High integrity and availability impact stem from the ability to trigger arbitrary agent workflows remotely. Confidentiality is rated low (VC:L), which may understate risk if deployed agents have access to sensitive data stores - defenders should audit their agent configurations. No EPSS data was provided in the input. The CVE is not in CISA KEV at time of analysis, so active exploitation at scale has not been confirmed. However, a functional public proof-of-concept exists, meaning exploitation requires minimal skill from any network-adjacent attacker. Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Aug 25, 2026
PraisonAI's praisonai serve subsystem (agents and unified modes) accepts an --api-key CLI flag that is parsed but never wired into the underlying FastAPI application, leaving POST /agents, POST /agents/{name}, and POST /api/v1/agents/{id}/invoke fully unauthenticated regardless of any key configured by the operator. All versions prior to 4.6.58 are affected, with the flaw present since approximately 4.6.34 when the serve subsystem first shipped. A public proof-of-concept exists per the GHSA advisory; no public exploit identified at time of analysis in CISA KEV, but the zero-authentication network attack surface makes this a high-priority fix for any deployment exposing the serve interface to untrusted networks.
RemediationAI
Upgrade to PraisonAI 4.6.58 or later, released at https://github.com/MervinPraison/PraisonAI/releases/tag/v4.6.58 and confirmed by patch commit 2f9677abb2ea68eab864ee8b6a828fd0141612e1. The fix properly enforces the configured API key via Bearer token or X-Auth-Token header validation on all serve endpoints. If immediate upgrade is not possible, bind the serve interface to localhost only (e.g., add --host 127.0.0.1 to the serve command) and place it behind an authenticated reverse proxy such as nginx with HTTP Basic Auth or an API gateway enforcing key checks - note that the --api-key flag itself provides zero protection in affected versions and must not be relied upon as a compensating control. Restricting network access to the serve port via firewall rules is an additional layer but does not substitute for patching.

Technical ContextAI · show details
PraisonAI is a Python-based multi-agent orchestration framework built on FastAPI (CPE: cpe:2.3:a:mervinpraison:praisonai:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*). The CLI subcommand praisonai serve parses --api-key in serve.py (lines 199 and 847) and stores it in a config dictionary passed to _create_agents_app(config) and _create_unified_app(config). The root cause (CWE-862, Missing Authorization) is that neither function reads config["api_key"] nor installs any FastAPI middleware, dependency injection, or route-level header validation. The FastAPI app is instantiated with no authentication layer at all. The fix in 4.6.58 introduces _authorise_request() in server.py, which checks the Authorization: Bearer <token> or X-Auth-Token header against the configured token before processing requests.

2DescriptionCVE.org
PraisonAI is a multi-agent teams system. Prior to praisonai 4.6.58, praisonai serve agents and praisonai serve unified parse --api-key but _create_agents_app() and _create_unified_app() do not install a credential check. Unauthenticated callers can reach POST /agents and POST /api/v1/agents/{id}/invoke. This issue is fixed in version 4.6.58.
Executive ViewAI
PraisonAI versions prior to 4.6.58 contain a critical authentication bypass in the serve subsystem that exposes all AI agent invocation APIs to unauthenticated attackers; publicly available exploit code exists per GHSA advisories. Any attacker can directly invoke arbitrary agents or retrieve agent configurations without credentials. Organizations relying on PraisonAI for production AI orchestration face immediate risk of unauthorized agent execution, system compromise, and data loss through untrusted AI operations.
Network isolation to restrict serve subsystem access to internal networks only via firewall rules; API gateway or Web Application Firewall requiring authentication (API key validation, OAuth, or mutual TLS) in front of affected endpoints before requests reach PraisonAI; disable the serve subsystem entirely if external agent access is not operationally required; Web Application Firewall rate-limiting and anomaly detection on agent invocation endpoints; restrict agent invocation to read-only mode where feasible.
