MITRE ATT&CK

| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires an authenticated low-privileged actor (PR:L) who can control the URL value passed to a Kendo UI Splitter, Window, or Tooltip iframe, or the title of a Window iframe, in an application running a vulnerable version (Splitter/Window from 2011.2.804, Tooltip from 2013.1.319, all prior to 2026.3.1015). The specific injection vector is an apostrophe within an iframe URL or a crafted iframe title that breaks out of the attribute context to add HTML attributes/JavaScript event handlers. Exploitation is LIMITED by three factors: the attacker must already have privileges to set those component values, the application must actually render untrusted input into these iframe-backed components, and a separate victim user must interact with the affected component (UI:R) for the injected script to fire - it is not a drive-by, zero-interaction flaw. |
| Impact | This is a moderate-risk stored/reflected XSS (CWE-79) in widely-used Kendo UI for jQuery components (Splitter, Window, Tooltip), best characterized as a real-but-not-urgent issue rather than a high-priority emergency. The provided CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N, base 5.4) tells a consistent story: network-reachable and low-complexity, but it requires an authenticated low-privileged attacker (PR:L) who can control the vulnerable URL/title values AND requires a victim to interact with the component (UI:R). The scope change (S:C) reflects that injected script executes in another user's browser context, which is why confidentiality and integrity are rated Low rather than None. No EPSS score, CISA KEV listing, POC reference, or SSVC decision data was supplied, so there is no evidence of active exploitation or automatable mass exploitation - exploitation status is therefore 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' The CVSS network vector is consistent with the description (attacker-controlled values rendered to another user), with no contradiction between vector and description. The main uncertainty is that EPSS/KEV/POC signals are simply absent from the input, so real-world exploitation likelihood cannot be quantified; the combined PR:L + UI:R prerequisites naturally cap practical risk below what the CWE-79 label alone might suggest. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A low-privileged authenticated user of an application built on Kendo UI for jQuery supplies a crafted iframe URL containing an apostrophe (or a malicious Window iframe title) into a Splitter, Window, or Tooltip component, which is rendered without proper sanitization/encoding. When another user later interacts with that component, the injected JavaScript event handler executes in their browser session, allowing theft or modification of data accessible to that victim. No public exploit code was identified in the provided data, and successful exploitation depends on the victim interacting with the affected component (UI:R). |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 15, 2026
Cross-site scripting in Progress Kendo UI for jQuery (all versions prior to 2026.3.1015) allows an authenticated low-privileged actor who controls the URL value passed to iframe-backed Splitter, Window, or Tooltip components - or the title of a Window iframe - to inject HTML attributes and JavaScript event handlers into the generated iframe markup, executing script in a victim's browser context when that user interacts with the affected widget (CVSS 3.1 base 5.4, AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N). Splitter and Window have been affected since 2011.2.804 and Tooltip since 2013.1.319, so any application on an older Kendo UI for jQuery release that renders untrusted input into these components is exposed. Exploitation requires pre-existing privileges to set the component value plus a separate victim's interaction, making this a real but non-urgent issue; there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and the CVE is not confirmed actively exploited (CISA KEV).
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade Kendo UI for jQuery to version 2026.3.1015 or later, which is the first release that sanitizes iframe URL values and encodes the Window iframe title; the upgrade advisory is at https://www.telerik.com/kendo-jquery-ui/documentation/knowledge-base/kb-security-cross-site-scripting-splitter-window-tooltip-cve-2026-106150. Until the library can be upgraded, the effective compensating controls are to stop passing untrusted data into the url and title options of the Splitter, Window, and Tooltip widgets - validate URLs server-side against an allow-list of expected origins and strip or encode apostrophes, quotes, angle brackets, and event-handler-style attribute text before they reach the component, and never render user-supplied iframe titles without HTML encoding. The trade-off is that strict URL allow-listing and character stripping can break legitimate deep links or titles containing special characters, so those inputs need to be normalized rather than blanket-rejected, and any consumer application that already renders these values through an HTML-and-attribute-aware encoder (rather than raw string concatenation) is effectively mitigated without a library upgrade. Organizations that cannot patch promptly should also consider a Content Security Policy that blocks inline script and untrusted frame sources; this reduces the blast radius of the injected handler but does not fix the underlying markup injection and may require script refactoring to avoid breaking legitimate widgets.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Kendo UI for jQuery's Splitter, Window, and Tooltip widgets build iframe elements at runtime from configuration values supplied by the host application. The vulnerability class is CWE-79 (improper neutralization of input during web page generation, i.e., cross-site scripting): the components concatenate URL values into iframe src attributes without sanitization and write the Window iframe title into the element markup without HTML encoding. Because of the missing attribute-context escaping, a single apostrophe in the URL value (or a crafted title) terminates the attribute and lets an attacker append arbitrary HTML attributes to the iframe tag, including JavaScript event handlers such as onload or onerror, which then execute in the user's browser when the widget is rendered or interacted with. The CPE record cpe:2.3:a:progress_software:kendo_ui_for_jquery:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* confirms that the affected component is the Telerik/Progress Kendo UI for jQuery library itself rather than a specific server product, and the CVSS vector's Scope:Changed (S:C) reflects that the injected script runs outside the original component's security context once it escapes into the page. The assessed impact is limited to low confidentiality and integrity loss (C:L/I:L) with no availability impact, consistent with injected script running under the privileges of the interacting user inside the afflicted application.

AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N
PR:L because the attacker must be a low-privileged user able to control component values; UI:R because a victim must interact with the component; S:C and C:L/I:L as script runs in the victim's browser context.

Lifecycle Timeline
1DescriptionCVE.org
In Progress® Kendo® UI for jQuery prior to 2026.3.1015, the Splitter and Window components starting with version 2011.2.804 and the Tooltip component starting with version 2013.1.319 construct iframe markup without properly sanitizing URL values or encoding the Window iframe title. An attacker with low privileges who can control these values can inject HTML attributes, including JavaScript event handlers, through an apostrophe in an iframe URL or a crafted title. When a user interacts with the affected component, injected JavaScript can execute in the user's browser context, compromising the confidentiality and integrity of accessible data.
