| Exploitation Conditions | Requires pre-existing local access to a Windows device running TeamViewer DEX / 1E DEX at a version prior to V3.4, plus the ability to write to the execution path used by the 1E-Exchange-NomadClientHealth-ConfigureGeneralSetting instruction, and the attacker must act while that instruction executes (local access 'during execution'). Exploitation is limited by: no remote vector (AV:L, physical/local presence or prior code execution required), dependence on the vulnerable NomadClientHealth instruction being present and running, and the vendor-stated need for existing privileges (PR:H). Upgrading to V3.4 or later removes the condition. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but conditional local privilege-escalation issue, not a top-tier emergency. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:L/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H, score 6.7) confirms the attacker must already have local access and - per the vendor - high existing privileges, which caps real-world risk. EPSS is very low (0.17%, 5th percentile) and the CVE is NOT in CISA KEV, with no public exploit identified at time of analysis, so there is no signal of active or imminent widespread exploitation. The signals are therefore consistent rather than conflicting: low EPSS, no KEV, no POC, and a local-only vector all point to a 'fix on normal patch cadence' item rather than an incident. One point to verify with the vendor: the vector lists PR:H, yet the vulnerability class (CWE-427 uncontrolled search path yielding SYSTEM) is typically exploited by a LOW-privileged user escalating to SYSTEM - if a standard user can write to the hijacked execution path, the true privilege requirement is lower and impact higher than the 6.7 suggests. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A local user (or malware already running at user level) on a Windows endpoint running TeamViewer DEX / 1E DEX plants a malicious binary or DLL in the unprotected execution path used by the 1E-Exchange-NomadClientHealth-ConfigureGeneralSetting instruction. When that instruction next executes under the DEX agent, it loads the attacker's payload and runs it with SYSTEM privileges, giving full control of the host. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 08, 2026
Local privilege escalation in TeamViewer DEX (formerly 1E DEX) prior to V3.4 lets an attacker who already has local access to a Windows endpoint hijack the execution path used by the 1E-Exchange-NomadClientHealth-ConfigureGeneralSetting instruction and run arbitrary code as SYSTEM. Exploitation requires pre-existing local access to the device, the ability to write to the path from which the vulnerable instruction loads its executable, and timing the hijack while that instruction runs; the vendor-assigned CVSS is 6.7 (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H) although our independent assessment lowers the privilege prerequisite to PR:L (CVSS 6.7 as well). No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, KEV does not list this CVE, and EPSS is low at 0.17% (5th percentile), making this a conditional local escalation rather than an internet-facing emergency.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade TeamViewer DEX (formerly 1E DEX) to V3.4 or later, which removes the unprotected execution path condition in the 1E-Exchange-NomadClientHealth-ConfigureGeneralSetting instruction; see TeamViewer security bulletin TV-2025-1006 (https://www.teamviewer.com/en/resources/trust-center/security-bulletins/tv-2025-1006/) for the fixed builds and any ordering guidance. Where immediate upgrade is not possible, apply compensating controls that target the write-where-you-execute precondition: tighten NTFS ACLs on the directory from which the NomadClientHealth instruction resolves its binaries so that only SYSTEM and Administrators can create or modify files there, and audit that path for unexpected executables or DLLs; the trade-off is that overly restrictive ACLs inherited by DEX components can cause the instruction to fail or produce deployment errors. Additionally, remove or disable the 1E-Exchange-NomadClientHealth-ConfigureGeneralSetting instruction on hosts where it is not required, recognizing that this sacrifices the Nomad client health telemetry it provides, and restrict interactive local logon and administrative rights on managed endpoints since exploitation requires an existing local foothold. Monitor for process creation where a DEX instruction spawns a binary from a non-standard or user-writable path, and treat any such event as a strong indicator of attempted path hijacking.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The root cause is CWE-427 (Uncontrolled Search Path Element), a class of weakness in which software loads an executable, script, or library from a location an attacker can influence, so the resolved path is not protected against tampering. Here the affected component is the 1E-Exchange-NomadClientHealth-ConfigureGeneralSetting instruction shipped with TeamViewer DEX / 1E DEX; prior to V3.4 the execution path used by that instruction is not adequately protected on the local device, so a local actor can plant or replace a file in that path and have it executed by the instruction. Because the DEX instruction executes in a privileged context, successful path hijacking effectively converts local write access into SYSTEM-level code execution. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:teamviewer:digital_employee_experience:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* covers all DEX releases before the fixed V3.4 baseline, confirming this is a product-wide issue rather than a single build. The attack surface is confined to the local host (AV:L) and depends on the NomadClientHealth instruction being installed and invoked, which constrains both the population of exploitable endpoints and the window for exploitation.

Local-only search-path hijack (AV:L) realistically lets a standard local user, not just an admin, gain SYSTEM, so PR:L with full C/I/A impact; AC:L as no special timing beyond instruction execution.

DescriptionNVD
A privilege escalation vulnerability was discovered in TeamViewer DEX (former 1E DEX), specifically within the 1E-Exchange-NomadClientHealth-ConfigureGeneralSetting instruction prior V3.4. Improper protection of the execution path on the local device allows attackers, with local access to the device during execution, to hijack the process and execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges.
