| Exploitation Conditions | Requires a YesWiki instance (before 4.6.7) that permits account self-registration, and the attacker must be able to create an account whose username contains a double-quote SQL payload - the username is stored and later concatenated unescaped into the read-ACL LIKE clause built by AclService::updateRequestWithACL. Exploitation is then triggered by loading a non-admin, ACL-filtered listing that invokes that code path. Limiting factors: a (low-privilege) authenticated account is required per PR:L, so instances with self-registration disabled or restricted username validation substantially raise the bar; no user interaction by a victim is needed, and impact is confined to reading database contents/bypassing read ACLs rather than full write or RCE. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but moderate-priority issue, not an emergency. The vendor-supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H) scores 7.2 and indicates a network-reachable, low-complexity attack requiring only low privileges - satisfied by a self-registered account, which on a public YesWiki instance is a trivially low bar. The primary impact is confidentiality (VC:H: reading arbitrary database contents and bypassing read ACLs), with only low integrity/availability impact (VI:L/VA:L) and no scope change (SC:N). No EPSS score was provided, this CVE is NOT in CISA KEV, and no public POC is indicated - so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no evidence of active exploitation. The reporting by VulnCheck and the existence of a GitHub Security Advisory (GHSA-6rw5-62xf-q5xp) confirm the technical validity, but the real-world threat is tempered by low product prevalence and the authentication requirement. Net: a real, patchable data-disclosure flaw worth remediating promptly on internet-facing instances that allow self-registration, but not a drop-everything event absent exploitation signals. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker self-registers an ordinary YesWiki account using a username containing a crafted double-quote SQL payload, which is stored verbatim. They then browse a non-admin, ACL-filtered listing page, causing AclService::updateRequestWithACL to concatenate their stored username unescaped into a read-ACL LIKE clause, executing the injected SQL. No public POC is identified at time of analysis, but the technique is well-understood and low-complexity. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 02, 2026
Second-order SQL injection in YesWiki before 4.6.7 allows a low-privileged authenticated user to read database contents and bypass read ACLs by self-registering an account whose username contains a double-quote SQL payload, which AclService::updateRequestWithACL later concatenates unescaped into the read-ACL LIKE clause when a non-admin ACL-filtered listing is loaded. Exploitation requires the instance to permit account self-registration and to accept a username carrying the payload, per the assessed CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:L/A:L vector, so instances with self-registration disabled or with strict username validation are substantially harder to attack, and no victim interaction is needed. Although the vendor has released a fix in 4.6.7, no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis; impact is confined to database read-out and read-ACL bypass rather than write or remote code execution, making this a genuine but moderate-priority issue, not an emergency.
RemediationAI
Apply the vendor-released patch: upgrade YesWiki to 4.6.7 or later, following the GitHub Security Advisory GHSA-6rw5-62xf-q5xp (https://github.com/YesWiki/yeswiki/security/advisories/GHSA-6rw5-62xf-q5xp) and the VulnCheck advisory (https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/yeswiki-before-4.6.7-second-order-sql-injection-via-acl-username), which is the primary and complete fix. If immediate upgrade is not possible, the most effective compensating control is to disable or tightly restrict account self-registration so that untrusted users cannot plant a stored payload in a username; the trade-off is loss of open collaboration, but it directly removes the PR:L precondition and is the single highest-value mitigation. Additionally, enforce server-side username validation that rejects double quotes and other SQL metacharacters at registration time, accepting the minor compatibility cost for legitimate usernames; note that this must be applied at the validation layer rather than relying on escaping alone. Administrators of already-exposed instances should audit stored usernames for quote or SQL-fragment characters and rename or disable any suspicious accounts, since the payload persists until removed, and should review database logs for unexpected read-ACL-filtered listing requests that could indicate attempted exploitation. Web application firewalls or reverse-proxy rules matching quote characters in registration fields can add a layer of protection but are trivially bypassed by encoding tricks and should not be treated as substitutes for patching.

Technical ContextAI · show details
YesWiki is a PHP-based wiki/CMS whose access-control layer is implemented in AclService. CVE-2026-104456 is a second-order (stored) SQL injection, classed as CWE-89, in AclService::updateRequestWithACL: the function builds a read-ACL LIKE clause by concatenating a stored, user-controlled username without escaping it. Unlike a first-order injection, the malicious input is delivered earlier - during self-registration, where the attacker chooses a username containing a double quote and SQL fragment - and is persisted in the database; the injection only fires when a later request loads a non-admin, ACL-filtered listing that executes this code path and the stored value is re-used in the query. Because the injected payload is inside a LIKE clause used to filter which entries a user may read, successful injection lets the attacker subvert the query logic to disclose rows normally hidden by read ACLs as well as other database contents. The only CPE supplied, cpe:2.3:a:yeswiki:yeswiki:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*, together with EUVD's version range of 0 up to but not including 4.6.7, confirms that all YesWiki releases prior to 4.6.7 are affected; no platform-specific CPE constraints are given, so any deployment of the affected versions is in scope regardless of host OS.

2DescriptionCVE.org
YesWiki before 4.6.7 contains a second-order SQL injection vulnerability in AclService::updateRequestWithACL, where a stored username is concatenated unescaped into a read-ACL LIKE clause. Attackers can self-register an account name containing a double-quote payload, then load non-admin ACL-filtered listings to read database contents and bypass read ACLs.
Technical POC Analysis
CWE-89, second-order (stored) SQL injection in YesWiki core: AclService::updateRequestWithACL() in includes/services/AclService.php.
Full technical POC analysis - root cause, step-by-step exploitation and patch breakdown - is part of the Pro and Business plans.
Executive ViewAI
Organizations running YesWiki versions before 4.6.7 face a high-severity, authenticated SQL injection risk that can let a self-registered low-privileged user read database contents and bypass read access controls. No public exploit identified at time of analysis, and the impact is limited to confidentiality and ACL bypass rather than code execution or data modification; Vendor-released patch: 4.6.7 is available. Security leadership should prioritize patching because exposed wiki content and weakened access-control assurances can affect compliance and sensitive information handling.
Apply vendor patch.
