MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Requires a valid authenticated account of at least subscriber level on a site running SmartyParcel before 1.23.4; exposure is greatest where open user self-registration is enabled (common on e-commerce stores), since an attacker can then provision their own low-privilege account. No other special configuration, feature toggle, or admin privilege is needed, and no victim interaction is required. Limiting factors: the PR:L requirement means fully anonymous exploitation is not possible, and impact is confined to deletion of shipping-label and tracking records (integrity loss), with no data disclosure or site takeover. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but moderate-priority issue, best characterized as a low-privilege broken-access-control flaw rather than a critical threat. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N, base 4.3) is internally consistent with the description: network-reachable, low complexity, no user interaction, but requiring an authenticated account (PR:L - e.g. a subscriber) and yielding only a limited integrity impact (C:N/A:N, I:L) via unauthorized deletion of shipping-label and tracking records. Publicly available exploit code exists (WPScan), which raises real-world likelihood, but there is no CISA KEV listing and no EPSS score was supplied, so there is no evidence of active or widespread exploitation - treat the POC as a capability signal, not proof of attacks in the wild. No SSVC decision data was provided. The practical risk is bounded by two factors: an attacker needs a valid low-privilege account (so exposure is highest on stores allowing open user registration, such as WooCommerce-style shops), and the damage is destructive-but-limited (record deletion), with no data disclosure or full site compromise. Net: patch promptly on affected stores, especially those with open registration, but this does not rise to emergency severity. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker registers or uses an existing low-privilege subscriber account on a WordPress store running SmartyParcel before 1.23.4, then issues the plugin's label-deletion request referencing order IDs they do not own. Because no authorization check is performed, the request succeeds and wipes shipping-label and tracking records for arbitrary orders store-wide, disrupting fulfillment operations. Public exploit code is available via WPScan, lowering the skill needed to reproduce this. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 21, 2026
Missing authorization checks in the SmartyParcel WordPress plugin before version 1.23.4 let any authenticated user - including a default subscriber - delete shipping label and tracking records belonging to arbitrary orders across the entire store. Because the vulnerable code path performs no capability or ownership validation, an attacker only needs a valid low-privilege account, which is trivially self-provisioned on stores that leave WordPress user registration open. Publicly available exploit code exists, and the impact is confined to integrity loss (records deleted, no data disclosure or site takeover), consistent with the CVSS 4.3 score (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N); no confirmed active exploitation (CISA KEV) has been reported.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: SmartyParcel 1.23.4. Upgrade the plugin to 1.23.4 or later from the WordPress.org plugin repository or the vendor's distribution channel, and verify the installed version under Plugins in wp-admin after updating (see https://wpscan.com/vulnerability/64fd7acb-2376-45a5-9fe7-9eea12ec7920/). Where the update cannot be applied immediately, compensating controls with known trade-offs are: disable open user self-registration (Settings > General > Membership) and remove or demote unused subscriber accounts, which closes the easiest path to a low-privilege foothold but may disrupt legitimate customer account creation on the store; deactivate the SmartyParcel plugin entirely until patched, which removes the risk at the cost of losing label generation and tracking functionality; and, as a detective measure, review order notes, audit logs, and shipping/tracking records for unexplained deletions. Note that role-hardening or nonce changes alone will not fix the missing capability check - only the patched release does.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The flaw is a classic CWE-862 Missing Authorization defect in a WordPress plugin. WordPress enforces privilege through capability checks (current_user_can()) and, for state-changing requests, nonce verification; here the handler responsible for deleting shipping-label records apparently omits the ownership and capability validation that should restrict the action to shop managers or administrators. As a result the endpoint is reachable by any logged-in user with a valid session cookie and nonce, regardless of role, and the deletion is applied store-wide rather than scoped to the acting user's own records. The CPE string supplied (cpe:2.3:a:unknown:smartyparcel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*) is malformed with an unassigned vendor token and no version bounds, so the authoritative version range comes from the EUVD entry listing SmartyParcel from 0 up to (but excluding) 1.23.4. Although community tags label this an 'Authentication Bypass', the assessment is more accurately broken access control: authentication is still required, but authorization is absent.
