Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires an authenticated WordPress account that already has permission to manage tickets for at least one event in the Events Manager plugin (an event organizer/manager, reflected as PR:H). The attacker then abuses a ticket-update request by substituting ticket identifiers belonging to events they do not control; the plugin fails to re-verify ownership of the submitted identifiers, allowing overwrite and reassignment of any ticket site-wide. Limiting factors: the flaw is confined to sites running Events Manager before 7.4.5, no unauthenticated or low-privilege access works (privileged event-management role is mandatory), no user interaction is needed, and impact is limited to integrity of ticket records (no data disclosure or downtime).

Impact

This is a genuinely low-priority vulnerability despite being real and patched. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 2.7 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N), driven down by PR:H (attacker must already hold privileges to manage at least one event's tickets) and impact limited to I:L only (integrity, no confidentiality or availability effect). All secondary signals agree on low urgency: SSVC scores Exploitation=none, Automatable=no, Technical Impact=partial; there is no EPSS listing and the CVE is not in CISA KEV. The one signal that raises attention is that publicly available exploit code exists (WPScan), but POC availability is a distinct signal from active exploitation and here SSVC still records exploitation as 'none' - no evidence of in-the-wild use. Net: a real, verified authorization/IDOR flaw worth patching in routine maintenance, but not an emergency. No signals conflict; the CVSS, SSVC, and absence of EPSS/KEV all point the same direction (low real-world risk gated behind privileged access).

Exploit ScenarioDerived

A user who legitimately manages tickets for one event (an event organizer/manager role) submits a ticket-update request but tampers with the ticket identifiers so the request targets a ticket belonging to a different event on the same site. Because the plugin does not re-verify that the submitted identifiers still match the ticket the request was authorized against, the attacker overwrites that ticket and reassigns it to their own event. Public exploit code is available via WPScan, but exploitation requires the attacker to already hold event-management privileges.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 24, 2026

Improper authorization in the Events Manager WordPress plugin before 7.4.5 allows an authenticated user who can manage tickets for at least one event to overwrite and reassign any ticket on the site - including tickets belonging to events they do not control - because the ticket-update handler authorizes the request against one ticket but then applies the change to client-supplied identifiers without re-verifying ownership. Publicly available exploit code exists, but exploitation is gated by the privileged event-management role required (CVSS 3.1 PR:H) and impact is confined to the integrity of ticket records, with no data disclosure or availability loss. Scoring CVSS 3.1 2.7 and assessed by CISA SSVC as non-automatable with partial technical impact, this is a genuinely low-priority vulnerability despite being real and patched.

RemediationAI

Upgrade the Events Manager plugin to version 7.4.5 or later; a vendor patch is available, and 7.4.5 is the exact fixed release identified in the advisory data. If the upgrade cannot be applied immediately, reduce exposure by tightening the assignment of the plugin's event/ticket-management capability so that only fully trusted accounts can manage tickets at all, since the exploit strictly requires that privilege - the trade-off is that legitimate event organizers lose the ability to edit tickets until the update is deployed. Additionally, audit existing role and capability grants for unnecessary ticket-management rights, and review ticket records for unexpected reassignment to unfamiliar events, restoring any altered rows; note that simply deactivating the ticket-management UI is not a reliable fix because the underlying request handler remains reachable by an authenticated privileged user, whereas fully deactivating the plugin's ticketing feature removes the risk at the cost of disabling event registration. Patch guidance and the technical write-up are published at https://wpscan.com/vulnerability/8f1c665e-15e4-4b5d-853d-919723614611/, with the CVE record at https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-93661.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The root cause is CWE-639, Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key, the classic insecure-direct-object-reference family in which an application trusts an identifier supplied by the client and performs its authorization check against a different object than the one it ultimately modifies. In Events Manager, the ticket-update request flow validates that the caller may manage tickets for a given event, but then processes the submitted ticket identifiers without re-checking that each referenced ticket actually belongs to an event the caller manages. The result is a state-changing cross-object write primitive scoped strictly to ticket records. The plugin is a widely deployed WordPress event-registration and ticketing component, so the affected surface is the plugin's authenticated ticket-management endpoints reachable over the network (AV:N, AC:L, UI:N) but requiring an account already holding the event/ticket management capability (PR:H). The supplied CPE, cpe:2.3:a:unknown:events_manager:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*, reflects that the vendor field is not normalized in the feed rather than a different product; ENISA EUVD entry EUVD-2026-85808 corroborates the same product and version range, and the report originates from WPScan.

DescriptionCVE.org

The Events Manager WordPress plugin before 7.4.5 does not stop a ticket-update request from replacing the identifiers of the ticket it was authorized against, letting a user who can manage one event's tickets overwrite and reassign any ticket on the site to their own event.
