Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires three concurrent conditions, all drawn from the advisory: (1) the attacker must already possess an authenticated REDAXO backend session with sufficient privilege to reach the metainfo_default_fields_create API (PR:H); (2) a valid per-session _csrf_token must be obtained and embedded in the crafted link (the GHSA PoC harvests it from the metainfo/articles page); and (3) an authenticated backend user must open the attacker-crafted link so the reflected payload renders in their session. Strong limiting factors: the mandatory CSRF token tied to a live backend session sharply narrows realistic attack scenarios, HttpOnly cookies prevent direct session-cookie theft (vendor-stated), and no unauthenticated or default-configuration path exists. Affected: REDAXO core before 5.21.0; fixed in 5.21.0.

Impact

All independent signals converge on genuinely low real-world risk. The vendor's CVSS 4.0 base score is 2.1 (Low), and the SSVC decision framework reports Exploitation: none, Automatable: no, Technical Impact: partial - which maps directly to the vuln.today 'monitor' priority rather than any act-now posture. The CVSS vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:H/UI:N) describes a network-reachable but privilege-gated and attack-requirement-constrained flaw: PR:H confirms the attacker must already hold a high-privileged backend session, and AT:P reflects the hard dependency on a valid per-session CSRF token. This is a reflected XSS whose impacts are all Low (VC:L/VI:L/VA:L) with no scope/subsequent-system change (SC:N/SI:N/SA:N). No EPSS score was supplied in the input, and the CVE is not on CISA KEV, so there is no evidence of active or widespread exploitation. A public PoC does exist in the GHSA advisory, but PoC availability is a distinct signal from exploitation and does not raise this to a priority. The one point requiring judgment: the vendor set UI:N while the mechanism (victim must open an attacker-crafted backend link) is classically user-interaction-dependent; this is noted but does not change the low overall rating.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker who already holds an authenticated REDAXO backend session extracts a valid _csrf_token from the metainfo page and crafts a link to the metainfo_default_fields_create API with a malicious HTML/JavaScript payload in the type parameter; the error path reflects that value unescaped through rex_view::message(). When another logged-in backend user opens the crafted link, the script executes in their backend session context. A working PoC helper that builds the exploit URL is published in the GHSA advisory, so the technique is documented publicly.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 28, 2026

Reflected cross-site scripting in REDAXO core before 5.21.0 lets an attacker with an authenticated backend session and metainfo privileges craft a link that injects HTML through the type parameter, which rex_view::message() renders unescaped in a victim's backend session. Exploitation also requires a valid per-session CSRF token and a backend user who opens the crafted link; CVSS 4.0 score is 2.1, SSVC records no exploitation and automatable: no, the vuln.today priority label is monitor, and the independent assessment rates real-world risk low. A public PoC reference exists in the GitHub advisory but is not independently verified as working exploit code; REDAXO 5.21.0 fixes the issue.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: 5.21.0. Upgrade REDAXO core to 5.21.0 or later; for Composer installs, require composer/redaxo/source >=5.21.0. The vendor advisory is https://github.com/redaxo/core/security/advisories/GHSA-m662-8jrj-cw6v and the VulnCheck advisory is https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/redaxo-before-5.21.0-reflected-xss-via-metainfo-api-type-parameter. No workaround is documented in the available sources; applying the 5.21.0 fix is the complete remediation stated by the vendor. Exploitation requires an authenticated backend session with metainfo access plus a valid CSRF token, and the issue is limited to reflected execution in a backend user's session.

Technical ContextAI · show details

CWE-79 reflected XSS in REDAXO's PHP backend. The metainfo_default_fields_create API reads the GET parameter type and concatenates it into a rex_api_exception message: sprintf('metainfo type "%s" does not have default field.', $type). That message reaches rex_view::error() and then rex_view::message(), which returns it inside HTML without escaping, so an HTML payload such as an svg/onload sequence executes in the backend origin. The advisory confirms the source is the GET type parameter, propagation is through the exception message, and the sink is the unescaped view renderer. Prerequisites are an authenticated backend session with access to the metainfo API and a valid per-session CSRF token; the affected deployment mode is the REDAXO backend, not the front end. The affected package is composer/redaxo/source <5.21.0, and EUVD lists core 0 <5.21.0. A public PoC reference (Python script) is included in GHSA-m662-8jrj-cw6v; it is not independently verified as working exploit code.

DescriptionCVE.org

REDAXO before 5.21.0 contains a reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability that allows authenticated attackers to inject scripts via the type parameter of the metainfo_default_fields_create API. Attackers can craft a link with a valid CSRF token and HTML payload that rex_view::message() renders unescaped, executing scripts in a victim's backend session.
