MITRE ATT&CK
2 techniques across 2 tactics: Initial Access, Persistence The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires reaching the files.php script of the File Management component and supplying attacker-controlled input in the fid or id parameter, which is injected into a SQL query without sanitization. No special configuration, authentication, or user interaction is required (PR:N/UI:N/AC:L), so default deployments reachable over the network are exploitable. The primary limiting factors are not technical but environmental: the application must be network-accessible to the attacker, and because the product is an obscure rolling-release project with no versioned releases, realistic exposure depends entirely on whether an instance is deployed and internet-facing - the Low impact ratings also cap the damage to limited data disclosure/modification rather than full host or database takeover. |
| Impact | This is a medium-severity SQL injection (CWE-89) in oretnom23's file-management-system-php, with a CVSS 4.0 base score of 6.9. The vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N) describes a remotely reachable, low-complexity, unauthenticated flaw, which normally signals high exploitability; however, the vulnerable-system impacts are all rated Low (VC:L/VI:L/VA:L) and there is no subsequent-system impact (SC:N/SI:N/SA:N), which is what holds the score at medium rather than critical. The E:P threat metric and the 'exploit is now public' statement confirm proof-of-concept exploit code exists, but this is NOT the same as active exploitation: the CVE is not listed in CISA KEV and no EPSS score was provided, so the real-world exploitation probability cannot be quantified from the input. The signals are internally consistent (network vector in CVSS matches 'initiate the attack remotely' in the description), so there is no conflict to flag - the main caveat is that the Low impact ratings suggest the injection yields limited data access/manipulation rather than full database compromise, and real priority is tempered heavily by the product's likely tiny deployment footprint. Net: a genuine, publicly-exploitable unauthenticated SQLi, but low practical priority for most organizations because the affected software is an obscure hobby/tutorial-grade project rather than widely-deployed enterprise software. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A remote, unauthenticated attacker sends a crafted request to files.php with a malicious value in the fid or id parameter, injecting SQL that the File Management component executes against the backend database. Public proof-of-concept exploit code exists (referenced via the project's GitHub issue tracker), lowering the barrier to opportunistic exploitation. Because no authentication or user interaction is required (PR:N/UI:N) and complexity is low (AC:L), the attacker can read or tamper with limited database contents directly. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 21, 2026
SQL injection in oretnom23's file-management-system-php allows unauthenticated remote attackers to inject arbitrary SQL through the fid and id parameters of files.php, letting them read or tamper with the data the File Management component stores. Publicly available exploit code exists and the CVSS 4.0 vector carries an E:P (proof-of-concept) metric against a 6.9 base score; the issue is not in CISA KEV, and the vendor was notified via an issue report but has not responded. Impact is bounded to limited confidentiality, integrity and availability loss (C:L/I:L/A:L) rather than full database or host takeover, and because the project ships as a rolling release no version-specific fix has been published.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis: issue #6 (https://github.com/oretnom23/file-management-system-php/issues/6) has been filed but the maintainer has not responded, and the rolling-release model means there is no fixed version to upgrade to. The durable code-level fix is to rewrite the fid/id handling in files.php using prepared statements with bound parameters (PDO or mysqli in PHP), or at minimum to cast both parameters to integers and reject anything non-numeric before the query is built - the trade-off is that a strict integer cast will break any legitimate callers that pass non-numeric identifiers. Until then, put the application behind a reverse proxy or WAF rule set that rejects SQL metacharacters and known injection patterns on files.php, and restrict access to the instance itself via VPN, IP allow-listing or network segmentation so only trusted clients can reach it; this stops remote abuse but not an attacker who already has a foothold on the permitted network. If the File Management feature is not needed, remove or disable files.php entirely, which eliminates the exposure at the cost of losing that functionality. Also give the application's database account least privilege (no FILE, no DDL, no cross-schema reads) so a successful injection cannot be escalated into file writes or broad data extraction, and review database logs for anomalous queries against the tables referenced by files.php to detect prior exploitation attempts.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The target is a PHP web application (oretnom23/file-management-system-php) whose File Management component handles uploaded/registered files through the script files.php. The fid and id request parameters are concatenated into a SQL statement without sanitization or parameter binding, the classic CWE-89 root cause: attacker-supplied text becomes executable SQL grammar rather than inert data, so an attacker can alter predicate logic, UNION data from other tables, or use time/boolean inference. The CPE entry is a wildcard (cpe:2.3:a:oretnom23:file-management-system-php:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*), reflecting the project's rolling-release model - there are no tagged versions, so every deployment tracking the repository up to commit 2e3c1ebe60f121e8df4fb3f544f0e9591d9a01e4 (and any later build that has not yet changed files.php) is potentially affected. No special configuration, session, or user interaction is needed to reach the vulnerable code path; the only prerequisites are network reachability of the PHP application and a request to files.php with a crafted fid or id value.

A vulnerability was detected in oretnom23 file-management-system-php up to 2e3c1ebe60f121e8df4fb3f544f0e9591d9a01e4. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the file files.php of the component File Management. Performing a manipulation of the argument fid/id results in sql injection. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. The exploit is now public and may be used. This product is using a rolling release to provide continious delivery. Therefore, no version details for affected nor updated releases are available. The project was informed of the problem early through an issue report but has not responded yet.
