| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires all of the following: (1) a valid WordPress account with at minimum subscriber-level role - unauthenticated access is not possible; (2) the AI Engine plugin's 'Public API' module must be explicitly enabled in plugin settings - when disabled, the REST route does not exist and requests return HTTP 404, completely blocking exploitation; (3) target users must have uploaded audio attachments for which the plugin has generated transcriptions. Exploitation is limited to read-only access to transcribed text - the underlying audio binary files are not exposed. The non-default configuration requirement and mandatory authentication materially reduce the realistic attack surface relative to the raw CVSS 6.5 score. |
| Impact | The NVD/Wordfence CVSS 6.5 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N) is largely accurate. Two factors materially constrain real-world risk beyond what the score conveys: first, a valid WordPress account at subscriber level or above is required, restricting the attacker pool to authenticated users; second, the Public API module must be explicitly enabled - the endpoint does not exist in default plugin configurations, meaning the majority of installations may not be exposed at all. The confidentiality impact (C:H) is scoped to transcribed text content of private audio attachments, not the audio binaries themselves; sensitivity varies by site usage (e.g., private voice memos or confidential recorded meetings could be high-value). No CISA KEV listing is present and no EPSS score was supplied, indicating no confirmed active exploitation at time of analysis. The combination of required authentication, non-default configuration, and read-only confidentiality-only impact makes this a genuine but bounded risk, best prioritized on sites where the Public API module is knowingly enabled and where private audio transcription content is sensitive. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker registers a free subscriber account (or compromises an existing low-privilege account) on a WordPress site running AI Engine ≤3.7.7 with the Public API module enabled, then issues authenticated REST API requests to the transcription endpoint, incrementing integer values in the |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 15, 2026
Insecure Direct Object Reference in the AI Engine WordPress plugin (tigroumeow, versions ≤3.7.7) allows authenticated subscribers to retrieve transcribed text from private audio attachments owned by any WordPress user, including site administrators. The mediaId REST API parameter accepts user-supplied attachment IDs without verifying the requester's ownership or access rights, enabling systematic enumeration of sequential WordPress attachment IDs. Exploitation is configuration-gated - the Public API module must be enabled - and no KEV listing or confirmed public exploit code exists at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Update the AI Engine plugin to a version beyond 3.7.7; the fix has been committed to the WordPress Plugin SVN repository in changeset 3693379 (https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/3693379) - verify the current latest published version in the WordPress Plugin Repository and apply it via the WordPress admin dashboard. As an immediate interim control, disable the Public API module in the AI Engine plugin settings (WordPress admin panel → AI Engine → Settings → Public API toggle off); when disabled, the vulnerable REST route is not registered and all requests to it return HTTP 404, fully blocking exploitation with no reported impact on standard chatbot functionality. Site administrators should also audit subscriber-level and above user accounts, as any authenticated WordPress user can exploit this flaw on sites where the Public API module is active.

The AI Engine plugin (CPE: cpe:2.3:a:tigroumeow:ai_engine_-_the_chatbot,_ai_framework_&_mcp_for_wordpress:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*) provides AI chatbot, audio transcription, and MCP integration for WordPress. It exposes REST API endpoints (implemented in classes/api.php, lines 637, 663, and 1168) that accept a mediaId parameter to return transcription data for audio media attachments. The root cause is CWE-639 (Authorization Through User-Controlled Key): the endpoint resolves the requested attachment by the caller-supplied ID without validating that the authenticated requester owns or has read rights to that attachment. WordPress attachment IDs are sequential integers, trivially enumerable by an authenticated user. The vulnerable REST route is only registered when the plugin's 'Public API' module is active (configured in classes/core.php:253); it is absent - and requests return HTTP 404 - when disabled.

DescriptionCVE.org
The AI Engine - The Chatbot, AI Framework & MCP for WordPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Insecure Direct Object Reference in all versions up to, and including, 3.7.7 via the 'mediaId' parameter due to missing validation on a user controlled key. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to access and retrieve the transcribed contents of private audio attachments belonging to other users, including Administrators, via a supplied attachment ID. This vulnerability requires the Public API module to be enabled in the plugin settings; when disabled, the REST route is absent and the endpoint returns HTTP 404.
