| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires only that the WP CTA plugin (any version ≤2.2.2) is installed and active on a reachable WordPress site; the vulnerable ajaxCheck() action is registered via wp_ajax_nopriv_, so no account, nonce, or user interaction is needed and it works against default configurations. The concrete prerequisite is the 'fildname' request parameter reaching the unsanitized $wpdb->update() column position. Practical limiting factors: extraction uses time-based blind techniques, which are slow, timing-sensitive (unreliable on high-latency or heavily-loaded servers), and generate many repetitive requests that rate-limiting or WAFs can throttle or detect; impact is confidentiality-only (read/exfiltration), with no direct code execution or data modification indicated. |
| Impact | The CVSS 3.1 base score of 7.5 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N) reflects a network-reachable, no-privilege, no-interaction attack with high confidentiality impact and no integrity/availability impact - consistent with time-based blind data exfiltration. No EPSS score, KEV entry, POC, or SSVC decision data was provided, so real-world exploitation cannot be confirmed from the input. The gap between an easily-reachable unauthenticated SQLi (which historically attracts automated mass-scanning against WordPress) and the absence of any exploitation signal likely reflects that this is a recently disclosed, lower-profile plugin rather than evidence of low risk. Time-based blind extraction is slow and noisy, which slightly raises detection odds and lowers automation efficiency, but the technical impact (theft of admin hashes) is severe. Treat as a real priority for any site running this plugin; deprioritize only where the plugin is absent. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker discovers a WordPress site running WP CTA ≤2.2.2 and sends crafted unauthenticated POST requests to admin-ajax.php invoking ajaxCheck() with a malicious 'fildname' value containing a time-delay SQL payload (e.g. a conditional SLEEP). By observing response timing, they iteratively extract the wp_users table one character at a time, recovering admin password hashes for offline cracking or credential reuse. No POC is published, but the attack needs only an HTTP client and knowledge of the endpoint. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Jul 11, 2026
Unauthenticated SQL injection in the WP CTA (Sticky CTA Builder / Call Now Button) WordPress plugin through version 2.2.2 lets remote attackers extract database contents - including administrator password hashes - via the 'fildname' parameter of the ajaxCheck() AJAX endpoint. Because the handler is registered through wp_ajax_nopriv_ and performs no capability or nonce checks, exploitation requires no login. There is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and it is not listed in CISA KEV, but the flaw is trivially reachable and reported by Wordfence.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patched version is stated in the available data; an upstream fix appears to exist via the WordPress plugin SVN changeset (https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset?reponame=&old=3524743%40easy-sticky-sidebar&new=3524743%40easy-sticky-sidebar) but a released patched tag is not independently confirmed, so update to the latest available version and monitor the Wordfence advisory (https://www.wordfence.com/threat-intel/vulnerabilities/id/7e963601-dc41-4218-9119-708c74e51bc2?source=cve) for a fixed release above 2.2.2. Until a confirmed patch is installed, deactivate and remove the plugin if the sticky-CTA feature is non-essential (fully removes exposure but loses the CTA functionality); if it must stay, place a WAF rule or virtual patch blocking requests to admin-ajax.php that carry the vulnerable action with a 'fildname' parameter, and restrict access to /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php from untrusted networks where feasible (may break other legitimate front-end AJAX). Rotate all WordPress administrator passwords and any reused credentials after patching, since hash theft may already have occurred.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The affected component is a WordPress plugin (CPE vendor 'blendmedia') that exposes an admin-ajax.php action for its sticky call-to-action feature. The root cause is CWE-89 (SQL Injection): the ajaxCheck() method takes a user-supplied column name via the 'fildname' parameter and concatenates it into a $wpdb->update() call without escaping and without using $wpdb->prepare(). Column/identifier names cannot be parameterized by prepare() the same way values can, so developers must whitelist them against a fixed set - this plugin does neither, allowing the identifier position of the query to be manipulated. Combined with registration under wp_ajax_nopriv_ (which makes the action callable by logged-out visitors), the injection is fully pre-authentication.

DescriptionCVE.org
The WP CTA - Sticky CTA Builder, Generate Leads, Promote Sales plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to time-based blind SQL Injection via the 'fildname' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 2.2.2. This is due to insufficient escaping of user-supplied column names in the ajaxCheck() method and lack of preparation in the $wpdb->update() call. The vulnerability is compounded by the complete absence of authorization checks and the endpoint being registered for unauthenticated users via wp_ajax_nopriv_. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary SQL queries and extract sensitive information from the database via time-based blind SQL injection techniques, including administrator password hashes.

Executive ViewAI
The WP CTA WordPress plugin (versions ≤2.2.2) contains an unauthenticated SQL injection vulnerability enabling remote attackers to extract administrator password hashes and sensitive database contents from any WordPress installation running this plugin. No public exploit is currently identified, but the vulnerability is trivially reachable and poses immediate database compromise and credential theft risk. No patch is currently available from the vendor, requiring urgent interim mitigation.
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: (1) Immediately disable or uninstall the plugin; (2) Implement Web Application Firewall rules blocking requests to wp-admin/admin-ajax.php containing 'fildname' parameter injection patterns; (3) Enable real-time database activity monitoring and alerting for suspicious SELECT queries against user credential tables; (4) If business-critical functionality requires the plugin, restrict AJAX endpoint access via IP allowlist; (5) Identify and evaluate patched alternative plugins for equivalent CTA functionality.
