Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires an authenticated high-privilege openSIS-Classic account (CVSS PR:H) able to reach the save action of the General Information Tab, which invokes modules/students/Student.php; the injection is delivered through the user-controlled 'students' argument. The attack is remote over the network with no user interaction, but the mandatory high-privilege authentication is the key limiting factor - this is not exploitable pre-authentication or by low-privilege users. No non-default configuration is otherwise required beyond a standard deployment of openSIS-Classic 9.0 through 9.3; no fixed version is available since the vendor has not responded.

Impact

This is a moderate, not urgent, priority. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N, VC:L/VI:L/VA:L, E:P) describes a network-reachable but privilege-gated SQL injection: PR:H means the attacker already needs a high-privilege authenticated account in the application before the save action of the General Information Tab is reachable, which sharply limits the realistic attacker pool to insiders or accounts already compromised. Only partial confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact (VC/VI/VA:L) is claimed rather than full database compromise, keeping the score at 5.1. A public exploit exists (VulDB, GitHub issue #475) and E:P (Proof-of-Concept) is encoded in the vector, but there is no CISA KEV listing and no EPSS score provided, so there is no evidence of widespread or automated exploitation - the POC raises reproducibility but not necessarily mass-exploitation likelihood. The PR:H gate is the dominant limiting signal and should temper any inflation from the 'public exploit' flag; treat this as a targeted/insider-abuse or chained-post-authentication risk rather than an internet-wide emergency. The vendor has been notified but has not responded, so no fix is currently confirmed available.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker holding a high-privilege authenticated openSIS-Classic account (e.g. a compromised staff/admin login) submits the student General Information save form and tampers with the 'students' argument, injecting SQL that the Student.php save action passes unsanitized into a database query. A publicly disclosed proof-of-concept exists (GitHub issue #475), lowering the effort to reproduce and enabling reading or modifying database records beyond the attacker's intended scope.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 30, 2026

SQL injection in OS4ED openSIS-Classic 9.0 through 9.3 allows a high-privilege authenticated user to manipulate the 'students' argument in the General Information Tab save action and inject data into backend SQL queries. Publicly available exploit code exists, but there is no CISA KEV confirmation, and the independent assessment treats this as a moderate, not urgent, priority because exploitation requires an authenticated high-privilege account. No vendor-released patch is identified, and the upstream project has not responded to the issue report.

RemediationAI

No vendor-released patch is identified at time of analysis, as the upstream openSIS-Classic project has not responded to the issue report. Because exploitation requires an authenticated high-privilege account, the most actionable controls are to enforce least privilege for student-record editing, remove or disable unused high-privilege accounts, and audit access to the General Information Tab save action. If the endpoint is not needed from untrusted networks, restrict or block access to modules/students/Student.php at the web server or reverse proxy with an allowlist, understanding that this can break legitimate remote administrative workflows. Deploy a WAF rule targeting SQL injection patterns in the 'students' parameter, accepting possible false positives, and monitor application and database logs for anomalous SQL errors or unexpected query activity. Apply a vendor patch when one becomes available and track updates via https://github.com/OS4ED/openSIS-Classic/issues/475, https://vuldb.com/vuln/411869, and EUVD-2026-89762.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The affected software is the PHP-based openSIS-Classic student information system, identified by the CPE cpe:2.3:a:os4ed:opensis-classic:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* and EUVD-2026-89762. The vulnerable code path is the save action of modules/students/Student.php in the General Information Tab; the user-controlled 'students' argument is passed into a SQL query without sufficient neutralization, which is a CWE-89 SQL injection root cause. Versions 9.0, 9.1, 9.2, and 9.3 are in scope. The independent assessment vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L indicates remote exploitation with no user interaction, but it mandates a high-privilege authenticated account and limits impact to low confidentiality, integrity, and availability with no scope change.
