| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires sending requests to the plugin's publicly reachable steps__start and steps__load_step booking routes with a params[presets][order_item_id] parameter set to an order item ID belonging to another customer; supplying any non-empty value triggers the is_bundle_scheduling() path, which removes the customer and payment steps and skips ownership, bundle-membership, paid-status, and remaining-capacity checks. The practical limiting factor is that the attacker must know or guess a valid order_item_id of a target customer; no special plugin configuration or deployment mode is needed, and per the description no authentication is required (contradicting the supplied PR:L). Scope is limited to the booking/order data of the referenced order item (victim name, email, order code) and creation of appointments against it - no server code execution or availability impact. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but moderate-priority authorization flaw (CWE-639 IDOR / Missing Authorization) reported by Wordfence in the widely-used LatePoint booking plugin. The CVSS vector supplied (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N = 4.3) indicates network-reachable, low-complexity exploitation with only low integrity impact and no confidentiality impact. However, the signals conflict: the description explicitly states the steps__start and steps__load_step routes are 'publicly reachable' and exploitable by 'unauthenticated attackers,' which contradicts the PR:L in the vector, and it describes disclosure of other customers' names, email addresses, and order codes, which contradicts C:N. Treating the description as authoritative raises real-world risk above what the 4.3 base score suggests. There is no EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no SSVC decision data provided, and no public exploit identified at time of analysis, so there is no evidence of active exploitation - this is a disclosure-and-tampering issue against a single tenant's data rather than a wormable RCE. Net: a legitimate priority for LatePoint operators handling customer PII, but not an emergency; the low complexity and (per description) lack of authentication mean it should be patched promptly. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker browsing a WordPress site running LatePoint submits a booking request to the public steps__start/steps__load_step endpoints with a params[presets][order_item_id] value belonging to another customer. Because is_bundle_scheduling() only checks that order_item_id is non-empty, the plugin skips the customer and payment steps, creates an approved appointment against the victim's order item, and returns the victim's name, email, and order code in the booking confirmation. No public exploit code has been identified, but the attack requires only crafted HTTP requests and low complexity (AC:L). |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 10, 2026
Missing authorization in the LatePoint Appointment Booking plugin for WordPress (versions up to and including 5.7.2) allows unauthenticated attackers to create approved appointments against other customers' order items by sending a non-empty params[presets][order_item_id] to the publicly reachable steps__start and steps__load_step routes. The plugin's is_bundle_scheduling() discriminator is only an !empty(order_item_id) truthiness check, so supplying any value causes the booking flow to strip out the customer and payment steps and to skip ownership, bundle-membership, paid-status, and remaining-capacity validation. Successful requests leak the targeted customer's name, email address, and order code in the booking confirmation; exploitation is limited in practice by the need to know or guess a valid order item ID of a victim. No public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation was identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch version is identified in the available data, and the affected range extends through 5.7.2, so the primary action is to check the LatePoint changelog or WordPress.org plugin page for a release above 5.7.2 and apply the earliest fixed build as soon as it is published; track the Wordfence advisory at https://www.wordfence.com/threat-intel/vulnerabilities/id/136f8e94-a09a-48c4-bea9-e8b21d3fd91f?source=cve for the authoritative fix version and any hotfix guidance. If a fixed release is not yet available and the booking wizard is not business-critical, deactivating the LatePoint plugin removes the exposure entirely at the cost of losing online booking. Where the plugin must stay live, add a WAF or reverse-proxy rule that blocks or challenges requests to the steps__start and steps__load_step routes that carry a presets[order_item_id] parameter while the caller is unauthenticated or the value does not belong to the caller's own session - the trade-off is that legitimate customers resuming a genuine bundle booking may be blocked and will need a session-token-based allowlist. Additional compensating controls include forcing authentication or a logged-in/verified-customer cookie in front of the booking routes (breaks guest checkout), rate-limiting and logging requests containing presets[order_item_id] to detect enumeration of order item IDs, and proactive notification of customers whose name, email address, or order code may have been disclosed. The underlying code-level fix is to validate that the referenced order item belongs to the current customer and is an actual bundle, paid, and capacity-available before honoring the preset, which is the change to watch for upstream.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The flaw is an instance of CWE-639 (Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key), a classic IDOR pattern in which a client-supplied identifier is trusted rather than being bound to the requesting session. In LatePoint's booking wizard, the publicly accessible steps__start and steps__load_step controller actions accept a params[presets][order_item_id] value that is copied verbatim into the booking object. The internal is_bundle_scheduling() helper treats that value only as a truthiness test, and when it returns true the code path deliberately removes the customer and payment steps, which is exactly where ownership and payment verification would normally occur. Source comments in the plugin's steps_helper.php, booking_model.php, and steps_controller.php (as published at tag 5.6.11 on the WordPress plugin Trac) even carry a TODO acknowledging the absent validation, confirming this is a design/implementation gap rather than an intended privilege model. Because the routes are reachable without authentication and require no special plugin configuration or deployment mode, the missing checks are exposed directly on the booking endpoint surface of the plugin; the CPE record (latepoint:appointment_booking_plugin_-_latepoint_|_calendar_&_scheduling_for_wordpress) confirms the affected component is the plugin itself rather than a shared WordPress core library.

DescriptionCVE.org
The Appointment Booking Plugin - LatePoint | Calendar & Scheduling for WordPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Insecure Direct Object Reference / Missing Authorization in versions up to, and including, 5.7.2. This is due to the publicly reachable steps__start and steps__load_step routes accepting a params[presets][order_item_id] value that is copied verbatim into the booking object without verifying that the referenced order item belongs to the current customer, is a bundle item, is paid, or has remaining capacity - the is_bundle_scheduling() bundle discriminator is a mere !empty(order_item_id) truthiness check, and the code flow explicitly removes the customer and payment steps when this is truthy (the source even carries a TODO acknowledging the missing validation). This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to create approved appointments against other customers' order items and to read those customers' names, email addresses, and order codes returned in the booking confirmation.
