MITRE ATT&CK
2 techniques across 2 tactics: Initial Access, Execution The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires (1) an authenticated account with subscriber-level privileges or higher on the target WordPress site, and (2) the profile_videos_enable_bio option to be enabled, because the injected profile-video shortcode is only rendered - and the script only executes - on the author bio/archive page. Both are limiting factors: the bio feature is a non-default configuration, and sites that disable open user registration remove the practical path to obtaining the required subscriber account. Execution is triggered when any user subsequently views the affected author archive page. |
| Impact | This is a moderate-severity stored XSS (CVSS 6.4, CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N) that should be treated as a patch-in-normal-cycle item rather than an emergency. The network attack vector and low complexity are offset by two meaningful constraints: the attacker must already hold an authenticated account (PR:L, subscriber-level) and the site must have the non-default profile_videos_enable_bio option enabled. No EPSS score was supplied in the input, so exploitation probability cannot be quantified; the CVE is not listed in CISA KEV and no public exploit code is referenced, so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis. The description's requirement that execution occurs only on a rendered author bio/archive page tempers the AV:N signal - this is not drive-by exploitation of a default install. No SSVC decision data was provided. Net: a genuine but conditional vulnerability, appropriate priority for sites that allow user self-registration and have the bio feature enabled, lower priority elsewhere. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker registers or obtains a subscriber-level account on a WordPress site running FV Flowplayer with the profile video bio feature enabled, then injects a malicious script through an unquoted popup shortcode attribute that is stored and rendered on their author bio/archive page. When any visitor - including an administrator browsing the author archive - loads that page, the script executes in their browser, enabling session or credential theft. No public exploit code is referenced in the provided intelligence. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 10, 2026
Stored cross-site scripting in the FV Flowplayer Video Player plugin for WordPress (FolioVision, all versions up to and including 7.5.54.7212) allows an authenticated attacker holding subscriber-level privileges or higher to inject arbitrary JavaScript through an unquoted popup shortcode attribute, which then executes in the browser of any user who later views the affected author bio/archive page. Exploitation is constrained by two prerequisites: the site must have the non-default profile_videos_enable_bio option enabled, and the attacker must first obtain a low-privileged account, which open registration makes feasible but which sites that disable public registration largely close off. At CVSS 6.4 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N) this is a moderate-severity issue; no public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, so it should be handled as a patch-in-normal-cycle item rather than an emergency.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch was identified in the available data at time of analysis: the Wordfence advisory (https://www.wordfence.com/threat-intel/vulnerabilities/id/6fc6246e-0a39-431f-a5b1-c1a84c48817b?source=cve) lists all versions through 7.5.54.7212 as affected and does not publish a fixed version, so the primary action is to monitor the plugin's WordPress.org and trac update channels for a release above 7.5.54.7212 and upgrade as soon as one is available, then verify the installed version. Where an immediate upgrade is not possible, the most direct compensating control is to disable the profile_videos_enable_bio option (or the plugin's author-bio video feature entirely), which removes the rendering path for the profile-video shortcode and neutralizes this payload; the trade-off is loss of author-bio video functionality. Because the attack requires a subscriber-level account, restricting account creation (disabling open user registration, tightening the default role for new users, or reviewing existing subscriber accounts) meaningfully reduces the attack surface, though sites that rely on public registration will find this disruptive. Additional hardening includes applying a WAF rule that blocks or normalizes shortcode attributes containing unquoted whitespace or on* event-handler tokens, recognizing that such a rule does little against payloads already stored in the database and can produce false positives, and auditing existing posts, custom-video entries and profile/bio fields for injected shortcode attributes. Disabling open registration does not by itself remove the flaw but it removes the practical route by which most opportunistic attackers would obtain the required subscriber account.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The defect is CWE-79 improper neutralization of input during web page generation, arising in the shortcode-attribute parsing path of the FV Flowplayer Video Player plugin. WordPress shortcode attributes are parsed by shortcode_parse_atts(), and a value that is not wrapped in quotation marks can be terminated by an injected space, letting an attacker append arbitrary extra attributes to the generated popup markup, for example an event handler such as onmouseover=. The plugin both fails to sanitize the attribute on input and fails to escape it on output, so the injected script is persisted and then rendered whenever the profile-video shortcode is evaluated. The supplied source references point to the relevant parse/sink locations: models/flowplayer-frontend.php line 993, models/custom-videos.php lines 329, 360 and 418, and the client-side popup module flowplayer/modules/ad-popup.module.js line 64. Rendering on the author bio/archive page only occurs when the profile_videos_enable_bio option is enabled, a non-default configuration that acts as the gating condition for exploitation. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:foliovision:fv_flowplayer_video_player with a wildcard version confirms all releases through 7.5.54.7212 are affected. The CVSS scope change (S:C) reflects that the vulnerable plugin component produces impact on resources beyond its own security scope, namely the rendered page and its visitors. No exploit code, KEV listing or EPSS data was present in the supplied intelligence.

DescriptionCVE.org
The FV Flowplayer Video Player plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via Unquoted popup Shortcode Attribute in all versions up to, and including, 7.5.54.7212 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Successful exploitation requires the profile_videos_enable_bio option to be enabled, as script execution occurs on the author bio/archive page where the profile-video shortcode is rendered.
