The EMC - Easily Embed Calendly Scheduling Features plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the plugin's calendly shortcode in all versions up to, and including, 4.4 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user supplied attributes. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.
AnalysisAI
Stored cross-site scripting (XSS) in EMC - Easily Embed Calendly Scheduling Features WordPress plugin versions 4.4 and earlier allows authenticated contributors and above to inject arbitrary JavaScript into pages via insufficiently sanitized shortcode attributes, executing malicious scripts whenever site visitors access the affected pages. No public exploit code or active exploitation has been confirmed at analysis time.
Technical ContextAI
The vulnerability resides in the plugin's handling of the calendly shortcode, which accepts user-supplied attributes without proper input sanitization or output escaping. Shortcodes in WordPress are dynamic content placeholders processed server-side and rendered into page HTML; when attributes are not properly escaped before output, attackers can break out of intended HTML context and inject script tags or event handlers. This is a classic stored XSS flaw (CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) where malicious input is persisted in the WordPress database (via post/page content) and executed in the browser context of all subsequent visitors, regardless of their privilege level. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:turn2honey:emc_-_easily_embed_calendly_scheduling indicates the plugin is maintained by Turn2Honey and affects all versions up to 4.4.
RemediationAI
Update the EMC plugin to version 4.5 or later, which includes fixes for input sanitization and output escaping of shortcode attributes (confirmed by WordPress plugin repository changeset 3466576). For sites unable to update immediately, disable the Calendly integration feature or remove the plugin if no longer needed. If the plugin must remain active, restrict contributor-level access to trusted users only and audit all existing pages/posts using the calendly shortcode for injected content; any suspicious shortcode attributes should be removed and the affected pages reviewed for embedded scripts. Monitor for unexpected JavaScript execution or unusual page behavior after the plugin processes shortcode content.
