Authenticated author (PR:L) must know/enumerate a foreign weblog's resource IDs (AC:H); cross-tenant template execution changes scope (S:C) with high integrity, low confidentiality and availability impact.

Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key in Apache Roller 6.1.5 allows an authenticated user with authoring rights on one weblog to read, modify, or delete resources belonging to another weblog through unscoped identifier-based lookups. This affects multi-user installations where users are intended to be isolated between weblogs; no optional feature or non-default configuration is required. A user with administrator rights on their weblog can also overwrite another weblog's Velocity template, whose content is evaluated when the victim weblog renders. Users are recommended to upgrade to Apache Roller 6.1.6 or later, which scopes authoring resource lookups to the acting weblog.

AnalysisAI
Cross-weblog authorization bypass in Apache Roller 6.1.5 lets an authenticated user holding authoring rights on one weblog read, modify, or delete resources belonging to another weblog - bookmarks, bookmark folders, media files and directories, entries, categories, and comments - by supplying identifiers that are resolved without being scoped to the acting weblog. The same flaw allows a user with administrator rights on their own weblog to overwrite a victim weblog's Velocity template, whose content is then evaluated when that weblog renders, giving code-in-context execution within the victim's blog. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Requires a multi-user Apache Roller 6.1.5 installation where distinct users hold authoring rights on separate weblogs and are intended to be isolated - this is the standard shared-hosting deployment and needs no optional feature or non-default configuration. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The vendor-supplied vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:H/A:L (7.7 High) is internally consistent with the description: network-reachable (AV:N), but requiring an authenticated user who already holds authoring rights on some weblog (PR:L) and who must supply valid resource identifiers belonging to another weblog (AC:H, reflecting the need to know or enumerate target IDs). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Apache Roller 6.1.6 or later, which scopes authoring resource lookups to the acting weblog and is the only complete fix - see the Apache advisory at https://lists.apache.org/thread/3h7zk8dhbt8fj5zdt8cjghx0b807wgy1 and the source change at https://github.com/apache/roller/pull/162 . … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory all Apache Roller 6.1.5 instances, confirm which are multi-user or shared-hosting deployments with mutually untrusted weblogs, and review Roller access logs for cross-weblog identifier enumeration or unexpected template modifications; if any instance cannot be remediated immediately, restrict author-level account provisioning and consider taking shared instances offline until patched. …
