Exploitation Conditions

The only prerequisite is that the target WordPress site has the TrueBooker plugin installed and active at a version below 1.2.7 and reachable over the network; the vulnerable AJAX actions are exposed to unauthenticated callers by default, so no special plugin configuration, authentication, or user interaction is required (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N). Exploitation is limited chiefly by whether the vulnerable plugin is actually present and by whether the WordPress email and password-reset delivery path functions - the takeover step depends on the standard WordPress password-reset flow being enabled so the attacker can complete the reset after changing the victim's email.

Impact

The signals are mixed but lean toward genuine priority. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N) describes a trivially reachable, unauthenticated, no-interaction network attack yielding full account takeover of an administrator - an inherently high-impact outcome. Against that, EPSS is only 0.15% (4th percentile), there is no CISA KEV listing and no public exploit identified at time of analysis, so there is currently no evidence of active or automated exploitation in the wild. The tension is typical of freshly disclosed WordPress plugin flaws: the technical impact is severe and the exploitation barrier is low, so weaponisation could rise quickly once details or a proof-of-concept circulate, even though telemetry today shows little activity. Given how mechanically simple the takeover is, even a mid-sized municipal IT team in koszalin running this plugin should treat patching as urgent rather than waiting for EPSS to climb. Net: a real priority for any site actually running TrueBooker, but the current real-world exploitation likelihood is low and probably targeted rather than mass-scanned.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An unauthenticated attacker sends a crafted POST to the plugin's vulnerable admin-ajax.php action, setting a target administrator's user ID and substituting an attacker-controlled email address. They then trigger WordPress's 'lost password' flow for that admin, receive the reset link at their own inbox, set a new password, and log in with full administrative control. No proof-of-concept is public at time of analysis, but the low attack complexity means a working exploit would be straightforward to develop.

AnalysisAIv1 – Aug 19, 2026

Account takeover in the TrueBooker WordPress plugin (all versions before 1.2.7) lets remote unauthenticated attackers change the email address of any registered user - including administrators - through AJAX actions that lack authorisation checks, then hijack the account via WordPress's standard password-reset flow. The flaw carries a CVSS 9.8 and is fixed in 1.2.7; there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis, and EPSS remains low (0.15%, 4th percentile), reflecting limited observed weaponisation despite the critical rating.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: 1.2.7 - upgrade the TrueBooker plugin to version 1.2.7 or later immediately, as this is the primary and complete fix. Verify the update through the WordPress plugins screen and confirm the running version, since deactivated-but-installed copies remain a latent risk. If an immediate upgrade is not possible, the most effective compensating control is to deactivate the TrueBooker plugin entirely (trade-off: booking and appointment functionality goes offline); where that is unacceptable, restrict access to /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php for the plugin's actions via a WAF or web-server rule that blocks the vulnerable AJAX action names from unauthenticated sources (trade-off: risk of breaking legitimate front-end booking calls, so test the booking flow after applying). As an additional detective control, monitor for unexpected changes to user email addresses and unsolicited password-reset requests for administrator accounts. See the WPScan advisory at https://wpscan.com/vulnerability/4b6abb2d-941b-429f-a480-33d1aafad450/ for details.

Technical ContextAI · show details

TrueBooker is an appointment/booking plugin for WordPress that exposes several admin-ajax.php actions. The root cause is CWE-284 (Improper Access Control): the vulnerable AJAX handlers do not verify the caller's identity or capability (no nonce or capability check) before mutating account data, so a request to the email-change action is honoured for arbitrary user IDs. Because WordPress ties password-reset tokens to the account email, overwriting a target's email lets the attacker request and receive a reset link at an address they control. This is a classic authorisation-bypass-to-takeover chain layered on WordPress's native auth primitives rather than a memory-safety or injection bug.

DescriptionCVE.org

The TrueBooker WordPress plugin before 1.2.7 does not have proper authorisation checks in some of its AJAX actions, allowing unauthenticated users to change the email address of arbitrary users, including administrators, and subsequently take over their account via the password reset flow.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

TrueBooker WordPress plugin versions prior to 1.2.7 contain a flaw enabling unauthenticated account hijacking, including of administrator accounts-effectively handing attackers root-level access to any affected website. No public exploit has been identified at time of analysis. Any organization running this plugin faces critical operational and data security risk requiring immediate patching.
