Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires an authenticated Indico account (PR:L) and the ability to access the event that contains the target session; the attacker then invokes the legacy session export API, which failed to call session.can_access() per session. Limiting factors: the attacker must already have valid credentials and legitimate access to the parent event, only restricted sessions whose containing event is accessible are exposed, and the leak is confined to read-only metadata (title, description, conveners) with no integrity or availability impact. Affected deployments are Indico prior to 3.3.13; upgrading to 3.3.13 adds the missing check.

Impact

This is a genuine but low-priority information-disclosure issue, and the available signals are internally consistent rather than conflicting. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N, base 4.3) accurately reflects the description: network-reachable, low-complexity, but requiring an authenticated account (PR:L) and yielding only low confidentiality impact with no integrity or availability effect. CWE-862 (Missing Authorization) matches the root cause - a missing can_access() check in the sessions export API. No EPSS score, KEV listing, or POC was provided; the only exploitation signal is confirmation that neither active exploitation nor public exploit code is indicated in the input. The GitHub security advisory (GHSA-6p4f-j8j6-463q), the fixing commit, and the v3.3.13 release are all present, so the fix is well documented. Net: a real authorization-bypass bug worth patching on a normal cadence, but not an emergency - impact is limited to disclosure of session metadata (title, description, conveners), it requires valid credentials, and there is no indication of exploitation. Note the 'Authentication Bypass' tag is imprecise: per CWE-862 and the description this is an authorization/access-control failure, not authentication bypass.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An authenticated Indico user who can view a public event but is not permitted to see a restricted session within it calls the legacy session export API for that event. Because the endpoint omits a per-session access check, the response leaks the restricted session's metadata (title, description, conveners). No public exploit code is identified at time of analysis, though the one-line fixing commit makes the flaw trivial to reproduce.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 08, 2026

Missing per-session authorization in Indico's legacy session export API (all versions prior to 3.3.13) allows any authenticated user who can access a parent event to pull metadata - session title, description, and conveners - for restricted sessions they are not permitted to view. Exploitation requires a valid Indico account plus legitimate access to the containing event, and the leaked data is read-only, so impact is limited to low-severity information disclosure (CVSS 4.3, PR:L, C:L only). There is no public exploit identified at time of analysis, and the flaw is corrected in 3.3.13 via a vendor-released patch.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Indico 3.3.13 (https://github.com/indico/indico/releases/tag/v3.3.13), which contains the authorization guard from commit 524e8e93eadcd8484905b1147020a35f5dce6038; the change is small and low-risk, so there is little reason to delay the upgrade. Track advisory GHSA-6p4f-j8j6-463q for the vendor's own guidance and any backports. If an immediate upgrade is not possible, the exposure is narrow enough that targeted compensating controls work: restrict the ability to view or join events to a trusted, vetted set of users (for example, keep sensitive events private rather than domain-wide, which removes the precondition of accessibility to the containing event), and inventory which restricted sessions carry sensitive metadata such as convener identities, since only title, description, and conveners are disclosed. Disabling or blocking the legacy session export endpoint at the reverse-proxy layer would close the leak completely, but the side effect is that legitimate session export/JSON consumption for accessible sessions would also break, so it should be treated as a temporary measure while the upgrade is scheduled. Because exploitation requires a valid account (PR:L), tightening account provisioning and auditing Indico accounts with access to confidential events reduces the blast radius without requiring code changes.

Technical ContextAI · show details

Indico is a Python/Flask event management system that relies on Flask-Multipass as its multi-backend authentication and identity layer, meaning user identity and authorization decisions are made per-request against session and event objects rather than through a single global ACL. The vulnerable code lives in indico/modules/events/api.py inside the session export serialization path (the _build_sessions_api_data helper used by the legacy session export API). CWE-862 (Missing Authorization) is the root-cause class: the serializer iterated over the sessions attached to an event and emitted their data directly, without first evaluating each session's own can_access(self.user) permission check. Because the container-level event check was performed but the per-object check was not, the code implemented a classic authorization gap - an object-level access control that is enforced everywhere else in the application but omitted on this one legacy endpoint. The upstream fix (commit 524e8e93eadcd8484905b1147020a35f5dce6038) is a two-line guard that skips any session for which can_access() returns false, restoring consistency between the export API and the rest of Indico's session-visibility logic. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:indico:indico:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* confirms the affected component is Indico itself rather than a third-party dependency such as Flask-Multipass, so deployments on any release before 3.3.13 carry the flaw.

DescriptionCVE.org

Indico is an event management system that uses Flask-Multipass, a multi-backend authentication system for Flask. Prior to 3.3.13, an authenticated user can misuse the legacy session export API to retrieve details for a restricted session without access to that session, as long as the containing event is accessible. The missing access check can disclose session metadata such as the title, description, and conveners. This issue is fixed in version 3.3.13.
