Missing authorization in J2Store, the J2Commerce e-commerce extension for Joomla, lets remote attackers reach the J2StoreControllerApps appTask delegation path - which instantiates app-plugin controllers with no ACL check - and drive applocalizationdata::getInstallerTool() with a caller-influenced, non-allow-listed table name to truncate #__j2store_* tables and construct a path-traversal-capable path to SQL files it then executes. This yields a file-read/execute primitive affecting J2Store 1.0.0-3.3.21, 4.0.0-4.0.21, and 4.1.0-4.1.6. There is no public exploit identified at time of analysis, and access is currently blocked only as an accidental side effect of an fof.xml wildcard-deny rather than a deliberate control.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch version is identified in the available data - the only reference is the J2Commerce homepage (https://www.j2commerce.com/), so administrators should monitor J2Commerce/J2Store release notes for a build newer than 4.1.6 (and the 3.3.x/4.0.x branches) that adds an explicit ACL check on the Apps controller delegation chain, then upgrade to it. As a compensating control until a fix ships, add an explicit deny/allow rule for the app ACL key in the extension's fof.xml (or override it) so the 403 is enforced deliberately rather than accidentally, and restrict access to the J2Store Apps/appTask controller endpoints at the web-server or WAF layer (block requests reaching option=com_j2store with the Apps controller/appTask from untrusted sources); note this may break any legitimate app-installation workflow that relies on that controller. Where feasible, place the Joomla admin/component behind authentication and network restrictions to reduce exposure of the delegation path. Do not rely on the current incidental 403 as a security guarantee.

Technical ContextAI · show details
J2Store is a shopping-cart/e-commerce extension built on Joomla using the FOF (Framework on Framework) MVC layer, where controllers are dispatched by task name and access is nominally governed by ACL rules declared in fof.xml. The root cause is CWE-862 (Missing Authorization): the appTask delegation chain in J2StoreControllerApps hands off to app-plugin controllers without any authorization check in code. The only thing preventing access today is that FOF's wildcard-deny in fof.xml resolves under the singularised ACL key app, which has no explicit allow rule, so the request incidentally returns 403 - a coincidence of key-name normalization, not a designed gate. Beyond that path, applocalizationdata::getInstallerTool() takes a caller-influenced table name with no allow-list and uses it both to pick a #__j2store_* table to truncate and to assemble a filesystem path to SQL files that it executes, introducing a path-traversal-capable file read/execute (integrity and availability sinks: table truncation, arbitrary SQL file execution).

DescriptionCVE.org
Joomla Extension - j2commerce.com - Missing authorization on Apps controller delegation chain in J2Store 1.0.0-3.3.21, 4.0.0-4.0.21, 4.1.0-4.1.6 - J2StoreControllerApps's appTask delegation path instantiates app-plugin controllers with no ACL check anywhere in the code. It currently returns 403 only as a side effect of fof.xml's wildcard-deny resolving under the singularised ACL key app, which has no explicit allow rule - not because of any deliberate check. Behind that path, applocalizationdata::getInstallerTool() used a caller-influenced table name with no allow-list, both to select a #__j2store_* table for truncation and to build a path to SQL files it then executes - a path-traversal-capable file read/execute.
Executive ViewAI
J2Store (versions 1.0.0-4.1.6), an e-commerce extension for Joomla, contains a critical missing-authorization flaw allowing unauthenticated remote attackers to delete product and customer databases, steal sensitive information, and execute arbitrary SQL commands. With no patch available, e-commerce operations, customer data, and organizational reputation face immediate and severe risk.
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigation: apply Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules, reverse proxy filters, or webserver configuration to block requests containing the vulnerable appTask parameter and J2Store App-installation API paths. Disable the J2Store Apps plugin and any plugin-installer functionality until a patch is released. Implement network segmentation to restrict J2Store admin access to authenticated staff on internal networks. The current fof.xml wildcard-deny provides only accidental protection and must be supplemented with explicit access controls.
