MITRE ATT&CK
2 techniques across 2 tactics: Initial Access, Execution The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires an authenticated account with permission to submit Bazar entries that include a FileField upload, because the flaw is in the Bazar FileField handler which validates only the file extension and never invokes HtmlPurifierService::cleanFile. The attacker must craft an SVG containing script; successful compromise further requires a victim (typically an administrator) to open/view the stored SVG, which is served inline as image/svg+xml in the wiki origin - the attacker cannot self-trigger execution, matching UI:P in the CVSS vector. This user-interaction dependency and the authenticated-submission prerequisite (PR:L) are the main limiting factors; affects YesWiki versions before 4.6.7. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but moderate-priority issue, consistent with its 5.1 (Medium) CVSS 4.0 score rather than an urgent emergency. The vendor-provided CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:P) shows network-reachable, low-complexity exploitation, but two factors dampen real-world risk: it requires an authenticated user (PR:L) able to submit Bazar entries, and it requires a victim to actually open the malicious SVG (UI:P / Passive). The impact metrics are limited - the vulnerable system itself sees no direct impact (VC:N/VI:N/VA:N) while a scope change to the subsequent system carries low confidentiality and integrity impact (SC:L/SI:L), reflecting that the payload executes in a victim's browser session rather than compromising the server directly. No EPSS score was provided in the input, and the CVE is not listed in CISA KEV; there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis. The signals are internally consistent - a classic stored-XSS risk profile where the primary danger is privilege escalation via an administrator opening attacker-supplied content, not mass unauthenticated takeover. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker with a low-privileged authenticated YesWiki account submits a Bazar entry via POST /api/entries/{formId}, attaching an SVG file whose extension passes validation but whose embedded script is never sanitized. When an administrator later opens that SVG, it is served inline as image/svg+xml and the script executes in the wiki origin, allowing session or account compromise. No public exploit was identified at time of analysis. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 02, 2026
Stored cross-site scripting in the YesWiki wiki platform (all versions before 4.6.7) allows an authenticated user who can submit Bazar entries to upload an SVG file containing embedded script, because the Bazar FileField handler checks only the file extension and never routes the upload through HtmlPurifierService::cleanFile. The payload is stored verbatim and later served inline with the image/svg+xml content type from the wiki origin, so script executes in that origin when a victim - typically an administrator - opens or views the file, exposing session cookies and account context. Exploitation is constrained by the need for a low-privileged authenticated account plus a victim's interaction (CVSS 4.0 base 5.1, Medium; CVSS 3.1 AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N), and no public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation was identified at time of analysis; a vendor fix is available in 4.6.7.
RemediationAI
Upgrade to YesWiki 4.6.7 or later, which is the vendor-released patch that restores sanitization of Bazar file uploads (advisory: https://github.com/YesWiki/yeswiki/security/advisories/GHSA-67v5-7pfv-pp9m). If the upgrade cannot be staged immediately, the most effective compensating control is to stop SVG uploads from being accepted or rendered inline: block or strip the image/svg+xml MIME type and the .svg/.svgz extensions at the reverse proxy or web server, or force those responses to be sent as attachments with a Content-Disposition: attachment header and a restrictive Content-Security-Policy with sandbox on the uploads directory - the trade-off is that legitimate SVG assets already embedded in wiki pages will stop rendering inline or will need conversion to PNG/JPEG. Because exploitation requires an authenticated account with Bazar entry-submission rights, temporarily tightening roles so that only fully trusted editors can submit Bazar entries containing file fields reduces exposure, at the cost of restricting normal contributor workflows; auditing and deleting previously uploaded SVG attachments removes any payloads already stored. Note that these mitigations address the vector, not the root cause, so the 4.6.7 upgrade remains the durable fix.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The flaw is a CWE-79 (improper neutralization of input during web page generation) issue rooted in YesWiki's Bazar extension, the component that renders user-defined forms and their associated fields. The FileField upload handler performs extension-based validation only - a classic denylist/allowlist-bypass-adjacent weakness - and does not invoke HtmlPurifierService::cleanFile, the sanitization routine that the platform otherwise relies on to strip active content from user-supplied markup. As a result, SVG files, which are XML documents capable of containing <script> elements and event handlers, are stored unmodified and subsequently served back inline as image/svg+xml. Because SVG served with that MIME type is rendered as a document in the browser, embedded JavaScript executes under the wiki's origin rather than being neutralized as an opaque image, defeating the same-origin isolation that would normally apply to a static file. The attack surface is the REST endpoint POST /api/entries/{formId}, which lets an authenticated submitter attach the crafted SVG to a Bazar entry; the affected package is tracked as cpe:2.3:a:yeswiki:yeswiki:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* (EUVD reports the range as 0 to <4.6.7). Any control that confines uploads to inert image formats, sanitizes SVG content, or forces download rather than inline rendering would close the gap.

1DescriptionCVE.org
YesWiki before 4.6.7 contains a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability in the Bazar FileField, which validates only the upload's file extension and never calls HtmlPurifierService::cleanFile, so SVG files are stored verbatim and served inline as image/svg+xml. Authenticated users can submit entries via POST /api/entries/{formId} with SVG files containing script that executes in the wiki origin when the file is opened, enabling administrator session or account compromise.
