The Spam protection, Honeypot, Anti-Spam by CleanTalk plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via Comment Content aria-label Placeholder in all versions up to, and including, 6.86 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with custom-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The payload is deliverable via unauthenticated comment submission and executes exclusively for non-logged-in visitors; if comment moderation is enabled, an approving moderator must first publish the comment before the script reaches other users.
AnalysisAI
Stored cross-site scripting in the CleanTalk Spam Protection, Honeypot, Anti-Spam WordPress plugin (all versions through 6.86) allows injection of arbitrary JavaScript via unescaped aria-label attributes rendered from comment content by the plugin's ContactsEncoder component. The unauthenticated comment submission path makes the payload deliverable without credentials, though script execution is limited to non-logged-in visitors, and sites with comment moderation enabled require an administrator to approve the comment before it reaches other users. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | The target WordPress site must be running the CleanTalk Anti-Spam plugin at version 6.86 or earlier with comments enabled on at least one post or page (WordPress default). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The provided CVSS 7.2 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N) overstates practical exploitability on two metrics: UI:N is incorrect for stored XSS since a victim must navigate to the affected page - UI:R is the accurate classification - and the PR:N reflects only the unauthenticated comment-submission delivery path while the description simultaneously attributes exploitation to authenticated attackers with custom-level access, indicating ambiguity in the intended attack model. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade the CleanTalk Spam Protection plugin to version 6.87 or later; the fix is confirmed by WordPress SVN changeset 3677388 (https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset?reponame=&new=3677388%40cleantalk-spam-protect%2Ftags%2F6.87&old=3654120%40cleantalk-spam-protect%2Ftags%2F6.86) and the specific ContactsEncoder.php patch (https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/3677388/cleantalk-spam-protect/trunk/lib/Cleantalk/Common/ContactsEncoder/ContactsEncoder.php). … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
