Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires the target organization to use Arista CloudVision with SSO configured, and the attacker must induce a legitimate user to click a specially crafted login URL (UI:P) that the vulnerable SSO flow fails to validate, redirecting IdP-issued authentication material to an attacker-controlled URL. Limiting factors: no authentication is needed by the attacker (PR:N) but success depends on victim interaction, the presence and specific configuration of the SSO/IdP integration, and the high complexity/attack requirements (AC:H/AT:P) of producing a redirect accepted by the deployment. It does not affect CloudVision instances that do not use the SSO login flow.

Impact

This is a CWE-601 open redirect in the SSO login flow of Arista CloudVision, vendor-rated CVSS 4.0 7.6 (High). The CVSS 4.0 vector tells a consistent story with the description: network reachable (AV:N) but non-trivial to pull off - high attack complexity (AC:H), a present attack requirement (AT:P), and mandatory user interaction (UI:P, the victim must click the crafted URL). Critically, PR:N confirms the attacker needs no authentication, and VC:H/VI:H reflect that captured authentication material enables impersonation/session takeover of the victim's CloudVision access. No EPSS score, KEV listing, or POC is present in the input, so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no evidence of active exploitation - the risk is latent rather than imminent. The combination of AC:H + AT:P + UI:P materially lowers real-world exploitability versus the 7.6 headline: an attacker must both craft a valid redirect against a specific IdP/CloudVision SSO configuration and socially engineer a legitimate user into clicking. This is a credible targeted phishing-grade credential/token theft issue for organizations using Arista CloudVision SSO, but it is not a wormable, drive-by, or mass-exploitation bug. No conflicting signals were found between the CVSS vector and the description; both point to interaction-dependent, unauthenticated open redirect.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker crafts a malicious SSO login URL for an organization's Arista CloudVision deployment that abuses insufficient redirect validation, then phishes a legitimate user into clicking it. When the user authenticates, the identity provider delivers the authentication material (token/assertion) to the attacker-controlled URL instead of CloudVision, letting the attacker hijack the session or impersonate the user. No public POC is identified at time of analysis, and success depends on the victim clicking (UI:P) and the specific SSO configuration (AC:H/AT:P).

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 06, 2026

Insufficient validation in the Single Sign-On (SSO) login flow of Arista CloudVision lets a remote, unauthenticated attacker craft a login URL that, once clicked by a user, causes the identity provider to send IdP-issued authentication material to an attacker-controlled URL rather than to CloudVision (CWE-601 open redirect), resulting in credential/assertion theft and potential account impersonation. The vulnerability is rated High (vendor CVSS 4.0 7.6; assessed CVSS 3.1 7.6, AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R with High confidentiality and integrity impact) and only affects deployments where CloudVision SSO is configured and in use. No public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation was identified at time of analysis, and exploitation depends on victim interaction plus specific SSO/IdP configuration and the attacker's ability to produce a redirect accepted by the deployment.

RemediationAI

Apply the fixed CloudVision release identified in Arista Security Advisory 0187 (https://www.arista.com/en/support/advisories-notices/security-advisory/24803-security-advisory-0187); the advisory is the authoritative source for the exact patched version, since no specific fix version was included in the supplied data (patch availability for this CVE is not independently confirmed here beyond the vendor advisory). Until the patched release is deployed, the most direct compensating control is to disable the SSO login flow and fall back to local CloudVision authentication, accepting the operational trade-off of losing centralized identity management and single sign-on convenience; alternatively, restrict access to the CloudVision login/SSO endpoints to trusted management networks, though this only narrows the attack surface and does not fix the redirect. Because the redirect target is supplied in the crafted URL, administrators should review and harden the IdP configuration so that assertions/tokens are only issued to pre-registered, exact-match callback URLs, and should monitor IdP and CloudVision logs for authentication material being delivered to unexpected or external destinations, treating any such event as a potential credential compromise requiring session/credential revocation. User awareness regarding unsolicited SSO login links adds defense in depth but is not a substitute for patching or disabling SSO.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The issue is an open redirect (CWE-601) rooted in the way CloudVision's SSO login flow handles redirect or return URLs before or during the hand-off to the identity provider. In SSO integrations the service typically passes a callback/return parameter that the IdP uses to deliver authentication material (for example a SAML assertion or OIDC authorization code/token) back to the application; if that parameter is not strictly validated against an allow-list of trusted origins, an attacker can substitute an attacker-controlled destination. Because the redirection is performed by the IdP toward the crafted URL, the sensitive authentication artifact is disclosed to the attacker's server. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:H/AT:P/PR:N/UI:P/VC:H/VI:H/VA:N, Scope unchanged) indicates a network-reachable, unauthenticated attack in which success is gated by passive user interaction and by Attack Requirements being present - meaning the targeted organization must be running a CloudVision deployment with the SSO flow enabled and reachable, and the crafted redirect must be accepted by that configuration. The assessed CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N) is consistent with this: no attacker credentials required, but high attack complexity and victim interaction, with confidentiality and integrity both rated High and availability unaffected. Instances that do not use the SSO login path are not exposed.

DescriptionCVE.org

Insufficient validation in the Single Sign-On (SSO) login flow could allow a remote, unauthenticated attacker to craft a URL that, when clicked by a user, causes the identity provider (IdP) to deliver authentication material to an attacker-controlled URL instead of to CloudVision.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Arista CloudVision deployments that use Single Sign-On are exposed to a high-severity vulnerability that can let an unauthenticated attacker steal authentication material and impersonate users, potentially gaining unauthorized access to network management capabilities. The issue requires a user to click a crafted login URL and specific SSO/IdP configuration, but successful exploitation could undermine trust in CloudVision as a control plane for network infrastructure. Leadership should prioritize verification of SSO configurations and interim mitigations while awaiting a vendor patch.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations include restricting IdP redirect URIs to exact CloudVision callback URLs, disabling SSO if strict redirect validation is not possible, monitoring authentication logs, and alerting users to phishing-style login links.
