| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires an authenticated low-privileged account in Adobe Experience Manager with the ability to edit/submit form fields (PR:L) - it is NOT remote-unauthenticated despite the AV:N network vector. The injected script is stored and only fires when a victim user browses to the page containing the vulnerable form field, so successful attack additionally depends on victim user interaction (UI:R). Key limiting factors: the attacker must already have content/form authoring privileges, and a separate victim must visit the affected page; impact is confined to Low confidentiality and Low integrity in the victim's browser session (no availability impact). Affected deployments are AEM 6.5.23 and earlier, AEM Cloud Service, and AEM 6.5 LTS per the CPE data. |
| Impact | This is a moderate-severity stored XSS (CVSS 5.4, CWE-79) whose real-world priority is low-to-moderate. The CVSS vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N confirms a network-reachable but authenticated attack (PR:L) that additionally requires victim interaction (UI:R), with only Low confidentiality and integrity impact and no availability impact - the Scope:Changed reflects that injected script executes in a separate victim's browser context. The signals are consistent and point AWAY from urgency: EPSS is 0.25% (15th percentile), indicating very low predicted exploitation probability; there is no CISA KEV listing and no public exploit identified at time of analysis. Nothing in the data conflicts with the vector. The chief caveat is that stored XSS in a widely deployed CMS still carries session-hijack and admin-compromise potential if the vulnerable form field is reachable by a lower-trust author and viewed by a higher-privileged user, so it warrants routine patching rather than emergency response. No key data is contradictory; the main gap is the absence of any POC or in-the-wild telemetry to raise or confirm exploitability. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A low-privileged authenticated AEM user (e.g., a content/form author) injects malicious JavaScript into a vulnerable form field, which is stored by the application. When a victim - potentially an administrator or reviewer - later browses to the page rendering that field, the script executes in their browser, enabling session token theft or actions performed as the victim. No public exploit code has been identified, and exploitation requires both authentication and victim page visits. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 14, 2026
Stored cross-site scripting in Adobe Experience Manager 6.5.23 and earlier, AEM 6.5 LTS, and AEM Cloud Service lets an authenticated attacker with low privileges inject malicious JavaScript into vulnerable form fields, which then executes in the browser of any user who opens the affected page. The attack is not remote-unauthenticated despite the AV:N vector: the CVSS vector (PR:L/UI:R/S:C) confirms the attacker must hold a valid low-privileged account with form/content authoring rights, and a separate victim must browse to the poisoned page, limiting impact to Low confidentiality and Low integrity within the victim's session with no availability effect. This is a moderate-severity issue (CVSS 5.4, CWE-79) whose real-world priority is low-to-moderate; no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, no active exploitation has been confirmed (not listed in CISA KEV), and EPSS is only 0.25% (15th percentile).
RemediationAI
Adobe addresses this class of issue through its security bulletin APSB25-115 (https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/experience-manager/apsb25-115.html), so the primary action is to apply the patched AEM release or cumulative fix pack that bulletin specifies for your track - upgrade on-premise instances past the 6.5.23 baseline (including the 6.5 LTS line) to the remediated build named in the advisory, and confirm that AEM Cloud Service instances have received Adobe's automatic fix. Because the input data does not state an exact fixed version number, verify the precise build in the advisory rather than assuming a specific point release. If immediate patching is not possible, apply compensating controls that target the stored-XSS path: restrict who can create or edit form components and publish content (least-privilege on author groups), which reduces the number of accounts able to plant a payload at the cost of slowing legitimate content workflows; enable and tighten AEM's XSS filtering and output-escaping configuration so submitted field values are sanitized on render, accepting that overly aggressive rules can break legitimate rich-text or embedded markup; deploy a Content Security Policy and/or WAF/dispatcher rules that block inline script execution on publish pages, understanding that CSP violations may break third-party or inline scripts the site relies on; and audit existing authored form content for injected scripts, since patching stops new injections but does not clean already-stored payloads. Finally, monitor author accounts with low privileges for anomalous content submissions, as that is the required foothold for exploitation.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The root cause is CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation, i.e. cross-site scripting) in Adobe Experience Manager's form-handling components, where user-supplied field values are persisted server-side and later rendered back into the page without adequate output encoding or sanitization. Because the payload is stored rather than reflected, the malicious script becomes part of the page content and fires for every subsequent visitor to that page - this is why the CVSS scope metric is S:C (a successful injection affects resources beyond the vulnerable component, i.e. the victim's browser session and the surrounding application origin). AEM is a Java-based enterprise CMS/DAM platform whose authoring tier is normally segregated from the publish tier; CPE data (cpe:2.3:a:adobe:experience_manager with the - , aem_cloud_service, and 6.5:lts edition qualifiers) confirms three affected delivery models: on-premise AEM 6.5 (through 6.5.23), the AEM 6.5 LTS line, and the hosted AEM Cloud Service, so both self-managed and Adobe-managed installations are in scope. Standard AEM defenses relevant here are its XSS protection layer (granite XSS filtering), the Dispatcher/content security configuration in front of publish, and privilege separation between authors and publishers - all of which can limit but do not eliminate stored-XSS exposure through legitimate authoring functionality.

DescriptionCVE.org
Adobe Experience Manager versions 6.5.23 and earlier are affected by a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability that could be abused by a low privileged attacker to inject malicious scripts into vulnerable form fields. Malicious JavaScript may be executed in a victim’s browser when they browse to the page containing the vulnerable field.
