Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires that a WordPress administrator has already set up a Content Pilot (wp-content-pilot) RSS-type campaign that consumes a feed whose article content the attacker can control, and that the campaign author is an account with the unfiltered_html capability (the default is an Administrator). The specific trigger is the HTML meta description of a remotely-fetched article (WPCP_Readability::parse_meta), which flows through template substitution and html_entity_decode in WPCP_Module::insert_post and is persisted via wp_insert_post with no wp_kses_post sanitization because the plugin switches to the privileged campaign author first. Limiting factors that reduce real-world risk: the attacker cannot act against a default install - the vulnerable path exists only once an admin configures an RSS campaign pointed at an attacker-influenceable source; the payload executes only when a user subsequently visits the generated post; and the attack is absent if the campaign author lacks unfiltered_html. This is why the CVSS carries AC:H despite PR:N.

Impact

This is a genuine but conditional, moderate-severity issue rather than a drop-everything emergency. The signals are mostly consistent: CVSS 3.1 base 5.4 (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N) and vuln.today's 'this_month' decision label both point to meaningful-but-not-critical priority. The AC:H is well-justified by the data - exploitation is not opportunistic against any Internet-facing instance; it requires that a site administrator has already configured a Content Pilot RSS campaign to consume a feed whose content the attacker controls. PR:N is correct in the sense that the person supplying the malicious RSS content needs no WordPress credentials. The stored payload persists with Administrator (unfiltered_html) privileges precisely because the plugin switches the current user to the campaign author before wp_insert_post(), which is the root cause of the missing wp_kses_post sanitization. No EPSS score, no KEV listing, and no PoC reference were provided in the input, so there is no evidence of active exploitation or public exploit code - exploitation status is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' The main gap to flag: real-world risk hinges almost entirely on whether an admin ingests an attacker-controllable feed, a condition the raw CVSS score does not convey, so treat the 5.4 as an upper bound for most deployments.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An administrator configures a Content Pilot RSS campaign pointing at a feed the attacker can influence (for example a feed the attacker publishes, or a legitimate source the attacker can inject into). The attacker places a crafted HTML meta description containing a script payload in a fetched article; the plugin parses it via WPCP_Readability::parse_meta(), passes it through html_entity_decode() in WPCP_Module::insert_post() without wp_kses_post sanitization, and stores it as post_content under an Administrator author. The script then executes in the browser of any visitor who views the auto-generated page. No public exploit code was identified in the provided data.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 31, 2026

Stored cross-site scripting in the Content Pilot - Autoblogging & Affiliate Marketing Suite plugin for WordPress (through 2.2.4) lets an unauthenticated remote party inject scripts into posts generated from a configured RSS campaign, provided the administrator has pointed that campaign at a feed whose article content the attacker can influence and the campaign author holds unfiltered_html (Administrator by default). The malicious value is taken from a remote article's meta description and persisted as post_content without wp_kses_post filtering, then executes when a user views the generated post. No public exploit was identified at time of analysis; the prerequisite of an admin-configured, attacker-influenceable RSS campaign is why the assessed vector carries AC:H despite PR:N, making this a conditional, moderate-severity issue.

RemediationAI

Upgrade the Content Pilot - Autoblogging & Affiliate Marketing Suite plugin to 2.2.5 or later; 2.2.5 is the release referenced by the advisory's corresponding source file, while versions through 2.2.4 remain affected. Validate the fix against the vendor advisory at https://www.wordfence.com/threat-intel/vulnerabilities/id/e3afda72-c10b-46e0-b187-03bcaeb77ea4?source=cve and the 2.2.5 source at https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/wp-content-pilot/tags/2.2.5/includes/class-wpcp-module.php. If upgrading cannot be done immediately, restrict Content Pilot RSS campaigns to feeds from trusted sources that attackers cannot influence (trade-off: limits autoblogging input sources), change the campaign author to a role without unfiltered_html (trade-off: legitimate HTML in imported articles may be stripped or rendered differently), or disable RSS-type campaigns/plugin functionality until patched (trade-off: loss of autoblogging). Review posts generated by RSS campaigns for injected script and remove any suspicious content. The supplied advisory data does not describe additional vendor workarounds.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The flaw is CWE-79 stored XSS in a WordPress autoblogging plugin that ingests RSS/feed content. In WPCP_Readability::parse_meta() the plugin extracts the HTML meta description from a remotely fetched article; WPCP_Module::insert_post() then passes that value through template substitution and html_entity_decode(), switches the current user to the configured campaign author, and calls wp_insert_post() without wp_kses_post(). Because the default campaign author is an Administrator with unfiltered_html, the decoded, attacker-controlled HTML is saved as post_content and rendered on the front end. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:pluginever:content_pilot_-_autoblogging_&_affiliate_marketing_suite:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* identifies the plugin; the advisory bounds affected releases at 2.2.4 and below, and the listed 2.2.5 class-wpcp-module.php source reference is the corresponding file for the next release. Exploitation requires the attacker to control content in a feed that an admin has already configured a campaign to consume; it is not reachable on a default install without that configuration.

DescriptionCVE.org

The Content Pilot - Autoblogging & Affiliate Marketing Suite plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting in versions up to, and including, 2.2.4. This is due to the plugin extracting the HTML meta description from each remotely-fetched article (WPCP_Readability::parse_meta()), piping that value through the article template substitution and html_entity_decode() in WPCP_Module::insert_post(), and then calling wp_insert_post() after switching the current user to the configured campaign author (an Administrator with the unfiltered_html capability by default) - so no wp_kses_post sanitization is applied to the attacker-controlled HTML before it is persisted as post_content and rendered on the front end. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers who control the content of any RSS source an administrator has configured a Content Pilot RSS campaign to consume to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.
