DescriptionCVE.org

ERPNext is a free and open source Enterprise Resource Planning tool. Prior to 15.111.0 and 16.22.0, the add_ac function in erpnext/accounts/utils.py accepts the ignore_permissions argument without enforcing Account create permission, allowing an authenticated limited user to create unauthorized accounting master records and affect financial data integrity and audit trails. This issue is fixed in versions 15.111.0 and 16.22.0.

AnalysisAI

Improper authorization in ERPNext's account creation function allows any authenticated low-privilege user to bypass the Account doctype's create permission gate and insert unauthorized chart-of-accounts entries, directly corrupting financial data integrity and audit trails. All ERPNext releases prior to v15.111.0 (v15 branch) and v16.22.0 (v16 branch) are affected, as confirmed by vendor security advisory GHSA-94v6-784v-24q5 and the published PR diff. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires a valid authenticated ERPNext user session at any privilege level - the lowest-privilege role is sufficient (PR:L). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N) yields a 6.5 Medium score, which underrepresents real-world business risk in financial environments. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An authenticated ERPNext user assigned a non-accounting role - such as a sales representative or inventory clerk - crafts a network request to the `add_ac` API endpoint and includes the `ignore_permissions` parameter in the request body. The function strips the permission check and creates the attacker-specified Account master record in the chart of accounts without triggering any authorization error. …
Remediation Upgrade ERPNext to v15.111.0 or later on the v15 branch, or to v16.22.0 or later on the v16 branch; patched releases are available at https://github.com/frappe/erpnext/releases/tag/v15.111.0 and https://github.com/frappe/erpnext/releases/tag/v16.22.0, with fixes delivered across commits 2d0e3fd9af521e407be35fd09e9427176609513f, 37d2adc74ba91f388194b3bbe07368c40573a9b2, and c0cf9aa1a7f95ee22b99ea1ca2a2cb09b314e67f. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
