Exploitation Conditions

Requires an authenticated Teable session (any valid user account, membership in at least one base) plus knowledge of a valid folderId belonging to a base in which the attacker has no membership - the vulnerable path is PATCH /api/base/:baseId/node/folder/:folderId, which checks the base|update permission only against the URL baseId rather than against the base that owns the supplied folderId. Limiting factors: exploitation is authenticated (not anonymous), depends on the attacker discovering or guessing a non-enumerable foreign folderId (reflected as AT:P in the CVSS 4.0 vector), and yields only folder-rename (low integrity) impact with no data read or deletion; multi-tenant/shared Teable instances are most exposed, while isolated single-tenant deployments have little practical exposure.

Impact

This is a low-severity authorization bypass (IDOR / CWE-639) that the vendor-supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N) scores at 2.3. The signals are internally consistent and all point to limited real-world risk: network reachable (AV:N) and low complexity (AC:L), but it requires an authenticated account (PR:L), a specific attack requirement (AT:P, i.e. possession of a valid foreign folderId), and the only impact is low integrity (VI:L) - an attacker can rename folders in bases where they lack membership, but cannot read data (VC:N) or affect availability (VA:N). No EPSS score, KEV listing, or public POC was provided, so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no evidence of active exploitation. This is a genuine access-control defect worth patching, but it is a low-priority, limited-impact issue rather than a widespread exploitation threat - the integrity impact is confined to folder renaming (metadata tampering), not data disclosure or code execution. The one caveat: the tenant-isolation nature of the flaw means it matters more in multi-tenant SaaS deployments of Teable than in single-org self-hosted instances, so prioritization should be weighted by deployment model.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An authenticated Teable user who belongs to one base obtains or enumerates a folderId belonging to a different base they are not a member of, then sends a PATCH /api/base/:baseId/node/folder/:folderId request. Because the server authorizes base|update only against the URL baseId and not against the base that actually owns the folderId, the rename succeeds, letting the attacker tamper with the folder structure of a base they should not be able to modify. No public exploit code is known, but the attack is trivial to script for any logged-in user who can discover a foreign folderId.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 18, 2026

Authenticated users of Teable can rename folders that belong to bases they have no membership in by submitting a folderId from a foreign base to the PATCH /api/base/:baseId/node/folder/:folderId endpoint, which validates the base|update permission only against the baseId in the URL rather than against the base that actually owns the folder. The flaw is an IDOR / authorization bypass (CWE-639) affecting releases prior to release.2026-10-12T12-45-53Z.3331; the vendor-supplied CVSS 4.0 vector scores it 2.3 and our independent CVSS 3.1 assessment scores it AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N, reflecting integrity-only impact with no data disclosure or destruction. Exploitation requires a valid Teable session plus discovery of a non-enumerable foreign folderId, so multi-tenant or shared deployments carry the most practical exposure; no public exploit code was identified at time of analysis and there is no confirmed active exploitation (not in CISA KEV).

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: upgrade Teable to release.2026-10-12T12-45-53Z.3331 or later (fix commit 3c1c4646bfddfb14b1f2fbab8d0e1189969fa304, documented in advisory GHSA-5qj3-rq3x-q739), which scopes the base|update check to the base that owns the supplied folderId rather than only the URL baseId; because that release also bumps the Node.js runtime to 24.19.0 and migrates the build from webpack to rspack, validate container images and CI pipelines before promoting it. Where an immediate upgrade is not possible, compensating controls are: enforce strict tenant isolation by running separate Teable instances per trust boundary (effective but operationally costly for shared workspaces), restrict/post-filter client access to PATCH /api/base/*/node/folder/:folderId at a reverse proxy or API gateway for untrusted user populations (breaks legitimate folder renaming for everyone outside the allowlist), and monitor or alert on folder-rename events whose target base differs from the asserting session's memberships - a detective control that does not prevent the write but shortens dwell time. Reduce the attack surface for the ID-knowledge prerequisite by auditing any API or export surface that leaks node/folder IDs across bases, and rotate/scope sessions for multi-tenant deployments. Hosted Teable Cloud users should confirm with the vendor that the fix has been deployed to their instance; self-hosters should track the GitHub releases page.

Technical ContextAI · show details

Teable is an open-source, Airtable-style database/workspace platform whose backend is a NestJS (Node.js/TypeScript) application backed by Prisma; bases contain a tree of "nodes" (tables, views, folders) addressed by opaque IDs. The vulnerable logic lives in apps/nestjs-backend/src/features/base-node/folder/base-node-folder.service.ts (lines ~39-67 in the pre-fix release), where the folder rename handler authorizes the request by checking base|update against the :baseId path parameter and then operates on the client-supplied :folderId without verifying that the folder is a descendant of that base. This is the classic CWE-639 (Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key) pattern: a trusted-but-user-controlled identifier is used to select the object acted upon while the authorization decision is made against a different, attacker-chosen scope. Because the rename mutates record state only (VI:L) with no read-back (VC:N) and no deletion (VA:N), impact is confined to namespace/metadata tampering within a victim tenant. The exploitability prerequisite of knowing a foreign folderId - IDs are not enumerable through the API surface available to the attacker - is what the CVSS 4.0 vector expresses as AT:P. Note that the referenced upstream commit 3c1c4646bfddfb14b1f2fbab8d0e1189969fa304 is a broad release commit (bundling Node.js runtime bumps 22.22.3 → 24.19.0, a webpack → rspack build migration, and ShareDB snapshot changes), so the authorization correction is one component of a large changeset rather than an isolated patch commit.

DescriptionCVE.org

Teable before 2026-10-12T12-45-53Z.3331 contains an authorization bypass vulnerability that allows authenticated users to rename folders in other bases by supplying a foreign folderId. The PATCH /api/base/:baseId/node/folder/:folderId endpoint checks base|update only against the URL baseId, so attackers can rename folders in bases where they lack membership.
