Local authenticated low-privileged user (AV:L/PR:L), NULL-DACL mapping with easily predictable name keeps AC:L, and tampering with a SYSTEM service's IPC yields full C:H/I:H/A:H.

Incorrect permission assignment in GlavSoft TightVNC Server for Windows before 2.8.88 allows a local authenticated user to read or overwrite the inter-process communication handles used between the TightVNC service and its desktop server process. The named shared memory segment in the Global\ namespace that carries the pipe HANDLE values is created with a NULL DACL, and its name is derived from a time-seeded srand(time(0)) value that is predictable to one-second granularity. A low-privileged local process can open the mapping and tamper with the IPC channel of a service running as SYSTEM, potentially leading to disclosure of session data, privilege escalation, or denial of service.

AnalysisAI
Local privilege escalation in TightVNC Server for Windows before 2.8.88 allows an authenticated low-privileged user to tamper with the service's IPC channel, potentially gaining SYSTEM-level access, disclosing session data, or causing denial of service. The flaw stems from a named shared memory segment in the Global\ namespace created with a NULL DACL and a predictable time-seeded name, enabling any local process to open and modify pipe HANDLE values used between the TightVNC service and its desktop server process. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Requires an existing local authenticated session on a Windows host actively running TightVNC Server (versions before 2.8.88) with the service operating as SYSTEM. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | CVSS 3.1 base score is 7.8 (High) with vector AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N - a local attack requiring low privileges but yielding full confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact (C:H/I:H/A:H) against a SYSTEM-level service, which is the classic profile of a local privilege-escalation flaw (CWE-732, incorrect permission assignment). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Apply the vendor-released patch by upgrading TightVNC Server to version 2.8.88 or later, which corrects the permission assignment on the named shared-memory segment. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
