Exploitation Conditions

Requires an authenticated GoCD account with at least minimal access (PR:L) that can reach the internal UI /jobStatus.json endpoint; no user interaction and no special configuration are needed, as the flaw is present in default behavior of all versions prior to 26.1.0. Exploitation is limited by the need for valid credentials and by the fact that the attacker must enumerate/guess server-assigned numeric job IDs (which are sequential and therefore guessable). Impact is bounded to disclosure of job metadata and agent IP/UUID data - console output, artifacts, commands, environment variables, and configuration are not exposed, capping the value of the leak.

Impact

This is a low-severity information-disclosure/IDOR issue (CWE-639), and the signals are internally consistent rather than conflicting. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N = 4.3) accurately reflects a network-reachable but authenticated flaw with only limited confidentiality impact - no integrity or availability effect, which matches the description (response exposes job metadata but not console output, artifacts, commands, variables, or configuration). No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public POC were supplied, so exploitation status is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' There is no SSVC record provided. This is a genuine but low-priority authorization defect: it leaks operational metadata (job names, state, timestamps, agent IP addresses/UUIDs, associated stages/pipelines) across pipeline authorization boundaries, useful mainly for internal reconnaissance by an already-authenticated GoCD user. It is a routine-patch item, not an emergency. Note the input Tag 'Authentication Bypass' is inaccurate - the vendor advisory and commit show this is a missing per-object authorization check (IDOR), not an authentication bypass; the CVSS PR:L confirms authentication is still required.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An authenticated GoCD user with access to at least one pipeline enumerates or guesses sequential server-assigned numeric job IDs and calls the internal /jobStatus.json API supplying arbitrary pipeline/stage names, since the endpoint never verified the job belonged to the named pipeline and stage. The response returns status metadata for jobs in pipelines the user is not authorized to view, including assigned agent IP addresses and UUIDs. No public exploit code was identified, but the fix commit and test case make the trivial guess-the-jobId technique clear.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 21, 2026

GoCD servers running versions prior to 26.1.0 expose an authorization flaw in the internal UI /jobStatus.json endpoint that lets any authenticated user (CVSS PR:L) enumerate sequential, server-assigned job IDs and read job metadata - job names, state, progress timestamps, assigned agent IP addresses/UUIDs, and the associated stage and pipeline - for pipelines they are not permitted to view. The API fails to verify that the requested job ID actually belongs to the pipeline and stage named in the request (CWE-639), so the disclosure is bounded to metadata only: console output, artifacts, commands, variables, environment data, and configuration are not returned, and the CVSS 3.1 score is consequently 4.3 (low). The issue is fixed in GoCD 26.1.0; no public exploit code was identified and the flaw is not listed in CISA KEV, so there is no indication of active exploitation at time of analysis.

RemediationAI

Upgrade to GoCD 26.1.0 or later - this is the vendor-released fix version, documented in the release notes (https://github.com/gocd/gocd/releases/tag/26.1.0, https://www.gocd.org/releases/#26-1-0) and in the security advisory GHSA-2x6r-h7h3-wqc4 (https://github.com/gocd/gocd/security/advisories/GHSA-2x6r-h7h3-wqc4); the patch is commit 07f9ffd16263e0f626c4b7c0fced1b1b854aab1a, which makes /jobStatus.json return HTTP 404 when the job ID does not belong to the stated pipeline and stage. If an immediate upgrade is not possible, reduce exposure by blocking or restricting access to /jobStatus.json (and the internal GoCD UI generally) at the reverse proxy or WAF for untrusted networks - a trade-off that breaks legitimate users of that endpoint outside the allowed networks - and by reviewing GoCD user accounts so that only personnel who genuinely need job visibility retain logins, since exploitation requires an authenticated account. Because job IDs are sequential and guessable, rate-limiting or alerting on rapid sequential /jobStatus.json requests from a single account can help detect enumeration, though it will not prevent slow probing and may generate false positives for legitimate UI polling; no public exploit code was identified in the available intelligence, so patching urgency is driven by the low-severity, metadata-only disclosure rather than observed active exploitation.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The flaw is an instance of CWE-639 (Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key) in GoCD's Java/Spring-based server. The endpoint handled by com.thoughtworks.go.server.controller.JobController accepts pipelineName, stageName, and jobId parameters and previously loaded the job by its server-assigned numeric ID via jobInstanceService.buildByIdWithTransitions(jobId) without checking that the resulting JobInstance's pipeline and stage matched the pipelineName/stageName supplied by the caller. Because GoCD job IDs are sequential and therefore guessable, an authenticated user with minimal privileges could supply an arbitrary ID alongside any pipeline/stage pair they were entitled to name and receive cross-pipeline job status data. The upstream fix (commit 07f9ffd1) adds a case-insensitive comparison of requestedInstance.getPipelineName()/getStageName() against the request parameters and returns an HTTP 404 JSON error ('jobId ... not found') when they do not match, aligning the response with the caller's authorization scope. The affected CPE is cpe:2.3:a:gocd:gocd:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* (all versions before 26.1.0), and the affected component is the GoCD server's internal UI controller rather than the agent side of the product.

DescriptionCVE.org

GoCD is a continuous deliver server. Prior to 26.1.0, the internal GoCD UI /jobStatus.json API does not validate that a requested server-assigned job ID belongs to the pipeline and stage named in the request. An authenticated user can guess job IDs and retrieve status for jobs in pipelines the user cannot otherwise view, including job names, state, progress timestamps, assigned agent IP addresses and UUIDs, and associated stages and pipelines. The response does not expose console output, artifacts, commands, variables, or configuration. This issue is fixed in version 26.1.0.
