Vulnerability Assessment

Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation targets the OIDC (OpenID Connect) component of Helidon and requires the attacker to be network-adjacent over HTTP with no authentication (PR:N), but it is gated by two concrete limiting factors: high attack complexity (AC:H), meaning the attacker must win specific conditions or timing outside their direct control, and mandatory interaction from a human victim other than the attacker (UI:R) - typically luring a legitimate user to act on a crafted OIDC request/response during an authentication flow. The scope change (S:C) means impact can extend to products integrated with the affected Helidon service. Realistic risk is therefore constrained to deployments using Helidon's OIDC security feature and to scenarios where an attacker can reliably induce victim interaction; it is not exploitable against a default, unused-OIDC configuration without user involvement.

Impact

This is a moderate-severity issue (CVSS 3.1 base 6.9) that should be prioritized as standard patch-cycle work rather than an emergency. The CVSS vector (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N) shows a mixed risk profile: it is network-reachable and unauthenticated (AV:N, PR:N), which raises exposure, but two strong mitigating factors pull real-world risk down - high attack complexity (AC:H) and required user interaction from a person other than the attacker (UI:R). The scope change (S:C) and high confidentiality impact (C:H) are the main severity drivers, with only low integrity impact (I:L) and no availability impact (A:N). No EPSS score, KEV listing, or POC was provided in the input, so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no evidence of active exploitation. The 'Authentication Bypass' tag is not clearly substantiated by the description, which emphasizes confidentiality/integrity data access in the OIDC component via a user-interaction-driven flow rather than an explicit authentication bypass - treat that tag with caution and verify against the Oracle CPU advisory. Overall: a real but not urgent issue; the AC:H and UI:R requirements make broad, automated exploitation unlikely, favoring targeted scenarios.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker crafts a malicious HTTP request or link targeting the OIDC authentication flow of a Helidon-based application and lures a legitimate user into interacting with it. Because of the scope change, a successful attack can leak sensitive data and make limited unauthorized modifications affecting not just Helidon but additional downstream products relying on it. Exploitation is rated difficult (AC:H) and depends on winning the required user-interaction condition; no public exploit code is known.

Alert me

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 21, 2026

Unauthenticated network attackers can exploit Helidon's OIDC component to read critical data and make limited unauthorized data changes, but only when high-complexity conditions are met and a victim is induced to interact during an authentication flow (CVSS 3.1 base 6.9). Affected releases are Helidon 4.0.0 through 4.5.5 and 27.0.0; the scope change means products integrated with the affected Helidon service may also be impacted. No public exploit identified at time of analysis and no CISA KEV entry is present; Oracle's October 2026 Critical Patch Update is the vendor patch reference.

RemediationAI

Patch status: Patch available per vendor advisory. Apply the Oracle October 2026 Critical Patch Update referenced at https://www.oracle.com/security-alerts/cpuoct2026.html; the exact patched Helidon version is not specified in the provided data, so confirm the fixed release in the advisory before upgrading. If OIDC cannot be patched immediately, disable Helidon's OIDC security provider when it is not required (side effect: OIDC-based single sign-on and login flows stop working), and restrict network access to OIDC endpoints to trusted proxies or internal networks (side effect: may block legitimate external identity providers or remote users). Because UI:R is a prerequisite, user-awareness controls that block unsolicited OIDC redirect or login prompts reduce exposure but do not replace patching, and OIDC authentication logs should be monitored for anomalous flows while remediation is pending.

Technical ContextAI · show details

Helidon is Oracle's Java framework for microservices, and the affected OIDC component implements OpenID Connect authentication flows such as redirects, token handling, and session establishment. The supplied CVSS vector AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N describes a network-reachable authentication-bypass-style weakness that does not require attacker credentials but does require high attack complexity and interaction from a human victim other than the attacker during an OIDC flow; the scope change indicates impact can extend to relying or integrated products. No CWE identifier is provided in the input, so the root-cause class is not formally categorized, but the vendor tag 'Authentication Bypass' is consistent with the OIDC component and the confidentiality-heavy impact. No CPE strings were supplied, so affected-product identification relies on the Oracle advisory ranges and the EUVD affected-version list.

DescriptionNVD

Vulnerability in the Helidon product of Oracle Fusion Middleware (component: OIDC). Supported versions that are affected are 4.0.0-4.5.5 and 27.0.0. Difficult to exploit vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to compromise Helidon. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Helidon, attacks may significantly impact additional products (scope change). Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Helidon accessible data as well as unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Helidon accessible data. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 6.9 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N).
