask that uses Flask-Multipass for multi-backend authentication. The vulnerability is a classic stored cross-site scripting (CWE-79) in the minute editor's conflict-resolution interface: when two users edit the same minutes concurrently, the conflict UI fails to sanitize attacker-controlled HTML, allowing script execution in the Indico origin. The fix in version 3.3.13 adds HTML sanitization via marshmallow post_dump hooks in the event notes schemas and enforces URL validation (restricting to http/https) in attachment and layout forms, as well as a custom form field that only allows http/https URLs. This patch also addresses a related XSS in custom link fields. The underlying cause is insufficient output encoding/sanitization of user-supplied HTML in the context of collaborative editing.

Indico is an event management system that uses Flask-Multipass, a multi-backend authentication system for Flask. Prior to 3.3.13, users who can create content, including speakers who can create minutes, can store crafted HTML in event minutes. When concurrent edits are made to the same minutes, the minute editor conflict UI can execute attacker-controlled script in the viewer's browser in the Indico origin. This issue is fixed in version 3.3.13.
