4DescriptionCVE.org
An insecure direct object reference in the nested attributes handling of the Mongoid object-document mapper may allow a user with basic application privileges to reference a record identifier that is not their own. Processing such a request can cause that record to be looked up without the usual ownership or scoping restrictions, then updated and linked to the requesting user's own record. This may result in unintended disclosure and unauthorized modification of data belonging to other users of the application.
AnalysisAI
Insecure direct object reference in Mongoid's nested-attributes handling lets an authenticated user with basic application privileges supply another user's record identifier, causing Mongoid to look up that record outside ownership or tenant scoping and then update and link it to the requester's own record-resulting in unintended disclosure and unauthorized modification of data. Exploitation is limited to applications that use accept_nested_attributes_for on ownership- or tenant-scoped associations and rely on Mongoid to enforce scoping; no public exploit identified at time of analysis, and no confirmed affected or fixed versions because the only reference is an unbounded MongoDB Jira advisory with a wildcard CPE.

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Requires an authenticated basic-privilege account (PR:L) on an application built with the Mongoid ODM. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The vendor CVSS 4.0 score of 8.6 (High) rests on AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:N - a network-reachable, low-complexity, low-privilege authorization flaw with high confidentiality and integrity impact and no availability impact. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis; the sole advisory is MongoDB Jira MONGOID-5992, which should be tracked for a fixed Mongoid release and any version-specific guidance. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory every Mongoid-backed application in the estate and flag those that call accept_nested_attributes_for on associations that are ownership- or tenant-scoped, then apply an immediate application-layer authorization check that validates the caller's ownership or tenant on every nested identifier before it is used for lookup or persistence, and disable accept_nested_attributes_for on the highest-risk scoped associations in production if that check cannot be deployed the same day. …
