Exploitation Conditions

The target site must run the Wp Social Login and Register Social Counter plugin (version ≤3.2.2) with the bundled Facebook or Twitter social-login provider configured and active - this is the key limiting factor and is not a WordPress default. The attacker must control an OAuth account on that configured provider (Facebook or Twitter specifically, because only their bundled Hybridauth adapters assign the raw email string rather than a boolean to emailVerified, making the verification guard a no-op) whose provider-returned email exactly matches the victim account's registered WordPress email address. The attacker must therefore know or guess a target user's registered email (e.g. an administrator's). No WordPress credentials, nonce, CSRF token, or prior site foothold is required, and no victim interaction is needed; the REST callback is reachable unauthenticated. Providers other than the vulnerable Facebook/Twitter adapters may not be exploitable.

Impact

This is a genuine high-priority issue, not an inflated CVSS number, but its real-world risk is gated by configuration. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H, base 8.1) shows an unauthenticated (PR:N), network-reachable, no-interaction authentication bypass that yields full confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact - i.e. complete takeover of any existing account, including Administrator. The AC:H reflects real constraints: the target site must have the bundled Facebook or Twitter social-login configured, and the attacker must control an OAuth account whose provider-returned email matches the victim's registered WordPress email. The vuln.today decision label is 'this_week' (priority, but not emergency). No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit code are present in the input, so there is no evidence of active or widespread exploitation; this suggests the urgency is driven by the severity and ease of the logic flaw rather than observed attacks. Signals are consistent rather than conflicting: a high technical impact tempered by a non-default-configuration prerequisite and the need to match a specific email. Treat as a near-term patching priority for any site using Facebook/Twitter social login via this plugin.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker targets a WordPress site running this plugin (≤3.2.2) with Facebook or Twitter social login enabled and knows an administrator's registered email address. The attacker arranges a Facebook or Twitter OAuth account whose returned email matches that administrator, then triggers the social-login flow against the site's /wp-json/wslu-social-login/type/{provider}/ REST callback; because the endpoint uses permission_callback => __return_true and the emailVerified guard is a no-op for the bundled Facebook/Twitter adapters, the site locates the admin account by email and issues an authenticated session cookie with no password check. No public exploit code is identified in the provided data.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 31, 2026

Authentication bypass in Wp Social Login and Register Social Counter 3.2.2 and earlier allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to obtain a fully authenticated WordPress session as an existing user, including an administrator, when the site has the bundled Facebook or Twitter social-login provider configured and active. The plugin's social-login REST callback trusts the OAuth provider's email string and calls wp_set_auth_cookie() without a password check, while the intended email-verification guard is ineffective for the bundled Hybridauth Facebook and Twitter adapters. No public exploit is identified at time of analysis, and the provided intelligence does not confirm active exploitation, but the assessed prerequisites and high impact make this a this-week priority.

RemediationAI

No released patched version is named in the provided data; an upstream fix changeset is referenced at https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset?reponame=&old=3752566%40wp-social&new=3752566%40wp-social, so update to a plugin release that contains that changeset when available. Until then, disable the bundled Facebook and Twitter social-login providers or deactivate the plugin, because the bypass depends on one of those providers being configured and active; either action removes the vulnerable REST callback path but also removes the associated social-login functionality. Review accounts whose registered email addresses may have been exposed for unexpected authenticated sessions.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The affected software is a WordPress plugin that implements social login through a REST endpoint at /wp-json/wslu-social-login/type/{provider}/. The route is registered with permission_callback => __return_true, so the callback is reachable without WordPress authentication. In inc/admin-create-user.php the plugin maps the email string returned by the OAuth provider to an existing WordPress account and calls wp_set_auth_cookie() without a password check, which is CWE-287 improper authentication. The only intended verification gate is !empty($getProfile->emailVerified), but the bundled Hybridauth Facebook and Twitter adapters assign the raw email string to emailVerified rather than a boolean verified flag, so a non-empty email satisfies the check even though no verified-email assertion occurred. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:roxnor:wp_social_login_and_register_social_counter:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* identifies the plugin, and the assessed vector is CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H; the high attack complexity is consistent with the narrow prerequisites of a configured vulnerable provider and an attacker-controlled OAuth email that matches a target WordPress account, rather than a timing or race condition.

DescriptionNVD

The Wp Social Login and Register Social Counter plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Authentication Bypass in all versions up to, and including, 3.2.2. This is due to the social login REST callback registered at /wp-json/wslu-social-login/type/{provider}/ with permission_callback => __return_true locating an existing WordPress account solely by the email string returned from the OAuth provider and calling wp_set_auth_cookie() without a password check, while the only verification guard - !empty($getProfile->emailVerified) in inc/admin-create-user.php - is a no-op for the bundled Hybridauth Facebook and Twitter adapters, both of which assign the raw email string rather than a boolean verified flag to emailVerified. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to obtain a fully authenticated session as any existing WordPress user, including Administrators, whose registered email address can be presented through a configured Facebook or Twitter login on the target site. Exploitation requires only that the attacker control an OAuth account whose provider-returned email matches the target account's registered WordPress email address; no local credentials, nonce, or prior foothold is needed.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

A critical authentication bypass in the WP Social Login and Register Social Counter plugin (versions 3.2.2 and earlier) allows unauthenticated attackers to gain full administrative access to WordPress sites that use the bundled Facebook or Twitter social-login providers. This puts any organization relying on this plugin for social login at risk of complete site takeover, data theft, and reputational damage. Leadership should treat this as an urgent priority because exploitation requires no credentials and the impact is total compromise of the affected WordPress installation.

Business Impact: Severe
Compensating Controls

No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigation: disable the bundled Facebook and Twitter social-login providers until a patch is available. Additionally, restrict access to the plugin's REST callback endpoints via WAF or server configuration, and monitor for unauthorized admin sessions.
