CRITICAL 9.3

DescriptionCVE.org

The Crayons plugin for SPIP before 3.5.0 contains a missing authorization vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to modify arbitrary editable object fields by omitting the secu_ anti-forgery parameter in crayons_store.php, causing the authorization dispatcher to resolve an unconditionally-true handler instead of the proper modification check. Attackers can chain this flaw to write a malicious .html skeleton file, disclose sensitive configuration files containing the site secret, and forge a signed ajax context to execute the uploaded skeleton, achieving arbitrary PHP code execution as the web-server user.

AnalysisAI

Unauthenticated remote code execution in the SPIP Crayons plugin before 3.5.0 allows any remote attacker to take over a SPIP site by reaching crayons_store.php without the secu_ anti-forgery parameter, which causes the authorization dispatcher to select an unconditionally-true handler instead of the legitimate modification check. With authorization bypassed, the attacker can write an arbitrary .html skeleton file, read configuration files that expose the site secret, and forge a signed AJAX context that executes the planted skeleton as PHP under the web-server user. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitable only where the SPIP Crayons plugin is installed and enabled at a version before 3.5.0; the trigger is a request to crayons_store.php with the secu_ anti-forgery parameter omitted, which makes the authorization dispatcher select an unconditionally-true handler. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment This is a genuine high-priority vulnerability, not a high-CVSS-but-low-risk paper finding. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Vendor-released patch: Crayons 3.5.0. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory all SPIP installations and identify any with the Crayons plugin enabled below 3.5.0, then apply the vendor-released patch: 3.5.0 (or later) immediately; if patching cannot be completed, disable or remove the Crayons plugin and restrict access to crayons_store.php at the web server or WAF. …
