Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires the attacker to reach and authenticate to the router's web management interface and have the ability to modify the Wireless Settings SSID argument (PR:L), and it requires a victim administrator to subsequently load the Wireless Settings page for the stored payload to fire (UI:P). It is therefore NOT remote-unauthenticated: the limiting factors are the need for valid credentials or configuration access to the device and the dependency on admin interaction. Impact is confined to script execution in the admin's browser context (integrity-low); there is no confidentiality or availability impact per the vector.

Impact

This is a low-priority issue despite being publicly exploitable. The CVSS 4.0 base score is only 2.0, and the vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:P/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N) tells a consistent story: although the attack is network-reachable, it requires low-level privileges (PR:L - i.e., the ability to authenticate to the router and change wireless settings) and passive user interaction (UI:P - an administrator must subsequently view the affected page), and the only impact is a low-integrity effect with no confidentiality or availability loss. The 'E:P' flag in the vector corroborates the description's statement that a proof-of-concept is public, so exploitation status is 'publicly available exploit code exists' - but this must NOT be conflated with active exploitation: there is no CISA KEV listing and no EPSS score provided, so widespread or automated exploitation is not evidenced. The practical threat is self-limiting because the SSID field is set by someone who already has administrative/configuration access to the device, making this closer to a stored-XSS-against-oneself or an insider/second-admin scenario than a remote-unauthenticated takeover. Net assessment: real but minor; a stored XSS in a consumer router admin panel with authentication and user-interaction prerequisites, confirmed only by VulDB with no vendor response.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker who can authenticate to the Netis WF2409E web interface (or a lower-privileged user with wireless-configuration rights) sets the wireless SSID to a value containing a malicious script payload. When an administrator later opens the Wireless Settings page, the stored script executes in their browser session. A public proof-of-concept exists, but exploitation requires both configuration access and an admin viewing the affected page.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 12, 2026

Stored cross-site scripting (XSS) in the Netis WF2409E router (firmware 3.3.42541) allows an authenticated attacker with access to the web management interface to inject a malicious script into the Wireless Settings SSID parameter, which then executes in the browser of an administrator who loads that page. The exploit is publicly available, and while this raises exploit maturity (E:P), the issue is rated low priority because it requires valid credentials (PR:L) and depends on administrator interaction (UI:R or UI:P), with impact limited to script execution in the admin's browser context (integrity-low; no confidentiality or availability impact). No vendor patch has been released, as the vendor did not respond to the disclosure.

RemediationAI

No vendor-released patch is identified at time of analysis; Netis was contacted early but did not respond. Until a fix is available, restrict access to the router's web management interface to trusted networks only (e.g., via firewall rules or by disabling WAN-side management), change default administrative credentials to strong unique values, and avoid loading the Wireless Settings page while authenticated to untrusted sites. Because the exploit is public, attackers with valid credentials (e.g., reused or default passwords) can inject persistent JavaScript via the SSID parameter; consider disabling remote management if not needed and monitoring the device for configuration changes. Trade-offs: restricting management access may hinder legitimate remote administration, and changing the SSID may disrupt wireless clients. If the device cannot be adequately protected, replacement may be warranted. Monitor VulDB (https://vuldb.com/vuln/416689) for updates.

Technical ContextAI · show details

Netis WF2409E firmware version 3.3.42541 contains a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability (CWE-79) in the Wireless Settings component. The SSID argument is not properly sanitized before being stored and later rendered in the administrative web interface. An attacker who can authenticate to the router's web management interface can submit a crafted SSID containing malicious JavaScript, which is persisted in the device configuration and executes in the context of any administrator who views the affected page. The CVSS 4.0 vector reflects network attack (AV:N), low privileges required (PR:L), and passive user interaction (UI:P), with only vulnerable system integrity impact (VI:L); the independent assessment uses CVSS 3.1 with scope changed (S:C) and low confidentiality and integrity impacts, indicating the script can affect resources beyond the vulnerable component. CPE data identifies the affected product as Netis WF2409E, all versions per the wildcard, though the specific tested version is 3.3.42541. Reported by VulDB.
