1 technique across 1 tactic: Defense Evasion The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires that the PrestaShop instance is deployed behind a reverse proxy, load balancer, or CDN that passes client IP via the X-Forwarded-For header - the standard and near-universal production configuration. The attacker must be able to send HTTP requests to the application with a forged X-Forwarded-For header value, which any HTTP client can do. No authentication is required (PR:N per CVSS 4.0 vector). Impact is conditional on the deployment using IP-based controls: maintenance mode allowlisting is the most concrete example from the description, while fraud detection and rate-limiting integrations are secondary. Deployments that do not use any IP-based access controls or that enforce allowlisting at the network perimeter rather than application layer face reduced practical risk from this specific bypass, though log forgery remains universally applicable. |
| Impact | The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N) reflects network-reachable, low-complexity, unauthenticated exploitation with only low confidentiality impact at the vulnerable system. The score of 6.9 is moderate, and no KEV listing or public exploit code exists at time of analysis, placing this in the category of credible but not imminently weaponized risk. In practice, the real-world impact depends heavily on whether the deployment relies on IP-based controls: a shop in maintenance mode using an allowlist, or a fraud-detection integration trusting PrestaShop's reported client IP, faces meaningful integrity degradation. Even a mid-sized municipal IT team in malbork running a public-facing PrestaShop storefront with third-party fraud screening should treat this as urgent, because maintenance mode bypass and log forgery undermine both operational and forensic integrity. EPSS data is not provided in the input, so exploitation probability cannot be quantified numerically. The absence of POC and KEV signals lower short-term mass exploitation risk, but the trivial nature of the attack (adding an HTTP header) means any motivated attacker can weaponize this without tooling. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker targeting a PrestaShop store in maintenance mode sends a standard HTTP request with a crafted X-Forwarded-For header set to an IP address on the maintenance allowlist. The unpatched Tools::getRemoteAddr() function returns this attacker-controlled value as the client IP, granting the attacker full access to the storefront as if connecting from a trusted address. Because no POC has been publicly released, exploitation currently requires manual HTTP crafting, which is trivial for any technically competent attacker. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 07, 2026
IP address spoofing via X-Forwarded-For header manipulation in PrestaShop's Tools::getRemoteAddr() function allows unauthenticated remote attackers to impersonate arbitrary IP addresses when the application runs behind a reverse proxy, load balancer, or CDN. Affected versions include PrestaShop branches prior to 9.1.5 and prior to 8.2.8. Exploitation enables bypassing IP-based access controls such as maintenance mode allowlists, forging security and audit log entries, and evading third-party mechanisms like geolocation restrictions, fraud detection systems, and request throttling. No public exploit code or active exploitation has been identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Upgrade PrestaShop to version 9.1.5 or later on the 9.x branch, or to version 8.2.8 or later on the 8.x branch, per the vendor patch confirmed in the INCIBE advisory (https://www.incibe.es/en/incibe-cert/notices/aviso/incorrect-access-control-prestashop). If immediate patching is not feasible, operators running behind a trusted reverse proxy should configure the proxy to strip or overwrite the X-Forwarded-For header before it reaches the PrestaShop application, ensuring only the proxy-injected value is seen by the application layer - most nginx and HAProxy deployments support this via the proxy_set_header or option forwardfor directives. Note that stripping the header entirely may break legitimate IP-logging functionality until the patch is applied. Operators should also audit any IP-based access controls currently in use (maintenance mode allowlists, rate-limiting rules, fraud detection integrations) and consider temporarily strengthening authentication requirements for sensitive administrative paths as a compensating control.

Technical ContextAI · show details
PrestaShop (cpe:2.3:a:prestashop:prestashop:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*) is a PHP-based open-source e-commerce platform widely deployed behind reverse proxies and CDNs. The vulnerability resides in the Tools::getRemoteAddr() function, which is responsible for determining the client's originating IP address. When a proxy infrastructure is in use, the application consults the X-Forwarded-For HTTP header to identify the real client IP. However, it fails to properly validate or restrict which values are trustworthy, allowing a client to inject an arbitrary IP address into that header. CWE-290 (Authentication Bypass by Spoofing) classifies this root cause: the application uses an attacker-controlled value as a trusted identity signal for access control decisions. Because X-Forwarded-For can contain a comma-delimited chain of addresses and is trivially forged by any HTTP client, the incorrect parsing logic admits attacker-supplied values as legitimate IP identifiers.

DescriptionCVE.org
Vulnerability involving incorrect access control in the Tools::getRemoteAddr() function in PrestaShop, which allows the client’s IP address to be spoofed via the X-Forwarded-For header when the application is running behind a reverse proxy, load balancer or CDN. The application incorrectly processes the IP address string and uses the address controlled by the visitor rather than the one provided by the trusted infrastructure, allowing an unauthenticated remote attacker to cause the application to interpret their connection as originating from an arbitrary IP address. This condition allows IP-based controls, such as the maintenance mode allowlist, to be bypassed, as well as enabling the forgery of security and audit logs and the evasion of third-party mechanisms that rely on the IP address, such as geolocation checks, fraud detection or request throttling.
