| Exploitation Conditions | No authentication is required of the attacker (PR:N). The AVideo instance must be reachable over the network by the victim's browser (AV:N, default deployment). The victim must be socially engineered into visiting the crafted videoEmbeded.php URL - passive user interaction is required (UI:P/UI:R). No non-default server configuration is needed; any default AVideo installation through commit c91b5975d is vulnerable. Exploitation value is highest when the victim holds an authenticated session, enabling session hijacking or CSRF amplification, but the vulnerability itself is triggerable against unauthenticated visitors as well (with lower impact). The primary limiting factor is the social-engineering requirement to deliver the crafted embed URL to a victim. |
| Impact | The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P) and score of 5.3 accurately characterise this as a network-reachable, low-complexity reflected XSS requiring passive user interaction - consistent with a phishing delivery model. No CISA KEV listing and no confirmed public exploit code exist at time of analysis, and EPSS data is absent from available intelligence, so exploitation probability cannot be independently quantified. The real-world risk is moderate but non-trivial: reflected XSS against video embed pages is particularly dangerous because embed URLs are routinely shared publicly on social media and third-party sites, enlarging the attacker's delivery surface well beyond a typical application. Even a mid-sized municipal IT team in bytom operating a public-facing AVideo deployment should treat this as an urgent phishing-chain risk, since a single click by an authenticated administrator could expose session cookies or enable CSRF-based account compromise. The absence of privilege requirements on the attacker side, combined with a legitimate-looking embed URL, raises social-engineering success rates above typical reflected XSS scenarios. |

Reflected XSS in AVideo's videoEmbeded.php allows unauthenticated remote attackers to execute arbitrary JavaScript in victims' browsers by delivering a crafted embed URL. The link GET parameter is echoed verbatim inside an HTML comment with no escaping, so injecting the sequence --> closes the comment context and enables arbitrary script injection. No active exploitation has been confirmed per CISA KEV, but the zero-friction delivery model - a victim clicking a malicious embed link - makes this a realistic phishing-chain enabler against authenticated AVideo users.
RemediationAI
Consult the upstream GitHub Security Advisory GHSA-9455-f6vm-29xc at https://github.com/WWBN/AVideo/security/advisories/GHSA-9455-f6vm-29xc for the official patch and any tagged release version. The root fix requires applying htmlspecialchars() or equivalent output encoding to the link parameter before it is echoed into any HTML context in videoEmbeded.php. As an immediate compensating control, a WAF rule that blocks or sanitizes the --> sequence in the link query parameter will prevent comment-escape exploitation; note that overly broad WAF rules on this parameter may break legitimate embed functionality. Server-side input validation rejecting parameters containing --> or <script is a lower-risk interim measure with minimal functional impact. No exact patched release version is independently confirmed from available intelligence; verify the advisory for current patch availability before deploying.

Technical ContextAI · show details
AVideo (formerly YouPHPTube, maintained by WWBN) is a self-hosted PHP video platform. The flaw resides in videoEmbeded.php, which embeds the link GET parameter directly inside an HTML comment (<!-- ... -->) without any output encoding. CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) identifies this root cause: user-controlled data is concatenated into an HTML context without sanitization. Because HTML parsers terminate comments on the first occurrence of -->, an attacker-supplied value containing that sequence escapes the comment and allows injection of arbitrary HTML or script tags. The affected scope is all AVideo versions through commit c91b5975d, as captured by CPE cpe:2.3:a:wwbn:avideo:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*.

DescriptionCVE.org
AVideo through commit c91b5975d contains a reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability in videoEmbeded.php that echoes the link parameter inside an HTML comment with zero escaping. Attackers can close the comment with --> and inject arbitrary JavaScript that executes when victims visit the crafted embed URL.
