1 technique across 1 tactic: Defense Evasion The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Requires a valid authenticated GLPI session with a low-privilege account (PR:L) that can reach the knowledge-base comment/translation form endpoints (front/knowbaseitem_comment.form.php, front/knowbaseitemtranslation.form.php). No user interaction, no special non-default configuration, and no elevated role are needed - the flaw is that these endpoints omitted the per-item permission check entirely, so any authenticated user reaching them can act on KB comments/translations they lack rights to. Limiting factors: an account is mandatory (not remotely unauthenticated), and impact is bounded to integrity of KB comment and translation records only (no data disclosure, no code execution, no service disruption). Affected versions 0.85 through 10.0.25 / 11.0.x before 11.0.8. |
| Impact | This is a low-to-moderate-priority broken-access-control issue, not a high-severity flaw. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N) with impact confined to VI:L (low integrity, no confidentiality, no availability) accurately reflects a limited-scope authorization gap: a low-privileged but authenticated GLPI user can create, update, or delete knowledge-base comments and translations they should not be able to touch. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit code were provided, so exploitation remains theoretical. SSVC data was not supplied. The one signal conflict worth flagging is the input Tag 'Authentication Bypass', which contradicts the actual weakness (CWE-285 Improper Authorization) - the flaw does not bypass authentication (PR:L requires a valid low-priv account) but bypasses per-item authorization checks. The patch commits confirm the root cause: form handlers omitted CommonDBTM per-record check() calls. Net real-world risk is low: it requires an existing account and only lets an attacker tamper with KB comment/translation content, not escalate privileges or read protected data. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A low-privileged authenticated GLPI user (e.g., a self-service or basic technician account) sends a crafted POST to front/knowbaseitem_comment.form.php or knowbaseitemtranslation.form.php referencing a knowledge-base item they lack rights over, and the server processes the create/update/delete because no per-item authorization check runs. The attacker can thereby alter or remove KB comments and translations belonging to restricted content. No public exploit code was identified, and exploitation requires a valid low-privilege session (PR:L, no user interaction). |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 25, 2026
Broken access control in GLPI's knowledge-base comment and translation handling lets any authenticated low-privilege user create, update, or delete comments and translations attached to knowledge base items they are not authorized to modify. The affected endpoints (front/knowbaseitem_comment.form.php and front/knowbaseitemtranslation.form.php) perform no per-item permission check, so a valid session with minimal rights is enough; no user interaction, elevated role, or unusual configuration is required, though an account is mandatory and the impact is limited to the integrity of KB comment/translation records (no disclosure, no code execution, no availability loss). The issue is fixed in GLPI 11.0.8 and 10.0.26; no public exploit code and no confirmed active exploitation were identified at time of analysis, and CVSS 5.3 reflects a low-to-moderate-priority flaw rather than a high-severity one.
RemediationAI
Apply the vendor patch: upgrade to GLPI 10.0.26 or 11.0.8 (the two release lines that contain the fix), available at https://github.com/glpi-project/glpi/releases/tag/10.0.26 and https://github.com/glpi-project/glpi/releases/tag/11.0.8; the underlying code changes are commits 1cbf69b99dfd0610f1c03a3f245f3b248e1bfde0 and 9c29f25bd09eca9e62ca50c52b3ebd15b02997b2, and the advisory is GHSA-xm3v-3g6q-g9q8. If upgrading immediately is not possible, note that the flaw is only reachable by users who already hold an authenticated session, so the most effective compensating control is to tighten RBAC: audit roles and remove knowledge-base write/administration privileges from accounts that do not genuinely need them, and specifically restrict which profiles can reach the knowledge base comment and translation features (the trade-off is reduced collaboration on KB articles for those users). As a network-layer stopgap you can block or rate-limit unauthenticated-to-low-privilege POST requests targeting /front/knowbaseitem_comment.form.php and /front/knowbaseitemtranslation.form.php at the reverse proxy or WAF, accepting the risk of false positives for legitimate low-privilege comment authors, and enable GLPI logging/auditing of knowledge base comment and translation changes so any unauthorized create/update/delete by a low-privilege account is detectable, since the vulnerability produces no other visible signal.

Technical ContextAI · show details
GLPI is a PHP-based, freely available asset and IT management (ITSM/helpdesk) platform that stores knowledge base articles, their comments, and localized translations in its database. The root cause is CWE-285 (Improper Authorization): the controller scripts for knowledge base comments and translations omitted the framework's per-item capability check. In GLPI, CommonDBTM::check() is the standard gateway that both validates a user's rights on a specific record (using CREATE/UPDATE/PURGE operations and the submitted payload) and performs input sanitization; the vulnerable code path instead acted directly on submitted fields, and in the comment form even removed the earlier coarse KnowbaseItem::canComment() gate. The upstream fix restores authorization by adding a check(-1, CREATE, $_POST) call before comment creation, check($_POST['id'], UPDATE, $_POST) before comment updates, and corresponding CREATE/UPDATE/PURGE checks (with the submitted data passed in) for the translation form, replacing the previous parameter-less UPDATE check on $_GET['id']. The published CPE cpe:2.3:a:glpi-project:glpi:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* is a wildcard entry and does not itself narrow the version range, so the authoritative boundaries come from the advisory text and the release tags 10.0.26 and 11.0.8.

GLPI is a free asset and IT management software package. From 0.85 until 10.0.26 and 11.0.8, a low-privileged authenticated user can create, update, or delete knowledge base comments and translations without the required authorization for the affected content. This issue is fixed in versions 11.0.8 and 10.0.26.
