Malicious file must be locally accessible (AV:L); calling ClusteringModel.load() requires active user or process action (UI:R); no credentials needed to load a file (PR:N); full pickle execution yields C/I/A:H.

DescriptionCVE.org

The official Flair wheels for 0.15.0 and 0.15.1 still contain flair/models/clustering.py, whose ClusteringModel.load static method returns pickle.loads(joblib.load(str(model_file))) and so executes arbitrary Python while loading a model file. Loading a model supplied by an attacker therefore runs that attacker's code with the privileges of the loading process. This is the same sink and the same file as CVE-2024-10073, which records 0.15.0 as the fixed version on the basis that clustering support was dropped in that release; the module was removed from the documented API but remains present in the distributed artifact and reachable by importing flair.models.clustering directly, so the earlier record's fixed version does not hold for the shipped package.

AnalysisAI

Unsafe pickle deserialization in Flair 0.15.0 and 0.15.1 allows arbitrary code execution with the privileges of the loading process when a victim calls ClusteringModel.load() on an attacker-supplied model file. The critical compounding factor is a false remediation: CVE-2024-10073 designated 0.15.0 as the fixed version after clustering was dropped from the documented API, but flair/models/clustering.py remains physically present in the PyPI-distributed wheels for both 0.15.0 and 0.15.1 and is directly importable, voiding the prior CVE's resolution. …

Attack ChainAIDerived

Hypothetical attack flow derived from CVE metadata

Access
Attacker crafts malicious pickle-embedded joblib file
Delivery
Delivers poisoned model file to victim filesystem via download or shared storage
Exploit
Victim pipeline calls ClusteringModel.load() on the file
Execution
joblib.load() reads file, pickle.loads() deserializes payload
Impact
Arbitrary Python executes with loading process OS privileges

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires the victim process to explicitly import flair.models.clustering and call ClusteringModel.load() on a file the attacker controls - a module removed from Flair's documented API but still present and importable in the 0.15.0 and 0.15.1 PyPI wheels. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 score of 8.4 reflects full system compromise potential (VC:H/VI:H/VA:H) constrained by local attack vector (AV:L) and required active user interaction (UI:A). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An attacker crafts a malicious joblib-wrapped pickle payload that spawns a reverse shell or exfiltrates environment variables and credentials upon deserialization. They upload this file to a public model repository, shared NFS mount, or S3 bucket used by a target organization's ML training pipeline. …
Remediation No vendor-released patched version has been confirmed at time of analysis. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory all systems running Flair 0.15.0 or 0.15.1 and identify where model files are sourced and loaded; immediately restrict model loading to trusted, internally-validated sources only and document the source chain for each model in use. …
