Exploitation Conditions

Requires a valid authenticated account on the UNIT3D tracker (any ordinary registered member; PR:L), reachable over the network with no user interaction. The targeted playlist must be marked private and owned by a different user; exploitation works against default configurations of UNIT3D through 9.2.0 where PlaylistZipController::show lacked an ownership/private check. Limiting factors: the attacker must be logged in, moderators/admins (group->is_modo) legitimately retain access and are not the attack population, and impact is confined to disclosure of private playlist membership and the included torrents - there is no integrity or availability impact and no takeover of other accounts.

Impact

This is a medium-severity information-disclosure issue (vendor CVSS 4.0 base 5.3) whose real-world priority is moderate, not critical. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N) shows network reach with low attack complexity and no user interaction, but PR:L means a valid authenticated member account is required, so this is not pre-auth. Impact is confidentiality-only and rated Low (VC:L, VI:N, VA:N) - it discloses private playlist/torrent membership, not credentials or system control. No EPSS score was provided in the input, so probabilistic exploitation likelihood cannot be quantified here. The CVE is not listed in CISA KEV, so there is no confirmed active exploitation. A public technical writeup (hackmd) and a VulnCheck advisory exist; these are analysis/PoC references and are not verified as working exploit code. The vuln.today Decision label is 'this_month', which is consistent with the medium severity and the fact that a fix is already available - treat this as a scheduled patch item, not an emergency. Signals are largely consistent (medium CVSS, no KEV, moderate decision urgency); the main gap is the absence of an EPSS value to gauge likelihood, and the PoC reference is unverified rather than confirmed working code.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An authenticated member of a UNIT3D-based tracker loops through sequential integer playlist IDs at the /playlist-zips/{playlist} endpoint. Because PlaylistZipController::show did not check ownership or the private flag, the server returns a zip of torrents for playlists belonging to other users, revealing their private collection membership. A public PoC reference exists (hackmd writeup and VulnCheck advisory); it is not verified as working exploit code.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 30, 2026

Authenticated members of a UNIT3D torrent tracker running version 9.2.0 or earlier can download the private playlists of other users by walking sequential playlist IDs at the /playlist-zips/{playlist} endpoint, receiving a zip of every torrent in the targeted collection. The controller action performs no ownership or privacy check, so any ordinary registered account can map private collection membership that the UI is meant to hide, with no user interaction and no integrity or availability impact. Exploitation requires a valid low-privileged account (PR:L); a public technical writeup of the issue exists, and while it is not verified as working exploit code, the attack itself needs only ID enumeration. No CISA KEV entry or confirmed in-the-wild activity was provided, and the vendor has published an upstream fix.

RemediationAI

Apply the upstream fix: pull request https://github.com/HDInnovations/UNIT3D/pull/5622 and commit https://github.com/HDInnovations/UNIT3D/commit/addc2829cefa2d4aad6511bc71311fa5887b9998 add an ownership/privacy guard to PlaylistZipController::show; the vendor marks a patch as available, but a tagged release containing the commit is not confirmed in the supplied data, so verify the changelog before relying on a version number. Until the commit is deployed, the most direct compensating control is to add an equivalent check (deny when the playlist is private, is not owned by the requester, and the requester's group is not moderator/admin) or to remove/disable the /playlist-zips/{playlist} route entirely - with the trade-off that legitimate members lose zip export of their own playlists. Restricting the route to authenticated, trusted groups or placing it behind rate limiting reduces the practicality of sequential-ID enumeration but does not close the authorization gap for insiders. Because the leak is silent and read-only, detection depends on reviewing web server or application logs for sequential or high-volume requests to /playlist-zips/ from a single account. Details are also available in the vendor issue https://github.com/HDInnovations/UNIT3D/issues/5621 and the VulnCheck advisory https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/unit3d-through-9.2.0-private-playlist-disclosure-via-playlist-zip-download.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The flaw is a classic CWE-639 authorization bypass through a user-controlled key, i.e. an insecure direct object reference, in the Laravel application UNIT3D (CPE cpe:2.3:a:hdinnovations:unit3d, all versions through 9.2.0). PlaylistZipController::show receives a Playlist model bound directly from the {playlist} route parameter and streams a generated zip of the playlist's torrents without comparing the playlist's user_id to the authenticated user or checking the is_private flag. Because playlist identifiers are sequential rather than opaque, an ordinary member can iterate IDs and collect private playlists belonging to other accounts; moderators and administrators (group->is_modo) are intended to retain access and are not the attack population. The vendor fix in pull request #5622 (commit addc2829) inserts a guard, abort_if($playlist->is_private && $playlist->user_id !== $user->id && !$user->group->is_modo, 403), ahead of the zip generation so private, non-owned playlists return 403. The published CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N) and the independent CVSS 3.1 assessment (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N) agree the trigger is a straightforward request from a logged-in account; the analyzed sources do not describe any additional precondition beyond the target playlist being private and owned by another user.

DescriptionCVE.org

UNIT3D through 9.2.0 contains a missing authorization vulnerability in PlaylistZipController::show that allows authenticated users to download other members' private playlists. Attackers can enumerate sequential playlist ids at the /playlist-zips/{playlist} endpoint to obtain zips of all torrents, disclosing private collection membership.
