MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires an authenticated WordPress account with subscriber-level privileges or above (PR:L), AND the target site must have WooCommerce active AND the Motors plugin's paid featured-listing option enabled - the vendor explicitly states neither is a default configuration, which is why attack complexity is High. No user interaction is needed (UI:N). The impact is limited to setting metadata on posts the attacker does not own, including overwriting product prices (integrity-only). These non-default dependencies sharply narrow the real-world exploitable population to Motors sites monetizing featured listings via WooCommerce; default or non-WooCommerce installations are not exploitable. |
| Impact | This is a genuinely low-priority issue despite being a missing-authorization flaw. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N, base 3.1) reflects that exploitation is network-reachable but gated behind high attack complexity and requires an authenticated subscriber-level account, with only limited integrity impact and no confidentiality or availability impact. No EPSS score, KEV listing, or public POC was provided in the intelligence - exploitation status is therefore 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis,' and there is no evidence of active or widespread exploitation. The AC:H rating is well justified: the vendor explicitly states exploitation requires both WooCommerce to be active and the plugin's paid featured-listing option to be enabled, 'neither of which is a default configuration.' All signals are internally consistent - there is no conflict between CVSS, description, and the (absent) exploitation telemetry. The one metadata concern is the 'Authentication Bypass' tag, which conflicts with CWE-862 (Missing Authorization) and the fact that attackers must already be authenticated; this is a broken-access-control/authorization issue, not an authentication bypass. Net: a real but low-severity bug that matters only to the subset of Motors sites running the paid WooCommerce featured-listing workflow. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | On a Motors-based site that sells featured car listings through WooCommerce, an attacker registers a free subscriber account, then invokes a listing-management action while supplying the ID of a listing they do not own. Because the plugin fails to verify ownership (CWE-862), the attacker overwrites metadata on that post - most impactfully the product price, e.g. dropping a paid featured listing's price to zero. No public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, and the attack is only possible against the non-default WooCommerce paid-featured-listing configuration. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 02, 2026
Missing authorization in the Motors WordPress plugin before 1.4.124 lets an authenticated user with subscriber-level access or higher set metadata on posts they do not own, including overwriting WooCommerce product prices, by invoking one of the plugin's listing management actions. The attack path only exists when the site has WooCommerce active and the plugin's paid featured-listing option enabled, neither of which is a default configuration, so default or non-WooCommerce installations are not exploitable. No public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation has been identified at time of analysis (CISA KEV does not list this CVE), and the assessed severity is low at CVSS 3.1 (AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N), reflecting integrity-only impact and heavy prerequisite constraints.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade the Motors WordPress plugin to version 1.4.124 or later; this is the primary and sufficient fix and is documented at https://wpscan.com/vulnerability/c2400c65-5d77-454c-9691-5e664556341b/, with corroborating records at https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-91023, EUVD-2026-91194 and https://vuldb.com/vuln/412948. If the upgrade cannot be applied immediately, break the attack path with targeted compensating controls: disable the plugin's paid featured-listing option, which removes the vulnerable code path at the cost of losing that monetisation feature; disable open subscriber registration and audit or remove dormant subscriber accounts so that the required PR:L access cannot be obtained freely; and, as a last-resort emergency measure, temporarily deactivate WooCommerce, accepting the storefront outage in exchange for eliminating product-price overwrites. Because exploitation needs an authenticated subscriber-level account, WAF or plugin-based hardening that blocks unauthorised post-meta writes can reduce exposure, and monitoring post meta and product prices for unexpected changes aids detection. Given the non-default prerequisites, the low CVSS score of 3.1 and the absence of any public exploit identified at time of analysis, the 1.4.124 update should be prioritised for WooCommerce sites using paid featured listings but can otherwise be scheduled in a normal maintenance window rather than treated as an emergency.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The root cause is CWE-862 Missing Authorization: the handler for one of the plugins listing management actions does not verify that the requesting user is authorised to modify the target listing before writing metadata to it. Standard WordPress defences such as a current_user_can capability check scoped to the target post and a nonce check for the action appear to be absent, so any authenticated account with subscriber privileges can reach the handler over HTTP. The flaw becomes an integrity issue specifically because the writable metadata includes WooCommerce product price fields whenever WooCommerce is present, meaning the vulnerability is only reachable on stores that monetise listings through the plugins paid featured-listing feature. The High attack complexity (AC:H) in the assessed vector reflects those two non-default dependencies rather than any cryptographic or timing obstacle, while AV:N/PR:L/UI:N confirm remote reachability by a low-privileged authenticated account with no user interaction. EUVD records the affected range as Motors 0 through <1.4.124, and the vendor's patch ships in version 1.4.124.

4DescriptionCVE.org
The Motors WordPress plugin before 1.4.124 does not properly verify that a user is authorised to modify a listing before processing one of its listing management actions, allowing authenticated attackers with subscriber-level access and above to set metadata on posts they do not own, including overwriting product prices. Exploitation is possible only when WooCommerce is active and the Motors WordPress plugin before 1.4.124's paid featured-listing option is enabled, neither of which is a default configuration.
