ChurchCRM is an open-source church management system. Prior to 7.1.0, an SQL injection vulnerability was found in the endpoint /SettingsUser.php in ChurchCRM 7.0.5. Authenticated administrative users can inject arbitrary SQL statements through the type array parameter via the index and thus extract and modify information from the database. This vulnerability is fixed in 7.1.0.
AnalysisAI
SQL injection in ChurchCRM 7.0.5 allows authenticated administrators to execute arbitrary SQL commands through the /SettingsUser.php endpoint's type array parameter. Attackers with high-privilege administrative access can extract sensitive database contents, modify church records, or potentially escalate privileges within the system. Fixed in version 7.1.0. No public exploit identified at time of analysis, with EPSS probability data unavailable for this recent CVE.
Technical ContextAI
ChurchCRM is an open-source PHP-based church management system handling member data, donations, and organizational records. This vulnerability represents a classic CWE-89 SQL injection flaw where user-controlled input from the 'type' array parameter (specifically via its index) is not properly sanitized before inclusion in SQL queries within the SettingsUser.php administrative settings endpoint. The affected product (cpe:2.3:a:churchcrm:crm:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*) processes array indices directly into database queries, allowing attackers to break out of intended query logic and append malicious SQL commands. As a PHP application, this likely involves improper parameterization or string concatenation in database interaction code, enabling second-order injection through array manipulation.
RemediationAI
Immediately upgrade ChurchCRM installations to version 7.1.0 or later, which contains the complete fix for this SQL injection vulnerability. The patch is available through the official ChurchCRM GitHub repository and addresses improper input sanitization in the SettingsUser.php endpoint. Administrators should download version 7.1.0 from the official ChurchCRM release channels and follow standard upgrade procedures documented in project documentation. Review GitHub Security Advisory GHSA-cf68-g7vf-9xrq at https://github.com/ChurchCRM/CRM/security/advisories/GHSA-cf68-g7vf-9xrq for additional vendor guidance. As an interim risk mitigation for environments unable to immediately patch, restrict administrative access to the /SettingsUser.php endpoint through web application firewall rules or web server access controls, and audit administrator account usage for suspicious database queries, though these workarounds do not eliminate the underlying vulnerability and upgrade remains the only complete remediation.
