MITRE ATT&CK
2 techniques across 2 tactics: Initial Access, Execution The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires a privileged CustomerAdministration (KundenManager) user - one with employee-search and password-management rights - to be actively logged into the VertiGIS WebOrderSystem portal AND to open an attacker-supplied link whose 'searchValue' URL parameter carries script code. The attacker needs no account but must know the portal URL structure and must deliver the link to, and get interaction from, a privileged victim (UI:A). Limiting factors: no exploitation is possible without an authenticated privileged session on the victim side, user interaction (clicking the link) is mandatory, and only confirmed-affected version 7.0.8.6 is established - other versions are unverified by the vendor. |
| Impact | The input assigns a CVSS 4.0 base score of 5.1 (medium) with vector AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:N/VI:N/VA:N/SC:L/SI:L/SA:N, and the vuln.today decision label is 'this_month' rather than act_now/emergency, which points to a real but non-urgent priority. The vector is network-reachable with low complexity and no attacker privileges (PR:N), but it is gated by active user interaction (UI:A): exploitation only succeeds if a privileged portal user who is already logged in opens the attacker's crafted link. This is a classic reflected-XSS risk profile - low direct impact on the vulnerable system (VC:N/VI:N/VA:N) but low subsequent-system confidentiality/integrity impact (SC:L/SI:L) reflecting code execution in the victim's authenticated browser context. The CVE is NOT listed in CISA KEV, so there is no confirmed active exploitation. No EPSS score is provided in the input, so probabilistic exploitation likelihood cannot be stated. The input does not carry a confirmed PoC flag, though a SEC Consult research advisory reference (r.sec-consult.com) is present and the description itself discloses the exact vulnerable parameter and URL-based trigger, which materially lowers the bar for reproduction. The impact ceiling is higher than the base score alone suggests because the advisory notes administrative users can change other users' passwords (including other admins) without the old password - so a successful XSS in an admin session can escalate to full account takeover or lockout. Net assessment: a medium-severity, interaction-dependent issue whose real-world risk is constrained by the need to phish an authenticated privileged user, but whose consequences on success are severe. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who knows the KundenManager portal URL structure crafts a link embedding JavaScript in the 'searchValue' parameter and sends it (e.g., via phishing) to a portal administrator. When that administrator - already logged into the CustomerAdministration portal - opens the link, the script executes in their authenticated session and can abuse the password-change function to reset other users' credentials. No confirmed working exploit code is flagged in the input, but a public SEC Consult advisory reference exists and the description fully discloses the trigger. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 23, 2026
Reflected cross-site scripting in the VertiGIS WebOrderSystem CustomerAdministration (KundenManager) portal allows an unauthenticated attacker to run JavaScript in a privileged user's browser by delivering a crafted URL whose searchValue parameter contains script code. The victim must be logged into the portal and open the link; because such users can change other accounts' passwords, including administrators', without the old password, successful exploitation can lead to account takeover or lockout. Version 7.0.8.6 is confirmed affected (the latest at time of testing) and the vendor has not stated which other versions are affected; no public exploit was identified at time of analysis and the priority is this_month (medium, CVSS 4.0 5.1).
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch or fixed version is identified in the available data; version 7.0.8.6, the latest at time of testing, is affected, so operators should track the advisory at https://r.sec-consult.com/vertigis for a vendor update. Until a patch is available, specific compensating controls for the reflected searchValue parameter are: server-side validation and output encoding of searchValue before it is reflected into the page; a WAF rule that blocks script payloads in searchValue (trade-off: possible false positives on legitimate search strings); a Content-Security-Policy on the portal that disallows inline and untrusted script (trade-off: may break existing inline scripts); and restricting network access to the CustomerAdministration portal to trusted networks or VPN (trade-off: reduces legitimate remote administrative access). Advise privileged users not to open unsolicited links to the portal while logged in.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The flaw is a reflected cross-site scripting issue (CWE-79) in the employee-search function of the CustomerAdministration portal, where the searchValue URL parameter is reflected into the response and executed as JavaScript in the victim's browser. The CVSS 4.0 vector AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:N/VI:N/VA:N/SC:L/SI:L/SA:N reflects network reachability, no attacker privileges, mandatory user interaction, and a scope change: code runs with the privileges of the victim's authenticated portal session, giving limited confidentiality and integrity impact to other components. The independent CVSS 3.1 assessment (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N) is consistent. The attack surface is the web portal identified by CPE cpe:2.3:a:vertigis_ltd.:webordersystem_(kundenmanager); the trigger is a crafted link opened by a logged-in privileged user, and the sources do not describe any further technical preconditions for the reflection.

Reflected XSS via a URL parameter needs no attacker privileges (PR:N) but a privileged victim must click the link (UI:R); script runs in a different security context, so scope changes (S:C) with low C/I impact.

DescriptionCVE.org
The CustomerAdministration portal (KundenManager) of VertiGIS WebOrderSystem allows privileged users to search for employees across all defined companies (user groups). The search term can be passed in the "searchValue" URL parameter, so the search is performed when a logged-in user opens such a URL. JavaScript code placed in this parameter is executed in the victim's browser. An unauthenticated attacker who knows the URL structure can craft a link that contains script code. The code runs if a privileged user who is currently logged into the portal opens the link. Because administrative users can change the passwords of other users, including administrators, without entering the old password, an attacker may be able to take over accounts or lock out other users. Version 7.0.8.6, the latest available at the time of testing, is affected. The vendor did not provide information about further affected versions.
