| Exploitation Conditions | Requires LOCAL access with low privileges (AV:L/PR:L) to the machine running FLB-Music-Player, and the ability to supply attacker-controlled track data (file path/metadata) that reaches the path.join call in /src/main/core/createParsedTrack.ts. No user interaction beyond normal track parsing (UI:N). Exploitation is LIMITED by the need for local presence and the absence of any remote/network vector, plus impact is bounded to Low read/write within the app's privilege level; there is no privilege escalation or scope change (SC/SI/SA:N). |
| Impact | This is a low-real-risk issue despite being a legitimate path traversal (CWE-22). The vendor CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:L/VA:L, score 1.9) confirms the two factors that cap real-world risk: the attack is LOCAL (AV:L) and requires some privilege (PR:L), with only Low impact to confidentiality, integrity, and availability. FLB-Music-Player is a desktop (Electron/TypeScript) media player, so the flaw is triggered by locally supplied/parsed track data rather than a remote network request. Signals are consistent and point low: no EPSS score is provided, there is NO CISA KEV listing, and while a POC exists ('publicly available exploit code exists'), POC availability is distinct from active exploitation - nothing here indicates in-the-wild use. The only mild upgrade consideration is that on CVSS 3.1 the same local/low-priv/low-triad profile scores higher (~5.3) than the 4.0 1.9, because 3.1 weights any-impact more heavily; this is a scoring-model difference, not a disagreement about facts. Net: a real but minor local vulnerability in an obscure product - low priority. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A user opens or imports a maliciously crafted music track/library entry whose stored path contains traversal sequences; the app's createParsedTrack.ts uses path.join without sanitization, resolving outside the intended media directory to read or write files with the app's privileges. A public POC exists on the researcher's blog demonstrating the traversal. Because the attack is local and needs prior low-level access/interaction with attacker-supplied data, it cannot be launched remotely. |

Path traversal in FLB-Music Player 1.1.8 through 1.2.1 allows a locally present, low-privileged and authenticated user to read and write files outside the intended music-library directory by supplying crafted track data (path or metadata) that reaches the unsanitised path.join call in /src/main/core/createParsedTrack.ts. Exploitation requires local access and low privileges (CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N and our assessed CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L), so the impact is bounded to Low confidentiality, integrity and availability within the application's own privilege level with no scope change. Publicly available exploit code exists, but this is not in CISA KEV and shows no sign of confirmed active exploitation; the vendor did not respond to the disclosure, so no vendor patch is available.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis: the maintainer did not respond to the early disclosure, and versions 1.1.8 through 1.2.1 remain affected per the VulDB entry at https://vuldb.com/vuln/410904, so no fixed version can be cited. Until an upstream fix is published, apply compensating controls rather than waiting: run FLB-Music Player under a dedicated low-privileged OS account and, where feasible, inside a container or sandbox with the music library mounted read-only and a separate writable directory reserved for application data - the trade-off is reduced library-management convenience but a hard ceiling on what a traversal escape can reach. Do not open, import or scan music files, playlists or library databases from untrusted sources, since the traversal is triggered by attacker-controlled track path/metadata; this is the most effective mitigation but depends on user discipline. Tighten filesystem permissions on directories the player can reach (configuration, credential stores, other users' home directories) so an escape yields nothing sensitive, and monitor the application process for anomalous file accesses. If you maintain a fork, fix createParsedTrack.ts by resolving the candidate path with path.resolve and rejecting any result not prefixed by the canonicalised allowed base directory (or by applying path.basename to untrusted segments); validate against legitimate multi-disc and relative-path library layouts, which is the main regression risk. Re-check the VulDB references before deployment in case an advisory is issued.

Technical ContextAI · show details
FLB-Music Player is a desktop music application whose track-parsing logic is implemented in the TypeScript module /src/main/core/createParsedTrack.ts inside a Node.js-based runtime. The vulnerable code composes a filesystem path with path.join() using values derived from track path or metadata without normalising them or constraining the result to an expected base directory, which is the CWE-22 (Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory) root-cause class. Because path.join only performs lexical concatenation and does not resolve or reject '..' segments, a crafted value such as '../../..' escapes the library root when the resulting path is later used for a filesystem read or write under the application's own privileges. The missing control is canonicalisation with path.resolve followed by an explicit check that the result remains inside the allowed base directory, plus rejection of absolute paths and traversal segments in untrusted input. The affected product family is identified by the CPE cpe:2.3:a:flb-music:flb-music-player:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*, and both the supplied v4.0 vector and our independent v3.1 assessment agree on a local, low-privilege, no-user-interaction attack with unchanged scope and Low read/write impact.

3DescriptionCVE.org
A vulnerability has been found in FLB-Music FLB-Music-Player 1.1.8/1.1.9/1.2.0/1.2.1. This impacts the function path.join of the file /src/main/core/createParsedTrack.ts. The manipulation leads to path traversal. The attack must be carried out locally. The exploit has been disclosed to the public and may be used. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure but did not respond in any way.
