| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires only a publicly reachable page using Balbooa Forms below version 2.4.3.4 with the file-attachment upload feature in use, so that temporary attachments exist to target. No authentication and no user interaction are needed: any guest can request a valid Joomla session token for their own session, satisfying the CSRF token check, and then invoke the public removeTmpAttachment action with an arbitrary integer attachment ID. The only real limiter is that impact is confined to deletion of other users' temporary/pending upload records and files (attacker must enumerate valid integer IDs); it does not grant read access or affect fully-committed submissions beyond their temporary attachment state. |
| Impact | The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N) describes a genuinely remote, unauthenticated, low-complexity flaw requiring no user interaction, which is the worst case for reachability. However, the impact is deliberately narrow: only VI:L (integrity-low) is set, with confidentiality and availability at N, because the flaw only lets an attacker delete other users' temporary form attachments - it does not read data or take down the service. The 6.9 score therefore reflects easy reach against limited impact, not a system-compromise bug. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public POC were provided, so there is no evidence of active or automated exploitation - this is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' The CVSS and description are consistent (both point to unauthenticated network access), so there is no vector/description conflict to flag. Realistically this is a medium-priority data-integrity issue: trivial to trigger but bounded to nuisance-level destruction of transient upload state, not a high-urgency emergency. The classic CWE-639 (IDOR) pattern is confirmed by the description: authentication of the request (via token) succeeds while authorization of the target object is absent. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An unauthenticated visitor loads a public Balbooa Forms page, obtains a valid Joomla session token for their own session, then calls the public removeTmpAttachment action while iterating integer attachment IDs. Because the model never binds the ID to the uploading session, user, form, or field, each request deletes another visitor's pending attachment row and file. No public exploit code is identified, but the attack is a trivial scripted ID-enumeration loop. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 29, 2026
Unauthenticated guests can delete other users' temporary file attachments on Joomla sites running the Balbooa Forms extension below version 2.4.3.4. The public removeTmpAttachment action accepts an integer attachment ID and deletes the matching database row and file; the controller does verify a Joomla session token, but the model never ties that ID to the uploading session, user, form, upload field, or temporary state, so any guest can obtain a token for their own session and then destroy arbitrary pending uploads by enumerating valid integer IDs. Impact is confined to integrity of temporary/pending attachment records and files (CVSS 3.1 C:N/I:L/A:N, no confidentiality or availability effect), and no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade Balbooa Forms to version 2.4.3.4 or later, which is the first version outside the affected "< 2.4.3.4" range; obtain the updated package and release notes from the vendor at https://www.balbooa.com/ and verify the installed extension version in Joomla's extension manager after updating. Patched versions bind the attachment ID to the owning session/user before deletion, so no further configuration is needed once applied. If immediate upgrade is not possible, remove or unpublish any Balbooa Forms form that uses the file-attachment upload field, which eliminates the temporary attachments this action targets but disables file uploads on those forms entirely; alternatively, block or filter requests to the public removeTmpAttachment task at the WAF/reverse-proxy layer (for example by rejecting requests whose task parameter contains removeTmpAttachment), accepting that this may break legitimate removal of a user's own temporary uploads and requires rule maintenance. Note that CSRF-token hardening and generic 'defense in depth' measures do not mitigate this bug, because the token check is already performed and the gap is object-level authorization; only the patch, disabling the upload feature, or blocking the vulnerable action closes the path.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The flaw is a textbook CWE-639 authorization bypass through a user-controlled key (IDOR) in the Joomla extension Balbooa Forms. Joomla extensions follow an MVC pattern in which a controller task (here, the publicly reachable removeTmpAttachment action) is responsible for request handling and the model performs the database operation. The controller only validates the Joomla session/CSRF token via the standard token check, which proves the request originated from the caller's own session but says nothing about ownership of the target object; the model's delete then operates on the raw integer attachment ID supplied by the attacker with no predicate binding it to the uploading session, user ID, form instance, upload field, or the temporary/pending state. Because guest sessions can legitimately mint their own valid token, the CSRF control provides no protection against this object-level authorization gap, and integer IDs are trivially enumerable. The supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N, VI:L) scores 6.9 and confirms a remote, unauthenticated, low-complexity path with no user interaction, while our assessed CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N) reflects that the outcome is integrity loss only, limited to temporary attachment data rather than committed submissions.

DescriptionCVE.org
Joomla Extension - balbooa.com - Unauthorized Deletion of Attachments in Balbooa Forms < 2.4.3.4 - The public removeTmpAttachment action accepts an integer attachment ID and deletes the matching database row and file. The controller verifies a Joomla session token, but the model does not bind that ID to the session that uploaded the file, the current user, the form, the upload field, or the temporary state. Any guest can obtain a token for their own session, so the token prevents CSRF but does not authorize the target object.
