MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated WordPress account at subscriber-level or above (PR:L) on a site running AI ChatBot for WooCommerce - WoowBot ≤5.0.0 that has an administrator-configured paid AI provider API key (OpenAI, Gemini, OpenRouter, or xAI) enabling RAG document sync. The required wp_chatbot nonce is not a meaningful barrier because it is emitted to every authenticated frontend visitor via wp_localize_script. Limiting factors: the attacker must hold a logged-in account (so impact is far higher on stores permitting open customer/subscriber registration than on closed sites), and a paid AI key must actually be configured - without a configured provider key there is no billable action to abuse. No user interaction beyond the attacker's own requests is needed. |
| Impact | This is a genuine-but-moderate priority, not a high-severity emergency. The CVSS vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N, base 4.3) is internally consistent with the description: network-reachable, low complexity, but requiring authentication (PR:L). The only impact is integrity-low (unauthorized triggering of an action); there is no confidentiality or availability loss to the site itself - the actual harm is financial (draining the administrator's prepaid AI API credits at OpenAI/Gemini/OpenRouter/xAI). No EPSS score, KEV listing, or working PoC is present in the supplied data, so exploitation is no public exploit identified at time of analysis. The vuln.today decision label is this_month, consistent with a real-but-not-urgent authenticated authorization flaw. The main risk amplifier is that the required wp_chatbot nonce is emitted to every authenticated frontend visitor via wp_localize_script, so the PR:L barrier is only 'any logged-in subscriber' - low on sites that allow open/customer registration (common for WooCommerce stores). The main risk limiter is that there is no code execution, data theft, or site-availability impact; the worst outcome is monetary cost and possible AI-service disruption. Net: patch this month, prioritize sooner on stores with open customer registration and a configured paid AI key. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | On a WooCommerce store running WoowBot ≤5.0.0 with an admin-configured AI provider key, an attacker registers (or uses) a subscriber-level account, loads any authenticated frontend page to harvest the wp_chatbot nonce leaked via wp_localize_script, and then repeatedly calls the unprotected RAG document-sync endpoint. Each call issues paid embedding API requests billed to the administrator's stored key, draining credits and causing financial loss. No public exploit code is identified in the supplied data, and the low attack complexity (AC:L) plus trivially obtainable nonce make scripted abuse straightforward for any logged-in user. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 28, 2026
Billable AI embedding calls can be triggered repeatedly by any authenticated subscriber on WordPress sites running WoowBot 5.0.0 or earlier, draining the administrator's stored OpenAI, Gemini, OpenRouter, or xAI credits. The only prerequisites are a logged-in account and a configured paid provider key; the wp_chatbot nonce is emitted to every authenticated frontend visitor via wp_localize_script and is not a meaningful barrier. Rated CVSS 4.3 (PR:L, integrity-only impact), no public exploit identified at time of analysis, and the vendor fix is in the 5.0.1 release.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: 5.0.1 - the advisory references the 5.0.1 tagged file includes/class-qcld-bot-rag.php#L816, which is the changed sync handler; upgrade WoowBot to 5.0.1 or later. Because exploitation requires both an authenticated account and an administrator-configured paid AI provider key, sites that cannot update immediately can remove one prerequisite: delete or rotate the stored OpenAI/Gemini/OpenRouter/xAI key (trade-off: RAG sync and chatbot knowledge-base features stop working until a new key is configured) or close open subscriber/customer registration and audit existing subscriber accounts (trade-off: impacts legitimate store signups). Nonce rotation is not an effective workaround because the nonce is deliberately localized to every authenticated visitor. Monitor provider billing for unexpected embedding usage and review logs for repeated calls to the RAG sync endpoint.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The flaw is CWE-862 (Missing Authorization) in the WooCommerce chatbot plugin's RAG sync path. In 5.0.0, includes/class-qcld-bot-rag.php exposes a handler around line 816 that performs document sync and issues paid embedding API calls, but the handler verifies only the wp_chatbot nonce and never checks a capability such as manage_options. That nonce is not a secret: qcld-woowbot.php line 331 passes it to wp_localize_script for every authenticated frontend visitor, so any subscriber can read it and replay the request. The result is not data disclosure (C:N) but unauthorized state change and resource consumption (I:L), billed against the site owner's stored provider key under CVSS AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U.

DescriptionCVE.org
The AI ChatBot for WooCommerce - WoowBot plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to authorization bypass in all versions up to, and including, 5.0.0. This is due to the plugin not properly verifying that a user is authorized to perform an action. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to repeatedly trigger RAG document sync operations that issue paid embedding API calls to OpenAI, Gemini, OpenRouter, or xAI charged to the site administrator's stored API key, draining their AI API credits and causing financial loss. The wp_chatbot nonce required to reach this endpoint is emitted to every authenticated frontend visitor via wp_localize_script, making it trivially obtainable by any subscriber-level account.
