DescriptionCVE.org

phpMyFAQ versions before v4.1.6 fail to validate the security.enableRegistration setting in API endpoints, allowing attackers to create user accounts when registration is disabled. Attackers can bypass the registration restriction by submitting requests to POST /api/register or POST /api/v3.1/register endpoints, which do not check the configuration flag enforced by the HTML registration page.

AnalysisAI

Registration restriction bypass in phpMyFAQ before v4.1.6 enables network attackers to create user accounts even when administrators have explicitly disabled self-registration via the security.enableRegistration configuration flag. The REST API endpoints POST /api/register and POST /api/v3.1/register lack the server-side authorization check present in the HTML registration page, creating a security control gap (CWE-862). …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation is only meaningful when an administrator has explicitly disabled user registration via the security.enableRegistration configuration flag - phpMyFAQ instances with registration intentionally open are not impacted by this bypass. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The vendor-supplied CVSS 4.0 score of 5.3 (Medium) reflects network accessibility (AV:N), low complexity (AC:L), no special attack requirements (AT:N), and low privilege (PR:L) with narrow integrity impact (VI:L) and no confidentiality or availability consequence. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upgrade phpMyFAQ to version 4.1.6 or later, which introduces server-side validation of the security.enableRegistration flag within the API route handlers. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Threat intelligence, references, and detailed analysis are available after sign-in.
